Syncing Vaults in Obsidian

this is SO good! And so helpful. Question: I'm moving machines. I have a remote vault set up and synced to my local vault. How can I delete my data on my old machine and move tonew one and not impact my remote vault? Do I disconnect my local vault from my remote vault before deleting?

Yes, i think so. You would disconnect it from the remote vault then reconnect to the new machine

Question for you, is there any way I can use the Apple Notes app on my iphone but have that sync with Obsidian somehow? Thanks so much for your feedback Shant🙏🏻 To your question, the simplest and realistic way to take notes on the iphone and have them synced with Obsidian is to use the Obsidian iOS app. There must be a way to sync apple notes with Obsidian (like using Zapier or iOS shortcuts) but i think those approaches are too complicated 😆

Hi Gordon. This may be an issue with the location of the attachment folder. You might need to check that attachment folder is in icloud too.

Hi Kay, hmmm it sounds to me like an icloud problem rather than obsidian problem. Can you see that icloud folder on the iphone in the “Files” app?

Now they are syncing so, all is well. I noticed you're in Thailand. I'm moving there (nakhon pathom) in 2 weeks. I'm a vegan. What happened to your vegan food app, Indy Dish? Hello, ive been using obsidian for 1 month and its so useful and simple, but since i linked my vault to iCloud my mind cant rest in peace thinking about if i use obsidian without internet, so my question is i have my phone with internet, if i use obsidian for example in my laptop (no internet) and modify files, create, etc and i have it linked to my iPhone, how bad the conflicts with files are?, uhh for example, after doing everything i need on my laptop, i want to create a new note but in my phone, will both link to iCloud without problems? (whenever my laptop connects to wifi)

That’s the problem with the iCloud sync! The files conflict could be bad. If you want to go with icloud i think you have to regularly back your notes :)

Good question! If you now use Obsidian Sync, you should sync your remote vault with the local vault on your local device (mac or iphone), instead of using the icloud folder.

I did this step by step but for some rease the laptop local vault and phone local vault did not sync properly. The Sync status still show "running" with a pause button. I tried several time the process in this video without success. Any help ?

Thanks RQ! You just need to 1. purchase obsidian sync 2. Turn on Obsidian Sync on iphone and create a remote vault (this is very similar to what i demo in the video but instead of doing on mac you do on your phone)

I do! iCloud sync is not perfect and do have some glitches. If you lost notes, what you can do is going to your icloud on the browser and try to find a button called “restore files” (something along that line) … You might also want to back up your notes regularly as well.

Thank you Darin for this Video. My brother showed me Obsidian since I was searching for a good note taking app and I was not happy with apps like (Evernote,Notion,Craft or Apple Notes) . I wanted to sync all my files using my Synlogy NAS but I didnt found an easy way to do it so far. Since I work in the Apple Ecosystem I was unsure if I use the option of iCloud to sync my files. After watching your Video I decided to give Obsidian sync a try since I really dont like it at all if syncing takes some time and you cant really decide what files to sync. Keep up doing your Videos! 😊

Hey Darren, I appreciate your efforts in these videos, but this is the third video I’ve watched of yours where your examples don’t match up visually with what is on the iPhone, or on the Mac. For a brand new setup beginning. You go through the videos pretty quickly because you know this stuff, but not much is matching up so it’s hard to follow. I successfully created a vault folder on iCloud Drive from the Mac desktop but when I open Obsidian on the iPhone it does not readily find this folder like it does in your example. I believe your example has already been set up and you’re just showing us what it looks like after you set this up and not how to set this up. It would be a little more helpful if you went through the beginning, set up, step-by-step, so someone could follow along at that pace, rather than seeing something that has already been set up as a show and tell, and then you move on. But thanks for your efforts. You’re a good presenter.

I also have this issue. I created vault in iCloud in my Mac. But when I installed and loaded the obsidian iPhone app (v1.4.3) I only have option to set up obsidian sync, or create a new vault. There is no option to connect to my existing iCloud vault. Anyone else having this issue? Or know fix? Thank you.
