I love my Synology nas. Hardware is only 1/2 of the equation, and Synology has great software too! A great combination.

I've been thinking about a QNAP, with 2 drives. Alas, I have also heard good things about Synology...
@landpet3 ай бұрын
I don't have any experience with QNAP other than my friend having one. I've generally been happy with Synology, they are typically fast and have worked well. My first Synology was the DS214play back in 2014, ran that for about 10 years without issue before giving it to a friend a few months ago. I'm hoping I can run this one for a while as well. My DS220+ have been working well for the past 4 years.

Hey man Really loved your video. Just a quick question, can I save a 2 tb of file size in the shared folders?
@landpet2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I don't have a single file that is that large in size however looking at the info from synology: Yes, according to www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/6.2/software_spec/dsm , it can take a single file size of up to 16TB for the ext4 file system or BTRFS file system

elo sir, why my NAS 923+ transfer speed 247 Mbytes/sec only even put ssd nvme 970 evo plus and alreay Synology E10622-T1-Mini 10gbps and already cache it too? my port LAN mobo is 10gbps and cable LAN cat 6e
@landpet2 ай бұрын
Hello, Maybe a typo, there is no Cat6e. Either Cat5E, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat7 or Cat8. Cat5E and Cat6 are not rated for 10Gbps Cat6A, Cat7 and Cat8 can support up to 10Gbps Also are you directly connected to the synology or is your synology connected to a 10Gbps switch? Mine was connected to my 10Gbps switch, my computer was connected to the same 10Gbps switch, hence the fast speeds.

maybe i dont use RAID like u because iam using single disk only (SHR)

@@landpet maybe i dont make all my HDD to one volume, it saperate volume, i got volume 1 for HDD 12tb, volume 2 for 10tb and volume 3 for 14tb, i thought that case maybe

Is SHR2 any better than SHR?
@landpet12 күн бұрын
SHR2 offers more redundancy at the cost of more drives. So it’s the safer choice with the drawback that it takes more hard drives to provide the same amount of space. Heres a much more detailed breakdown by Gemini: SHR1 (Synology Hybrid RAID 1) Advantages: Offers one-disk redundancy, meaning it can withstand the failure of a single drive without data loss. Provides a good balance between performance and protection, especially for smaller NAS setups with fewer drives. More flexible in terms of drive capacity mixing. Disadvantages: Less protection than SHR2, as only one drive failure is tolerated. Not ideal for large NAS systems with many drives, as the risk of multiple drive failures increases. SHR2 (Synology Hybrid RAID 2) Advantages: Offers two-disk redundancy, meaning it can withstand the failure of two drives simultaneously without data loss. Provides higher levels of data protection, making it suitable for critical data storage and larger NAS systems. Can handle more complex drive configurations and larger storage pools. Disadvantages: Requires a minimum of four drives to function. Lower usable storage capacity compared to SHR1 due to the additional redundancy overhead. Less flexible in terms of drive capacity mixing, as it requires drives of similar size for optimal performance. When to Choose SHR1: You have a smaller NAS with fewer drives (typically 4 or less). You prioritize performance over maximum data protection. You have a less critical data storage environment. When to Choose SHR2: You have a larger NAS with more drives (typically 5 or more). You prioritize data protection over performance. You have a critical data storage environment where data loss is not acceptable. Additional Considerations: Backup Strategy: Regardless of the RAID type you choose, it's crucial to have a robust backup strategy in place. RAID is not a backup solution and cannot protect against human error, malware, or natural disasters. Drive Selection: Choose reliable drives from reputable manufacturers to minimize the risk of drive failures. Synology NAS Model: Consider the specific features and capabilities of your Synology NAS model when choosing a RAID type. Some models may have limitations or restrictions on the supported RAID types. By carefully considering your specific needs and requirements, you can choose the right RAID type for your Synology NAS and ensure the safety and reliability of your data.

I don't like how Synology NAS phones home al the time to report on my activity. I looking for something that doesn't spy on me, for now I've blocked it's access to the internet,
