I'm not surprised at all: if you crimp cables yourself, you'll see that it's the same eight little Copper wires - there is not much one can do differently with those. The only difference is whether it's shielded or unshielded twisted pair. Category 5 cables work just fine everywhere, and work even better if they are shielded.

Very interesting! It would also be interesting to know if Cat 5 cables interfere with each other when many are stuck next to each other in a switch or patch panel.

To be honest, I don't know if the short distance cable speed is true or not, but I do have a Cat 6e ethernet cable that runs from the Fiber Optic modem to the a 10Gb/s switch which is about 30 feet away if not maybe abit more. Which goes into another 10GB switch to split to more computers are I am getting the full speed of my Fiber at home which is 3GB/s I hit speed 3.2Gb/s both down and up. So the setup is this: Fiber Modem - Switch 10Gb/s split to 3 computers - Then from that switch to another 10GB/s switch connected with each other with 6.5 feet feet apart using a 10G SFP+ Twinax Cable - Then from the last switch its connected to 3 of my devices - PC (which also uses a 10G SFP+ card) - Mac Mini M4 (which connected to the switch with regular 2.5GB/s ethernet port) - Android Box (which is also connected with a regular 2.5GB/s ethernet port) All using Cat 6e and 10G SFP+ Twinax Cable

Back when I had a Vonage internet phone, the head unit was on a short 6"? 12"? cable. Horrific crackling interference. Upgraded to a fancy new CAT 7 for the shielding. Clean as a whistle. It is unclear to me if the cable was picking up interference or generating some into the unit. But that is at least one use case for a better shielded cable other than long runs. This makes me wonder if short patch cables from a 48 key patch panel sardining into a 48 port switch cares about interference?

Now get a two meter of each, then a three meter cable of each and show us again. THEN the ratings might begin to rear their ugly heads.

Good to know that CAT5 is still in business, no matter what. And why not? 4 pairs of cable is still 4 pairs. Not 2 like long ago for 10-100 Mbps connections.

Ethernet goes way up to like 800Gb. Look up mellanox connectx-7. 100gb ethernet has become extremely common in just the last year.

-- You should not purchase CAT 7 -- that not iso-standard... only industries standard. However, should do 10 Gbits/s just fine… They are typically equivalent to CAT 6a. -- No reason to purchase CAT 8 -- unless you have 40 Gbits/s equipment. At 10 Gbits/s, CAT 6 should work until 55 meters... and 6a to 100 Meters At 10 Gbits/s CAT 5e should be good for 35 to 45 meters. Digital cable either work or they don't. Should not change speed unless they downgrade to 1 Gbits/s. Regarding CAT 5, you need very old cable as manufacturer still produce them but with the CAT 5e specification. Essentially, newer CAT 5 and CAT5e are the same thing for at least 5 years.

I wonder if the other streamers can download apps that have all free sports, tv shows and movies etc. like the fire devices can, we pay for a lot of streaming services but i find myself watching the the free apps more often because they cut out the commercials and the quality is excellent as well.

Try a realistic configuration with the computers in separate rooms. I don't really see a need for more than a gigabit. I know one man who only tests with some Internet services, which involve many variables, and concluded that his network is worse than wlan, and bought some dongle thingies. FileZilla Server will usually max the speed out and give a practical result.

You do realize that traditional Category 5 cable only has four conductors in it right? It sends on one and two and it receives on 3 and 6 which would give you a 100 megabit connection. You cannot get more than 100 megabits out of Cat5. Cat5e however is 8 conductors, and that's where you have more speed up to 10Gbps but not at any distance
@bigjohn2811Күн бұрын
If you have CAT 5e in your house, it will probably 10 gb without a problem. If installing new cable, then use cat 6. It doesn't cost much more than 5e, $25 to $50 more for 1,000 foot bulk roll. Use 6a if need to guarantee 10gb connection in a noisy environment or very long cable runs.

@Chris_In_TexasКүн бұрын
Just an FYI short distance you can pretty much do about any speed over coat hangers. Its all about crosstalk at longer distances. Otherwise the tests are worthless. Just an FYI that Cat7/8 aren't based on RJ45 so those are bogus. Also the 350MHz CAT5e is actually rated for 2.5G @ 100M and 5G @ 100M. So.... While it was a good attempt, you need to retest at 100 meters long. That is where you will tell the differences. Also your 10GBaseT equipment would also need to be rated for 100M at 10G as well, some are only rated for 30-50M in length, just like the difference between 6 and 6A.

Isn't all ethernet/UTP equipment set to same protocol 100m? As I understand 100m cooper is standard not because of voltage drop because of electric resistance then because of timing. Timing in communication line between two nodes is essential in order to prevent collisions in line.

Ethernet can go up to 800Gbps. You’re confusing Ethernet with “Ethernet over twisted pair” or Base-T, Base-Ten
@wantikjasonchiu4711Күн бұрын
That is correct with some exceptions that the Nvidia shield TV Pro has two USB ports when other others either have only one or even not any and so you need to use a USB dongle to even connect other devices like a USB camera.

Similarly, if you have other devices that is not the box but like an LG TV or Samsung TV, you can do the same thing that you can use the TV to operate the smart home appliances at your home either with LGthinQ or Samsung smart things, even though they don’t really have a streaming box, but you can do the same thing, but even more because they even have produced washing machines, refrigerators, and other things that any other company like Google and Amazon doesn’t really make, but they can be smart home devices as well not just alarm systems and cameras

I’m not sure did you know about it but on all the devices that can actually have installed the Google TV OS they can actually all of them have an app that is released by Google that is called live channels that you can actually connect a USB converter to antenna to watch exactly the TV channels that you can get from your wall without a third-party app

Cat 6/6a it's more than enough for end user, it can even handle 10g up to 100m, if you need more than that (longer distances or faster bit rate) then go fiber

As you can see when you look at the On remote and the remote for the Amazon fire cube is that both remotes can actually control not just the TV volume, but also the channel up and down controls for traditional television channels that just works in a way like a normal television remote that came with your TV.

Also only the remote for the standard model and the pro model for the Nvidia shield are the two ones that have a shape of the remote and the device itself that is not the same as the design of a normal TV remote because one is flat not boxed like and the other one is a tube cylinder shape, for the remote it looks like a Toblerone chocolate bar.

1) CAT5e was a change in the testing standard and not necessarily in the cable manufacture. 2) Most (except the crappiest) CAT5 will test fine as CAT5e 3) 10GBASE-T was designed with CAT5 in mind 4) CAT5e is good for 10GB/s up to 45m (about 148ft) 5) As CAT5 and 5e are about the same, expecting 10Gb/s speeds up to 150ft on CAT5 is not too crazy. There is also STP cable (Shielded), which can improve matters, BUT every connection, cable, and item in the path must be STP. Put one UTP item in the path, and the whole path may as well be UTP.
