A lot of hate in the comments. In my opinion, this song is catchy as hell, heavy as hell, and all around a fantastic song. I've been listening to Symphony X for about 12 years and I know it's not like their old stuff, and that's what I like about it. If I wanted to listen to something that sounded like Symphony X's old material, I would go listen to Symphony X's old material. The fact is that they are able to gracefully evolve their sound without compromising the overall integrity of their music, unlike bands such as Dream Theater, for example, whose recent few albums are so bad in my opinion that I almost try to forget they exist just so I can continue to like the band overall. DT's fantastic musicianship just doesn't cover for the lackluster songwriting (not to mention Labrie's ever failing voice). Symphony X, on the other hand, still has amazing musicianship and strong songwriting in spades, and I'm excited to continue to watch their music evolve over the coming years. I love this band.

Finally, I can have my Symphony X fix, even though they are not the same since they started their blast with The Divine Wings of Tragedy. The raw power and aggressiveness are there. Sir Allen makes use of various facets of his voice, not just his growling-dio-esque from last album. Pretty good. And there are references from old style Symphony X for those who pay attention.

I'll give credit where credit is due in regards to their older, more original work. But the idea they've withheld about constantly changing their sound is a feat few bands dare to attempt. Had they continued on the same path from day one, no doubt it would get repetitive. Look at Disturbed: they've changed almost nothing in their sound. Many say "Once you've heard one song, you've heard them all." I dont want that for Symphony X. I've got loads of respect for their newest work. Its more Thrash metal-esque, but they've put their own spin on it. It still holds it's own unique sound. I for one hope they continue to move forward and put out music like this.

Well, this was a surprise! Been waiting for a new Symphony X album and so far, this song sounds worth the wait. I really dig Russell Allen's vocals here, the way he shifts from heavier to more clean singing. Looking forward to the rest of it. By the way, those complaining about Iconoclast, not every album is going to appeal to every fan. It took me some time to warm up to it, unlike how much I instantly fell in love with V: The New Mythology Suite and The Odyssey. And frankly, an okay Symphony X album is still lightyears better than the pop/emo/EDM sludge cluttering the airwaves. Besides, I respect a band willing to try something different, even if it doesn't always work. Poetry for the Poisoned anyone, lol.

To those of you complaining...get off your high horse. Bands change and evolve. I personally like it when bands do things differently. If you like music that always sounds the same or like bands that just do the same things over and over again then you're just cheating yourself. This is a great song! Keep in mind also, there are 10 other songs on the album. The bassist says it does have some of the older elements from albums like "Paradise Lost" and "The Odyssey". Don't judge the whole album after hearing only one song....

I came here just to check out how many people are upset that a band has released different sounding albums and they aren't all clones of their earlier ones. You guys didn't disappoint. I love V, The Odyssey, Divine Wings of Tragedy, etc. as much as anyone else. Give me a break though. If you want to hear those albums just listen to those albums. The guitar parts are still ridiculous, it's a bit heavier (thankfully Romeo is engineering his guitar tracks better these days), the vocals are great. What's not to like? If you want more classical influenced stuff, I'll repeat myself, just go back and listen to those albums.

Just got this CD. Symphony X, is a breath of fresh air. It so nice to hear music, tailored to the true music listener. Instead of 12 year old girls. Michael Romeo, is playing guitar better than ever. Great imagination, great songs. Russell Allen is simply fantastic. I am a Symphony X fan for life. Thank you for the amazing new CD. And a companion DVD would be even better.

Quite enjoy it! What matters most to this Symphony X fan is not to doubt/praise- but to enjoy! Being a Symphony X fan is hard enough with new releases every five years. Enjoy the majesty, critic to your hearts content- but remember this Symphony X are back and that makes everything good!!!

Slightly different from what I expected... First and foremost: The similarity to "The Mob Rules" during the vocal verses annoys the F* out of me. Adrenaline Mob covered this song and Dio is the greatest inspiration for Russell, so it's kind of ugly to compose something so similar. Now to the song as a whole: I wanted more exploration on Allen's range and keyboard highlights. The riffs and drums blast throughout the song and the vocal kind of holds it back in the middle of the chaos... this combination is bizarre! Not in a bad way, just different. But it tires my ears pretty fast. I know that's just one song and Romeo said the album was composed to be listened to from start to finish, having its different moments, so we'll have to wait and see if this isolated piece fits better into the whole. It's still Symphony X at the core, but as a big fan of the band I hope the rest of the album delivers more.

Yeah, I was a bit overreacting haha, but I think When All is Lost, Iconoclast and Reign in Madness are probably the most progressive, also Prometheus has great proggy stuff. There's some prog in each song but it's just not as much as I'm used to from Sym X.

Moonsorrow Iconoclast was mediocre album and receievd 7.0-8.0 ratings lol. Paradise Lost was received much better. It has nothing to do with neoclassical sound, it is about this mediocre song.

kordax mint I'd disagree. Both were equally great albums. I remember when Paradise Lost first came out and everyone was complaining that it was "not Symphony X" and was "shit." I find it ironic that those same people are now the ones praising it.

kordax mint Wtf are you talking about? Critics are not what matters, it's what the fans say. Many fans hated Paradise Lost. I remember arguing with tens of those idiots on forums 8 years ago. Metalsucks tells me Sorrow and Extinction is a 10/10. Listeners tell me it's a 5/10. I'll agree with the listeners.

I really like Symphony X, but I feel the latter albums are sounding more and more uninspired. This song could've been on the Iconoclast album. I'll get the album for sure, but I hope it's not 60 minutes of *this*.

GuitarGodsUnite Yeah, I know. Vocals are a throw back to the earlier records, which I'm very happy about. But the riffs, oh man, I prefer what they did before. V: The New Mythology Suite was perfect in that regard.

One thing I've noticed, is how the synths/pads is not playing over the riff in the beginning of the song, but at the ending the synths plays. It this the transition into a epic sound inspired by older Symphony X? This may be just the hype single, and the real adventure awaits.
