A Synchronous Motor can also be used for power factor correction in a plant, by running it at leading power factor, making the plant as a whole operate more efficiently.

@@John-j8q7gThere are a couple governing equations, it all comes from the manufacturer’s E-i curve and the vector summation of E,V and I. Where E is the induced voltage, V is the network voltage, i is the excitation current through the rotor and I is the network intensity.

Is a syncronous motor similar to the bldc motors that are used on quadcopters and stuff except instead of dc being turned on and off, we have proper ac that already does it by itself?

Hello, BLDC motor and Parmenent Magnet Synchronous Motor belong to synchronous rotating electric machines. The BLDC motor has a significant functional drawback because in each of the six steps (rotation angles) of the rotor it is powered by only two phases out of the three system phases. To function quietly and be as efficient as possible, it must be powered by the sine function. It was experimentally found that the gates of the switching transistors should be powered with PWM signals with a waveform "bent" in the middle. The PMSM is powered by a three-phase sine function and therefore does not have the mentioned disadvantage. I wonder if i have 2 12v motors on 2 light up deorations why one light turns faster than the other? last time i used them they were both the same working great, i packed them away and took them out and now 1 spins faster than the other and makes a bit of noise? i dont have anyone to ask so if you have any ideas please lmk.

Most videos dont explain this in regenerative braking. They just explain it using a regular asynchronous motor which isnt possible in regenerative mode. At least in my view

He knows, which motor to use, for most applications in / of the shop. Very good video....do one on delta / wye and 3 phase power. Another KZbinr, ' Kathy Loves Physics and History '' . This lady, does an excellent work, of the ' history ' of AC /DC power, the discovery of 2, 3 phase power ; Tesla, Edison bickering and fighting over AC and DC. (Edison lost the DC venture. ) and the most special gifted one of all ; Dolivo-Dobrowolsky “Transmission of Power by Rotary-Phase Alternative Currents” The Electrical Engineer (April 3, 1891) p. 336. HER videos, are spot-on for the engineer-to-be. My older brother, was a master engineer. Worked for Weyerhauser in Prince Albert pulp plant, now deceased. .....RIP. Anyway......Be good to all !

Disadvantages or Demerits: Synchronous motors requires dc excitation which must be supplied from external sources. Synchronous motors are inherently not self starting motors and needs some arrangement for its starting and synchronizing. The cost per kW output is generally higher than that of induction motors.
