I'm so happy I got to hear this conversation. I'm so happy that people are talking about it! I'm a textile illustrator, usually I'm very happy to see my prints on clothing. Except one occasion, when my print was used in horrifying way for plus size, the garment did not had any form, when I asked why it is shapeless, I was answered that's it is for plus size. Please don't get me wrong I wasn't upset because it was on a plus size, I was upset because of the thoughtless way it was used, and because the result was sad and shapeless. I believe clothes should bring joy and happiness to everyone, please keep up the good work!

My daughter was a bridal consultant for a year or so. She was so good at it! Her method was to start with a gown that was a size larger than the woman whenever possible. The reason for this was that women get into their own heads. They see only the "flaws". She used to come home upset. She'd rant about tiny bridesmaids pulling dresses that were obviously too small. She'd have to tell them to just stop it and sit down.

I tend to assume that the reason designers refuse to design for larger or more mature women is that they can’t - because they aren’t good enough.

I am a sewer. And let me tell you: it is way harder to make clothes that fit and look right on curvy, fuller figures. Stick figures all look alike and are easy to dress, anything will fit. Fuller bodies are much more diverse, because fullness will not be in the same areas on people. Some are apples (like me) and some are pears with tiny waists, some women have larger breats and some not etc.... These issues are just not there with stick figures that have no shape, no breasts and are just the equivalent of clothes hangers. Unless they design all stretchy clothes, you will have a hard time to do one size/shape to fit all. In earlier times, clothes were not mass produced and this issue was not existing that we all had to fit the same thing. Nowadays, if you are fuller and want to have clothes that look good, you will almost have to make them yourself. Because what is out there for fuller figures are shapeless tents. It is the only way they can cater to this bodytype and have a larger portion of people fitting in the clothes. Do they look good: no. Because to make well fitting fitted garments for fuller shapes, that is almost bespoke work and who can pay that?

Money doesn't talk in fashion. Why are there thousands of smalls, mediums, and a handful of larges, and 2 extra larges? I've seen that unboxing over and over.
