As a native English speaker from the land which it hales. I would say that "we aren't in the garden" is perfectly acceptable but that "we have not an important meeting" is at the height of ungrammatical, it should either be "We have not got an important meeting" or "We do not/don't have an important meeting".

Rather strange as linguistics tries to develop a grammar system that can handle any language in the World. This is a very limited (albeit, strange design) approach to English. It's clear that it doesn't work for isolating languages or inflected languages. Many of the aspects discussed in this segment are covered in completely different ways in more powerful grammars (e.g., Van Valin, Givon, Kroeger) which can handle isolating and inflected (towards the extremes) languages. What, then, is the rationale for choosing this approach over other far more powerful grammars?
