How do you get this to sync up in Arrangement view instead of session view? Session view always hurt my brain and I'm trying to also automate lights and stuff that only make sense to me in arrangement view.
@paulmackpaulmack10 ай бұрын
Depends on your use case, but the following information may or may not be useful. This is what worked for us to have our Live 11 Suite session cue clips in Resolume Arena 7 on the same M1 MacBook Air without any additional plugins: [mac] - Open Audio MIDI Setup on Mac - Command+2 to Show MIDI Studio - Double-click IAC Driver and make sure it is online [ableton] - Ableton > Preferences > MIDI. Check IAC Driver Output track and remote options - Create a MIDI track and output to IAC Driver, MPE channel - Set MPE settings to multi-channel mode - Draw MIDI notes. Each note unique to a Resolume clip. We did this is arrangement view. [resolume] - Open Preferences and enable IAC Driver Bus 1 MIDI Input - Navigate to Shortcuts > Edit MIDI - Select a clip - Go to Ableton and play the unique MIDI note that corresponds with the clip. This will assign that note to the clip. - Exit out of Edit MIDI view and test. End result: when the Ableton session fires the MIDI, the data goes through the IAC driver, and launches the assigned Resolume clip. A note about timecode: Blackhole works fine. But we just made a physical loop out of an unused output into an unused input and then assigned that input as the SMPTE source in Resolume.

@@daveedbay Another observation: MIDI track should output to MPE channel when MIDI mapping into Resolume, but would be more reliable during playback when switching the MIDI track output to Ch2. I do not have an explanation for this, as I am not familiar with either Ableton or Resolume, and this was determined via trial and error only,
@daveedbay9 ай бұрын
@@paulmackpaulmack Just a quick note on this - i succesfully had a live performance using the setup you provided. MPE settings were multi-channel and you're correct that sending this to Ch2 only was the correect move for it to work with Resolume. However, this does mean I can have a gigantic set of notes sending to resolume and as long as the channels are set correctly I could essentially have over1000 individual clips or parameters being set by ableton. Same note, different channel :)

If you route the SMPTE via main audio output settings from Ableton via Blackhole to Resolume (Ch 3), the SMPTE connection works fine BUT it is not possible, to still listen to the Master (Ch 1/2) sound of Ableton via Interface (Komplete Audio 6) on my speakers or PA. How do you solve this when you want to perform live (both on the same computer)? I already tried to build a multi output device via Audio-MIDI-Setup which includes Blackhole and my interface and chose this as my output, but then the SMPTE connection in Resolume is not working anymore, because there is no possibility for multi device input (?) - it only works with Blackhole alone. Do you have a solution for that? How can i send the main audio signal from Ableton to the interface and the SMPTE signal to Resolume?
@JulianGrayMedia3 жыл бұрын
You can use another program like audio hijack to receive the Blackhole signal and route it to your audio interface. Unfortunately there's not many options for this if you're using an aggregate device.

Thanks for this tutorial, very helpful! I have a doubt tho, by selecting Blackhole as your audio output, how do you get your audio to play on the speakers of the venue or your own? You still need to use your soundcard as an output to get the sound to the mixing table am I right? Ableton only gives you one output option so it's a bit confusing.

Great, deep run through. 2023 update, there are a lot more tools for native use in ableton, esp now that M4L/vizzie was put on steroids and bundled with suite…plus COVID probably lending to lots of spare time from devs. Some suggestions, esp if performing live is session view is your game, @ebosuite @showsync (video sync), @t3x2r, and some other more project ish M4L devices. In any case, this setup with resolume is def still the most code free winning setup I’ve seen so far if trying to go outside ableton. Party on 🎉🎉🎉

You never ever start SMPTE session on 00:00:00:00 . All pros start at 01:00:00:00 just in case you want to add something in the start so you don’t have to reprogram everything. With only two programs that’s easy but if you have 50 it is not fun.

I didn't catch any part in the video where you mentioned this but does this method work for following along with BPM changes? I need a solution where if I play a song in Live faster or slower than it's native tempo the pre-edited video clip in Resolume stays in sync by adjusting its playback speed as well.
@AaronLevitz2 жыл бұрын
Resolume does support Ableton Link, but I don’t know whether that pairs well with SMPTE timecode (or if the two mangle each other). Some testing required.
@AaronLevitz2 жыл бұрын
I guess they have to run independently of each other. Your SMPTE audio should play unwarped, and ignore tempo changes. You’d link that with video footage that plays in time with prerecorded audio, also ignoring tempo changes. Ableton Link would then lock any generative effects you might be using to the tempo of your live set. You can then automate tempo changes at the beginning of each song, and everything locks together. …but if you make spontaneous unplanned tempo changes, your video will fall out of sync. Planning is key here.
@emumist2 жыл бұрын
@@AaronLevitz Hi, thank you! Does the SMPTE audio have to play unwarped in order to work in general?
@AaronLevitz2 жыл бұрын
@@emumist I've never heard of it working any other way. You can, of course, test for yourself. Should be a fun experiment, and maybe you'll luck out. Just don't get complacent about testing every application you run that code into, and re-testing after every software update. (Your life will be much easier if you just assume that timecode has to play back at the same speed it was generated to play back at.)
@NickFromNetherlands2 жыл бұрын
Tempo changes in (MTV) video is complex to handle. With Steinberg Spectalayers you extract the Kick. In Cubase import the video. Set track to time. Video and Audio are sync. Analyse the Kick track to generate tempo track. Convert the click track to DAW Reaper. All the markers can be converted from Reaper to GrandMA2 with plugin. Lights will be beat sync. (So no need to type SMPTE time for every beat it is done auto)
