I know! They most definitely can play them too! Russell can still sing the older stuff really well. I feel like they don't play anything pre-Paradise Lost live anymore, with the exception of "Evolution (The Grand Design)" and "Sea of Lies", and recently "The Odyssey". It makes zero sense to me as to why they don't play more of the older stuff live, because it's not like they can't.

Am I the only one that miss both Russell's vocals and the songs from that period? I mean, I love listening to all albums up to the Odissey. Paradise Lost has its moments, but from Iconoclast and Underworld... I don't know, feels like another band... I really wish they could go back to their roots both on studio and on live shows... I really miss Russell's more soft voice and the symphonic melodies of songs like the accolade, divine wings and others from back in day...

@@hammadounissabre7018 I personally feel like they lost something after V which is their peak and magnum opus. My second fave era after that is probably Damnation Game and Divine Wings. Divine Wings title track is just THE BEST. But all their old stuff is insanely good even the debut album. They put every album art in the letters of their logo on their new tour announcement so me and my bandmate who write Symphony X influenced music (moreso on his end of the contributions) are PRAYING they make this set include stuff from the entire discog and that that was a clue cos we plan on going to the upcoming show. They played Divine Wings title track which they NEVER do anymore at a past Progpower that I wanted to go to but didn't have the money for AAAAAAGH lol

Years after stumbling upon it, it is probably still my favourite Symphony X live video. Back when they still picked great setlists (before Iconoclast & Underworld), and lots of good impro from Russell and Pinella (who was still allowed to contribute back then). Thank you so much for uploading this, Demetrius! Through the Looking Glass, Candlelight Fantasia (even though only teased it), Divine Wings & Accolade were absolutely fantastic!

@@meshzzizkman, I was hard back then - but my point was, that he barely gets to play lead melodies on piano, “strings”, “flute” patches etc. like 95-02. Now it’s mainly riff-riff-riff with the keyboard providing string chords in the background. I miss the keyboard melodies like When All Is Lost (intro), Accolade, Edge Of Forever, Fallen etc.

@@Metalton95 same man, now it's all about the heaviness, Russell also can't seem to just dial back the grit in his voice for something nice like Candlelight Fantasia, but they also can't seem to write one of those anymore. I kinda loathe latter era SX, it's candy at first but it's very one dimensional after a while. I wish they would get the early records remixed for a more updated sound (same way Blind Guardian did); also, why no live album? Last one they released was 22 years ago ffs... they are so tight live, it's gonna be a shame not having any professional live footage once of them they become really old.

Symphony X didn't start performing live until 98. Before then they were a studio only band. They were signed to a small Japanese record label that couldn't do much for them. If I remember correctly their first live show was Osaka.
