Good topic. IPE is quite an interesting condition that needs a good history and clinical examination to verify as the most likely cause, especially in remote locations.

After diving my ears started blocking and i found a small or little bleeding inside my mouth should I consult a doctor.
@DrFJCronje2 жыл бұрын
Dear Manith, thank you for your question. Bleeding in the oronasal passages can come from a number of places, including the middle ear (via the Eustachian Tube) from the sinuses or from the nasal septum. As you seem to have had difficulty clearing your ear, the odds that the bleeding came from you ears would seem the most likely. Other than ensuring that your hearing was not affected badly, and to offer pain medication and antibiotics if needed, a doctor (preferably a diving doctor or ENT familiar with diving would best be able to see if this is something serious, likely to recur and in need of treatment. Hope that helps. The DAN SA Team

Hello I just got done diving 3 times today and I have a presser in my throat. It’s almost like I have burp in my throat and it’s stuck it has only been about 3 hours but should I be worried
@DrFJCronje2 жыл бұрын
Oh dear! By now things should be resolved, but perhaps I can give you some advice that could help in the future. Many divers accidentally or deliberately swallow to equalise while diving and swallow compressed air as a result. During ascent, this may build up and - as you say - cause a burp or a burp-like feeling. Sometimes just drinking a glass of a non-fizzy drink can help open the lower gastro oesophagal valve. Also, avoid food that is prone to ferment in the body and can cause bloating. Cruciferous Foods are notorious for gas formation as well, so beware of cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. Hope that helps. Dr Frans Cronje

Just came back from diving, and i have a ringing in my right ear, did i not pop my ears properly? Does that happen to people happen?
@DrFJCronje3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your great question. The process of equalising the ears can transfer a significant impulse on the inner ear, not unlike a gunshot. the EA adapts to this by making use of two muscles that dampen sounds- the tensor tympani and stapedius muscles. At the end of the exposure to sound or noise, these muscles are often still active, and there may also be an excitement of the inner ear cells, which can last for several hours. If the tinnitus has not subsided significantly within an hour, it is wise to seek medical advice to determine whether there has been damage to the middle- and possibly the inner ear. Fortunately, this is rarely the case, and even where this does occur, it is almost always mild and transient. If you continue to have problems with this after diving, please email me on if fjcronje@gmail.com. so that I can get a better history of exactly what you are experiencing. Warmest regards, Frans Cronje
