Plus here is a list of codes that could be as a result of a bad Evap vent solenoid and cause you to have a check engine light:
P0440 - General Fault in the Evap System
P0446 - Evap System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction
P0447 - Evap System Vent Valve / Solenoid Circuit Open
P0448 - Evap System Vent Valve / Solenoid Circuit Shorted
P0449 - Evap System Vent Valve / Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
P0455 - Evap System Large Leak Detected
P0456 - Evap System Small Leak Detected

If anyone is having trouble pumping gas in this model car, you definitely want to check the filter tube vent. This is located driver's side rear wheel well. You will have to remove the wheel to get access to the plastic shroud in the wheel well. The filter tube vent is located behind there. You'd be surprised how much road debris actually gets trapped up in there despite it being covered. When I cleaned mine, I removed a dustpan sized pile of dirt and sand. In my case, cleaning that filler vent did the trick allowing me to pump gas, and not have to do the "flip the gas nozzle upsidedown" trick in order to pump gas. 3 years since and still pumping gas fine. Just a quick tip no one really talks about. 😉

@gardenstateflatlandb
@gardenstateflatlandb Жыл бұрын
@@codyshuey258 Search KZbin with the year make and model of your car, and evap canister vent valve/solenoid. On a 2001-2006 Hyundai Elantra that valve/solenoid is located in the charcoal canister housing located left rear...under the bumper and behind the left rear wheel. Open the housing, disconnect the hoses, and check for charcoal or any other blockages in the valve and in the hoses connected to it. Might possibly be your valve is stuck closed and unable to open and close as needed. If that's the case, a replacement would be needed and is fairly simple and inexpensive. Sorry, if that's not the info you're seeking. Good starting point at least. Good luck.

You are seriously the hero of the day. This just saved my butt completely. After checking the wiring and replacing the solenoid With no luck of getting rid of the code, i watched your video. Unhooked everything and dropped the Evap canister blew air into it to see if it was clogged. Seemed fine. Traced the hoses back only to find dirt packed completely in the outside vent. Looked like the vent cover may have been reinstalled upside down by someone so it was able to fill up like a cup. Anyways thank you so much ! Blessings

This video was very helpful. I been having problems with my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 09' I thought it was my spark plugs and cord's and spark wires. So I changed them and the problem got bad. So I drop my gas tank and changed the fuel pump and still was acting bad. So I read up on it and now I probably know it's a bad purge valve. But I'm glad I changed everything myself and I'm learning as I go along in life.

Tanks also have pressure sensors that the PCM uses to determine how much vaccum pressure the tank needs, in order to know what signals to send to the purge valve and the vent solenoid. The gas caps is also vented to let in fresh air to the tank upon vaccum pull from the PCM. Caps determine open or closed based on vaccum and gas pressures and vary based on tank pressures.

@@cloutkingupnext4721 possibly. If the bias voltage isn't at the expected level it could indicate a problem with the solenoid, but it could (also) mean there is a problem with the wiring. e.g. a damaged/corroded wire. That's a really good explanation, Thanks, I think you could add that on start up the computer puts ground to the vent solenoid and closes it so a leak test is done on the fuel system. Vacuum is pulled by the engine and if the tank has a leak (loose cap, cracked hose or leaky or non closing vent solenoid) a code is set and check engine light comes on. Thank you for the overview of how this is _supposed_ to work. Are gas vapors so prolific that they needed to create this horrific overly complicated EVAP system? I understand one-way valve letting air in for gas burnt so it doesn't create a vacuum. I don't understand the reason for a purge out of air, which looks to be where the complexity comes in, in system design, maintenance and repair.

One of the best videos on the subject. I had a lot of questions about the vent valve solenoid. You provided a lot of good information for me thank you.

That happened to my aunt's '05 Sedona. She took it to a mechanic down the road and he said it needed a new cam, lifters and a head job. I put my code reader on it and she told him to hold off and replace the solenoid. he did and it's still running great.Thanks for making this video...!!!

This video is a great help. It's better than the repair manual. I'll try the tests. Whenever I open the trunk of my 1998 Ford Escort it smells like a refinery.

Thank you for this informative video. I recently brought my Prius to the shop and had it pressurized with a smoke test and found no leaks I suspect that it could be the vent solenoid. The check engine code was P0456 which is EVAP small leak! The car will be going back to the shop a second time to confirm this.

I have watched several videos to get my head wrapped around the evap system because I have to know how the step I am doing is affecting the entire system or pause the video after step execute it, and then listen to desired outcome. If they don't match, I still can't diagnose because I am not familiar with the terms. Your explanation of the entire system fixes all that. Thank u sir.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I’m having these exact symptoms on my 2013 Ford Fusion and I’ve already purchased a replacement vapor canister vent valve but I didn’t fully understand how it worked/how it would give me these symptoms! But thanks to your video and diagram, you have given me all the information I need to fix my issue! Great job sir!!!

Excellent. The general code of p0440 makes me think of a wild chase for a fix but we must begin somewhere. Its not the 5 gas caps that each mechanic has replaced. lol Thank you so much.
