kyle’s long list of skills, abilities and cognition are a testament to kyle’s mom, just as much as to kyle himself - your dedication, patience and unconditional love are so apparent. And thank you for including some of kyle’s sel-initiated behaviors and emotions - i love it when he expresses pleasure!!!

I’m glad he can read, identify colors, shapes, letters of the alphabet, and everything kids should know by 5 years old. He’s lucky to already know this stuff and be able to read. A lot of people with his disabilities need lots help with that. I have some of his disabilities, but not as severe as his. You and him should work on writing, preparing meals, zipping his coat, brushing his teeth. He may need 24h care (unlike me) but he still needs to learn how to do all that independently and if he works on writing, he will be better at communicating. Have you tried doing the rapid prompting method with him? You know it should be a piece of paper (ether laminated or not) that has letters, numbers, punctuations and a space bar. It’s very underrated way to communicate.

Thank you for sharing all of this! We have not tried the Rapid Prompting Method, but I have heard of it.

I LOVE this! Thank you for sharing all the things Kyle CAN do. I really resonated with the first part where you talked about what he can’t do. My son is similar but with a different diagnosis. I find myself saying “no” a lot when I am asked about his abilities as well. I love the “Go Kyle, go” :)

What a heartwarming presentation! I am so glad that I subscribed and it is so good to see a video on what Kyle can do. I am so sorry that you have to answer questions so much on what Kyle can't do. The most amazing thing with your raising Kyle, is that in these videos is that you treat Kyle with so much respect, and you treat him as an individual and let him do what he can, and in many ways that helps him grow and learn. I really think there is a lot more going on in his mind than any test or questionnaire can measure. "Kyle is nonverbal, so sometimes it’s difficult to know what he understands and can do" - I believe that really is true. But you know that and you let Kyle do as much as you can, and turn every moment and experience into a teaching moment. You don't baby him. You even alter the words of songs you sing: "Hush little Kyle, don't say a word..." You treat him with so much dignity, and at the same time you provide the care he needs. That is truly amazing. This is one of my favorite videos. I really am in awe at your patience, and parenting skills. I know a lot of kids in my area who go into college and major in Special Education, and I hope that they have a chance to watch your videos because it teaches them how to work with and interact with students with similar needs as Kyle.

Thank you for showing us what Kyle can do. It's better to look at the can instead of the cant dues. My disability causes me not to be able to do certain things. I go to a school that specifically works with my disability. I love it so

Kyle is so smart!! It’s always good to focus on the “cans “ and celebrating small victories versus focusing on the “ cant’s. This helps me every time I feel down. Every time we have a IEP meeting, therapy session or doctors appointments I am always met with all the things that my boys can’t do and it’s heart crushing. I really enjoyed this video. Kyle is so sweet ❤️ You have raised a wonderful young man! He is blessed to have parents who never give up!! Good job mama!

Hi Kelli. I just discovered your channel and are learning so much. I’m so glad you made and shared this particular video with us. As a sightless person myself, I know how difficult and unfair it is when people think of our *challenges* as the single most defining aspect of us, when in fact, we are *all* defined by what we are as human beings and by what we *can* do. You two are quite a team! Best wishes for you, Kyle! You are simply fantabulous, buddy! :)
