The vertical pocket needed to be on the opposite side! You cannot design a bag to have a right-handed side handle and a left-handed swing around pocket. Tortuga did something similar with their newer packs, but on opposite sides, reason why I had to pass. This is a very 'simple' concept that bag designers should keep in mind. Companies like Evergoods have this concept very clear.

Preach! I actually favor left side swing around, but regardless of preference, the side access features all need to be oriented the same way. Everything needs to be facing up for access when my bag is on the luggage handle.

This was an acceptable trade off to me, and I have now been using this bag for a few weeks. For access without taking bag off (swing around) my priorities are the quick access pocket + water bottle access. When using the luggage pass-thru my priority is laptop access (happy they were aligned with each other here), and secondarily a quick access pocket, which in this case can be the top tech area. Could they have put everything on same side (quick access pocket, laptop access, water bottle access, and handle)? Doesn’t seem possible without making a much deeper bag (e.g. CTB) or compromising other parts of the design. Maybe they should have put dual front zippered pockets, one for each side? Yeah, OK, I’d buy that. :) That and a false bottom for laptop area would be welcome v2.0 improvements.

If the handle were on that side, first you would lose access to the water bottle pocket, and the bag would be "backwards" when carried with the right hand (this doesn't necessarily matter but might have been a consideration). Most people would need to use their opposite hand when transitioning from backpack to side-handle carry anyway, so to me it seems like the right call (swing, grab top handle with left, side handle with right)

@@MrJed_s what I see on the opposite side is the vertical pocket, not the side handle. All handles should be on that side imo (right-handed mount and set-down). Backpacks are supposed to be mounted starting with the left hand if you are right-handed. When setting it down you pull back out the right hand first.

@@Jim_in_Portlandyep you nailed that reply, my thoughts exactly, a bag this size it is t possible to get all the waterbottle pocket, carry handle, front vertical pocket and laptop pocket all on the same side. And I also love the front quick access pocket and water bottle pocket on the same side so I can access the both when swinging the bag off my shoulder. The laptop pocket I would never need to access with the front access pocket or water bottle pocket. I prefer it on the opposite side with the side grab handle for use on my roller luggage.

Great backpack and review. Picked it up on the drop. The front tech pocket is a game changer, it’s well done and useful for folks who like to work out of their pack vs using tech pouches. The front pocket opening was a little small for such a large pocket and the pockets on main compartment were just odd enough I didn’t find a good use for them. It’s definitely high on my list of truly tech backpacks that should be considered. Loved the slimness of 6in for a 20l pack. Aer city pack is still my king bean bag for edc but I will say this Sympl Commuter bag surprisingly competes well with it.

I got this on the drop too. Best edc I’ve ever had, and in my opinion it’s the best edc ever made.

This is an awesome looking bag. The fabric is not entirely my favorite. I recently sold my aer CPP and this might be a perfect alternative. The only thing I'm missing is a pocket close to your side or back to fit a wallet or something sensitive. Would make it great to store your metro card or passport

I love this fabric, it’s soft but super tough and abrasion resistant. Sympl nailed it with this fabric, best coated fabric out there, has a nice Matte finish, super weatherproof and looks so killer.

Just a heads up, have have this bag, and it feels like a really tight 20L to me. The main compartment could have used another 2L and be perfect. I also have the CPP and it feels huge in comparison to this one.
@DaemonViews2 ай бұрын
@@marybethmaloyG that would be nice because I sold the CPP because it felt too big
@TheBagFreak2 ай бұрын
@@marybethmaloyGyeah this sympl bag is the perfect size bag for me, maybe feels like a 19L but no smaller, but I wouldn’t want it any bigger for an edc and that’s why I love it so much. The CPP feels like a 25L at least, it’s a big tank, too big for an edc for me.

@@DaemonViewsyeah I sold my CPP as it was too big also. I got the sympl commuter and it’s absolutely PERFECT. Best EDC I’ve ever had and I think it’s the best backpack ever made. Can’t wait to see what sympl does for future versions of this bag.

Is it possible to remove the logo? I hate visible logos so that's a deal breaker for me if it can't be taken off.

You can cover it with a black marker. I’ve seen it done before

I LIKE BAGS! Now that’s off me chest, I’m in the market for an edc bag that holds a MacBook Pro 16 and can take on trips with a small roller luggage carry on. I’ve watched more Dannypacks vids in the last week than Netflix and Crunchy roll combined. Sooo I’m down to 2 maybe 3 choices. CTB20, 26, and GR-1 with a molle water bottle attached and maybe Jerry rig a luggage passthrough when flying. I’m so torn!! Wish I could see these in person before buying. I’m 5’11” as well. Any advice would be great!! 🍻

How would you compare this to the evergoods CTB20 and the Able Carry daily plus? I’d love to see a comparison video..
@dannypacks6 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and for the suggestion! This feels more weather resistant than the ctb20 and has some additional built in organization but I prefer that water bottle pockets and laptop compartment on the CTB. The daily plus layout is a little different since it’s not clamshell and it’s a simpler bag overall which can work well. I would say the able carry is the most comfortable of the three and the weather resistance is great but of the three the CtB layout and look are still my favorite

Can you compare this to the Whitley? Im torn between the two. I like this bag because of the blue liner but im not sure how this bags internal compartment is smaller than the whitley but it has the same dimension specs.
