Syngonium podophyllum albo-variegatum (Variegated Arrowhead Vine) Houseplant Care - 21 of 365

In the Philippines, I grow it full sun and I sometimes forget to water it and worse, it is in a hanging basket but it's near a humid place so it survives. I learned that it loves the sun as long as the main root is in a nice humid protected area it will do well. It's starting to compete with my pothos for space but they sort of help each other by maintaining the humidity.

The green one is in my garden (Sydney Australia) its very difficult to get rid of. If you break it off it just grows from the break. I've put it in the compost bin and it has keep growing in there! I have the variegated one in a hanging basket and it has survived despite complete neglect. I'd say only ever keep tin a pot.

I've had my syngonium albo variegatum for a while but it just wasn't doing much . It started from a cutting. Within the last few months its been pushing out some BEAUTIFUL new growth and it has now become one of my favorites in my collection.

I have one just in water (around 10 years now!). I tryed to plant it on earth a couple of times but it seems that she doesn't like that way. I also had another in a big pot that my female dog looove to pee in it, and that made the plant became gorgeus! (Not the same effect when the male dog pee in it).

My Albo is outside year around. When it vines to the ground it reverts to all green and sure does become invasive! I want to try to take some reverted stems & start them back in pots to see if they will return to the beautiful variegated foliage just to satisfy my curiosity. Your video is very interesting. Enjoyed learning they can grow near water in the wild and much more. Thanks!

There was a huge one of these growing in my sophomore geometry class back in high school in the ‘80s, on a file cabinet beside a tinted north-facing window. I always wanted one but only finally got around to buying one (actually three small ones I placed in a hanging pot) about 2 years ago. I have them growing in a bathroom under lots of artificial light, where they seem to be thriving. They have gotten a bit leggy - leaves closer to the base have died off a couple of times when I’ve let the plant dry out too much. They’re much more sensitive to this than Pothos, which tolerates occasionally drying out without much impact. I think the fact they superficially resemble Pothos left me treating them like Pothos, but I’d recommend these never be allowed to dry out. Beautiful variety there on the desk in front of you. Really striking.

I'm from Sea and I let our backyard floor as is wherein lots of wild plants grow happily. Green syngoniums are one of them.

Wow, just bought one today before I saw your video! Mine is a (very) small "exotic allusion" hybrid (don't hold it against me if the colour is wrong, it's a small plant and hard to tell which way it will really go colour-wise). I also bought my first hoya! A krimson queen, plus a prince of orange philodendron (swoon), a virginia blue fern, a peperomia depressa (that looks joyfully healthy) and a maranta tricolour that is struggling badly and was in the discount bin. In other words, small day at the office and my husband will prob have my head...

I accidentally broke off about a 16-inch piece of stem from mine. I tossed it into one of my aquariums to see what would happen. Within 3 weeks it had new roots and new leaves all along the stem at each node. It is completely submerged and is growing amazingly fast.

In Europe, there are no all-green syngoniums. All we have here are these weird light green marbled ones, which is a shame. The all-green ones are much more hardy.

My mom’s been growing an Arrowhead vine in the windowsill of a south/south-west facing window. It’s just a big bush with tiny leaves, so i cleaned it up and moved it further away. I’m hoping that it’ll do better there.

I bought a beautiful pink syngonium yesterday from, believe it or not, our local Trader Joe’s. It’s my first one and it’s in a home with several cats, so it needs to be up and away from them. I want it to keep its beautiful pinkness, so how is the best way to do that? Does it fall under that same variegation rule that it needs more sun to keep the pink variegations? Because don’t syngoniums normally not need a lot of light? Help, lol! I just recently started incorporating plants in to my home and I’m now addicted, but I love your channel, it has helped me learn so much! So thank you! And any advise you have on my pink girl would be great, thanks!

I have kept my syngonium in absolutely east facing window. When Kept indoors the plant yields very small leaves and when it gets a good east sunlight the leaves grow way big!! But the leaves are very thin, your leaves look crisp. Please show where you have kept your bigger vine.

Hi Summer! Those are beautiful Syngoniums! I'd like to find a variegated one like that. I have a small strawberry pink in soil and, possibly, a Maria Allusion in water. When shopping with my daughter yesterday, a girl cut off a start for me, but I don't know the variety. I used to have these, but they get so leggy (hence the one in water). Is this normal, or can that be avoided by giving appropriate light and turning often? I really like these and hope they do well. Thank you for Sharing!

A warm grower that you must protect from chills & drafts. If it gets a chill or drafts under 60F it will quickly go into a downward spiral.

Hi Summer! I purchased one of these a few months ago, the variegation was absolutely beautiful. However, instead of the variegation being white, it's now turning greenish, but still lots of variegation. Is this something that happens often? Is there a way to revert back to white variegation? I realize that you mentioned that the variegation isn't stable, since the new growth is showing more of bright yellowish green, my best guest is that it may be trying to revert to the green form? I know fertilizer isn’t one size fits all but is there a fertilizer that one size fits most? Is there a fertilizer I could get that I could dilute to use for all/most? I have 100 house plants, and over 200 patio plants. I live in South Florida. I find most plant information/conditions don’t pertain to us as it is hot as, well, it’s really hot here.

I have a problem with my syngonium. Some leaves (mature and new) get brown-grey spots on center of the leaf, not on the edges. New leaves are growning fine, but it keeps getting these spots... Dont know what to do. Someone?

It's hard to say for sure without seeing the plant but brown/grey spots in the center of your syngonium leaves could mean two things. One could be the nitrogen in your fertilizer is too high or it could be fungal. I would try lowering the nitrogen first. Hope this helps. Good luck!
