Gosh. Thanks very much. Of all things I have a physics degree and was stumpt on how one could make such a simple wee motor with such neat properties. Save me from dissecting it. My wife gets upset when I take new things apart.

i have small motor 220/240 5/6 rpm @ 4 watt, i want attach them into pulley or gearbox for veryy slow rotating turntable (diamter about 1 meter), probably max weight about 3 kg's do you think my motor were adequate enough? i am not good at calculate pyhsic things, thank you

TYJ50 Synchronous Motor are sold CW (clockwise) CCW or CW CCW

Chris, would a couple of hairline cracks in the magnet in the smaller motor you show be the demise of my motor?

Um how do you start a motor with the coils already energized? Statement did not really make sense.

A synchronous motor is started as an induction motor and is brought to about 95% of synchronous speed. Then the DC field excitation is applied and the motor pulls into synchronism. Chris

I got it to turn for awhile then wanted turn in the opposite direction and then stopped.

Im not to good with these motor types but it might be that either the synchronous speed in the stator became too fast for the rotor to keep up, or the torque the rotor had to rotate became too much. The condition you described sounds alot like whats called 'hunting'. Unfortunately my problem is i only have theoretical background at the moment.

look inside your motor, you will see ONE coil! how is it the same like your paper diagram? not the same.

The top diagram is a 3 phase synchronous motor, the tjy 50-8b1 is single phase with one coil. thanks for the comment.
