Take a moment to appreciate a finest machine the legendary Nikola Tesla invented in his early life. The synchronous motor inspite of having very few applications over the years has the most beautiful working.

You Synchronous motors are not self started motors but they would start like induction motors right. After that we give DC supply in order to achieve synchronous speed. I have studied practically.

@Know Them All Great work brother. I want to convert single phase induction motor to permanent magnet rotor synchronous motor. If the single phase induction motor has 4 poles stator, then how poles should I have in the rotor (I am going to use permanent magnet rotor poles).
@knowthemall19952 жыл бұрын
First of all, I am sorry for the late reply. The number of stator poles should be equal to the number of rotor poles. So, your synchronous motor's rotor should contain 4 poles. But if you are going to perform this practically, you need to consider starting methods of the new motor.

Bro I have doubt, is this synchronous motor controlled with frequency?, if so we can make the frequency=1, poles = 4, so Ns = 120/4 = 30rpm, so we can give starting rotation with hand rotation and once it reaches Sync speed we can increase the frequency
@knowthemall19952 жыл бұрын
Exactly! That is absolutely possible. This is why we need Power Electronics : to control frequency.
