I didn’t realise the RCC was using incomprehensible church-speak, and even worse, allowing the laity to determine the Church’s future. Looks like they’re headed the same way as the C of E and the Episcopal Church.

The Church should listen to God and what He wants. Not what people want. If The Church will change, because of what people want, I need to remind you that The Church has no authority to change God's laws. So if people want to include gay marriage, The Church would allow it because of what people want? What about what HE wants? The leaders of The Church will have to answer to God on judgment day. Please do not receive Communion in the hands and please kneel down when receiving Him. All will kneel at the name of Jesus, and you are in front of Him when you receive Communion. So kneel down when receiving Communion. It's time to do God's will. Not people's will which is distorted and offensive to God.

God wants Pope Francis to lead his church. God gave him the keys so when Pope Francis instructs us to be a listening church we better do just that.

The big flaw with the "Synod on Synodality" was always going to be the fact that if you ask people for their opinions, then there is a very real danger that they will give them to you. The clear intention of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church with this exercise was the same as always: "We expect the Catholic faithful to rubber-stamp whatever we say". Unfortunately, they haven't on this occasion. Sure, the vast majority of "ordinary" Catholics didn't bother responding to the plethora of questionnaires circulated to them during the early days of the Synod "consultation", as they knew that these responses would go straight into the dustbin. But a number of them DID respond, with those on the left demanding the acceptance of birth control, rehabilitation of divorced Catholics, married priests, and even women priests - and those on the right demanding that Catholicism be reduced to the celebration of the Tridentine mass in Latin and absolutely nothing else. And equally unfortunately for the Hierarchy, none of these suggestions are acceptable to it in any way whatsoever. Which is why the entire Synodality idea, so enthusiastically proselytised in its early days, is now being kicked into the long grass. There will be a "sort-of" conference on the topic in October 2023, based on an Instrumentum Laboris that is an apotheosis of fancy-worded nothingness, and then there will be a "follow-up" conference in October 2024. Which, let's face it, is barely disguised code for "by which time the Magisterium will have done its best to quietly forget about the whole thing".

Originally, the Synod of Bishops was the highest office within the Church, where the Metropolitan Bishops used National Patriarchs used to come together by the calling of the Ecumenical Patriarch, in order to resolve their local conflicts, so this office had pretty much the same status as the Papacy have today in the Roman-Catholic Church, and that's what the Synod of Bishops has remained until this day in the Orthodox Church.

Hi, a listenig church sounds great but often, no one wants to shake the boat. Peoplr are afraid to speak their minds afraid that what they say will be held sgainst them. What will work is to be abld to accept sugfestiins outside the box. The box are the conventions laid down. How then does the church modify itself from within esp the way it deals with those who have exhibited abnormal behaviour towards young parishioners?

Hi Nancy, That's true... Thankfully the Church understands the need to truly become a listening Church and hence the synod. It is the ideal the Church aspires to... it may take years to get there, but the very fact that what was supposed to be a 'given' is at least now a 'goal' shows that we are beginning to look at the cracks. Ultimately listening must become an attitude. We pray and be the change we want to see. God bless

I'm listening, listening and listening. But, whenever I hear the word "Matter" all I can think about is all the liberal vocabulary, "Matter" movements and liberal politics in the United States. I think the church doesn't need to change, but rather go back to the traditional ways. Synod mission writes about becoming a new church for the third millennium, I don't like the sound of that. Sounds like Vatican 3 is coming. I guess I'll keep praying for wisdom and a new conservative pope.

The Church has done plenty of "listening" to the perverse Modern world. It's time for the Modernist bishops to start preaching the full and authentic Gospel of Jesus Christ. Souls are falling into hell because of the contradictory, confusing anti-gospel being preached from Rome.

The Church went through this 25 years ago. The result: nothing came of it. Parish committees spent 1.5 yrs. to 2.0 yrs. working on these themes only to have all the plans discarded. Let's hope this one comes to more fruition.

As for the 2 year synod for the whole church it has been known to me in this first week of March 2022 bulletin , by my rough guess about one quarter of the way into the 2 year synod's time frame. The Church used to teach the Doctrine of the truth of the gospels, so, why does it need to listen to anything else, least of all mankind's views or ideologies. Anything that deviates from the truth revealed by Jesus Christ does not come from Devine Revelation and is totally disconnected from GOD ALMIGHTY Himself.

Look at the history of the Catholic Church. There have always been meetings to make decisions about its future. This is not a new concept. How do you think anything was decided upon in the first instance? It was the baptised within the church that assembled the church through the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit forever helps to build and maintain his church. God doesn’t let his kingdom stagnate or become dilapidated. The church throughout its history has made changes. This is how the church has always operated.

To maintain the church we need to teach the truth and the full truth of the Gospels. That has not been taught properly these days. In some cases it's only half truths or deviations from truth. The second point you made is the Holy Spirit who guides and protects the church and its Doctrine. Now we all know this fundamental fact, although I sometimes wonder about some clergy and even hierarchy when they seem to not be speaking from truths established by The Holy Spirit in Revelation. This is why I pointed out about man's ideologies and how we don't need to listen to them but rather to The Holy Spirit who revealed The Gospels.

@@johnjoyce1958 We are not a Protestant church who took the Catholic Bible, removed some of its content and said heck to everything else. The Catholic Church is made of 3 components; the Bible, the Magisterium and Tradition. The Synod comes under Tradition and part of the Tradition keeps changing according to the times, Pope, prophesies, revealed/discovered truths etc. This has always happened throughout the history of the Catholic Church. It’s not anything new. The Catholic Church is also responsible for 1.3 billion baptised Catholics who are also responsible for evangelising non Catholics. That is our mission. Assemblies such as Synods and Councils have to happen every so often to solve problems and make improvements and in order for this to happen, the people of God are required to work together in unity to build up God’s Kingdom. There have always been problems with the Catholic Church, there are still problems and there will be problems in the future (like with any other organisation) so Synods and Councils like Business meetings are a necessary activity to ensure an organisation runs smoothly, ethically, and according to its mission while continuously making improvements along the way. In order to move forward, in a Christ like manner, the people of God have to gather together to discuss what is currently happening, what the issues are, why they are happening and to find solution in the light of Christ. It’s our duty to participate, then let go and let God. Trust that the Holy Spirit is guiding the Synod. Pope Francis who has been given the keys to God’s kingdom on earth said that the Holy Spirit is the protagonist in this Synod so let’s believe that and not fight it.
