Actually had the similar problem with the DS1815+. The unit did not turn on after shutting it down. Power supply was working but the power button did not work anymore. Luckily I found some guy who told me that there is a problem with the power supply delivering a wrong voltage at some rail. This lead to the death of the replaced transistor. So to fix the problem one also needs to change a voltage divider in the power supply - or the transistor will be death again after some time.

There is a resistor on the power supply labeled 392 which means it's 3.9kohm and replacing it with a 103 which is 10kohm will do the trick.

Hello, would you happen to repair DS1520+ as well? No power at all. If so, would the repair cost be the same as 1515+?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Жыл бұрын
Hello, I have not yet fixed a DS1520+ you are the first to request a repair for that model. I don't believe the fault would be the same as the DS1515+, but that's okay, I have fixed many other Synology units with different types of faults as well. The repair cost would be the same as the DS1515+ if I am successful in the repair. A 1-year warranty would also be provided with the repair. If I am not able to repair the unit there would be a minimal bench fee and shipping cost. If you have any additional questions, I would recommend you reach out directly to my email support@nickstvs.com as I am not always able to see notifications and new comments on the KZbin comment section for all videos. Thank you

Hello, The DS916+ is different than the DS1515+. The first thing I would recommend trying is to replace the CMOS battery. After that, I don't know because I haven't worked on a DS916+ before. I would need to perform several troubleshooting tests and hook up some specialized equipment to it to know more. If you want to send it in, we can try fixing it on camera and make a video out of it. Just send me a message directly or fill out the contact form in the video description.

Have you encountered a problem where the power adapter is good (green LED turns on when adapter is plugged into wall power outlet) but when plugged into the DS720+ NAS, the green LED on the power adapter turns OFF immediately? Then when I tried to turn ON the NAS, it would not turn ON at all. When I unplugged the power adapter from the NAS, its green LED indicator turns back ON. Thanks.

You could have a bad power brick or a short on the power line inside the NAS. My guess is that it's more likely the NAS MOBO has a short but it's a lot easier and cheaper to swap out the power brick. Unfortunately can't really give you more info without looking at the unit myself.

Hello, Yes, we are still doing repairs for these. I have a few things for you here. The first thing I want to mention is that this video was our very first Synology repair. We have gotten much better at these repairs and have learned a lot since this video 10 months ago. We have now a new much more comprehensive repair video you can check out below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aV7MfYCjbNWji6Msi=iBw78VSwfZYLd2rg In the video, we are doing the DS1815+ but it is the same process as the DS1515+. The reason I share this one is because I want to let you know everything we do in that video will be done to your unit when you send it in. As for repair costs, we have a flat rate service, and for the shipping cost I can't give you that information without your address but I will tell you how you can get that information. I will provide you with a link to our service below, click on the link to the repair, add the service to your cart, and proceed to checkout. Input your home or business address, once you do this you will get shipping quotes with different shipping speed options. Please keep in mind the shipping quote is for us to send the unit back to you post-repair and does not include the cost for you to send the unit out to our repair facility. nickselectronics.com/products/DS1515 If you have any additional questions regarding the repair service or process, please get in touch with us directly. Our contact information is in the video description, or you can navigate to our website via the link provided and get our contact info from our Contact Us page or fill out the contact form.

If you never got around to fixing this and it's just gathering dust, look up local repair cafes. I volunteer at a few ones near me (I'm in the UK but it's a worldwide thing) and this is the kind of thing we'd do for free. If we don't have the parts then it's down you to buy them, but come back next time and we'll finish the job off. A donation towards the community hall hire is welcomed, but if you can bring it in, we'll take a look. If I know in advance that certain parts are needed then I'll make sure I take some in - I have more components than I'll ever use in my lifetime.

I have a DS1815+ in the same condition, after finding out how to fix it and the parts I need, I'm insecure about which wattage (thermal loss capacity) resistors I should take. I'm not an expert in electronics, but I have done a few odd soldering jobs in my life.
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Жыл бұрын
Hello, We use a 1-watt resistor, I do believe you can use 1/2 a watt as well as I think that is what Synology did for the later versions of these devices. If you aren't sure about the repair and would rather have us do it, we do have a full service available. We would install the resistor for you but also have a full refurbishing service where we would also replace several other parts that are known to commonly fail, and may be near their end of life. We also do a modification to the power supply which will reduce the risk of further faults to the motherboard. I do have a more in-depth video on this in a follow-up video I did on our other electronics repair channel which I will link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqq8k3ugdpKVptUsi=Xz8zvOaGkZ6jzSsM If you have any other questions make sure to post a new comment because unfortunately I don't get notifications to replies, I only get a notification for new comments. (not sure how to change that)

@@NicksTVRepair hmm, I usually get alerts when anyone mentions me directly, although that may depend on whether I'm subscribed to a channel. Thank you for offering your services, but I think to send the parts over from Germany is a bit excessive. The DS1815+ is sitting in a wardrobe gathering dust ever since it got hit by an "unexpected powerloss" some 4 years ago. Since I didn't want to wait for any repairs I got me a DS1817+ and just chucked the old disks in. The device was already out of regular warranty and both the vendor and Synology where less than enthusiastic to honour the extended warranty granted because of the Atom bug. So I sort of frustratingly gave up on that. I only learned of the fix just now, while looking into upgrading the DS1817+ with 10GigE and bigger disks. So I though that is a nice project to try, I can't make it worse.

I have a Synology DS 916+ that shut down, and only the Status LED is slowly blinking. If I press/hold the power button, the fan starts for a second, shuts off, and the blue power led never comes on at all, and no drive lights come on. Anyone know if this is the chip described above or something else? I've tried unplugging unit power for an hour but same results. I tried while off, pulling drives and trying to start but again same results.

Sorry I haven't really worked on the DS916+ to much, you could have an issue with your power brick, you could have an issue with your mobo. Darren, Glad you liked the video. I actually remade this video and am in the process of editing it. Should post in about two weeks. (already have a couple other videos in the pipeline first) With this video here we didn't have the customers entire unit but we did get one from eBay with similar faults. We did actually a few additional repairs and go more in depth as to why this fault occurs and how to prevent it in the future. Its going to be a good one. Standby for it!

@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 10 ай бұрын
When you say stopped turning on, what symptoms exactly are you experiencing? Is it completely dead no turning on or does it have power but the blue light is initializing endlessly not allowing the unit to turn on fully. Does it turn on and then back off? There are many ways these units can fail. The more infomration you can provide me with the better able to answer your question I will be. You said there was a blackout. To me that sounds like you just lost power. Loosing power doesn't negatively affect devices unless they were actively updating software or firmware. What affects devices are power surges. Was there a power surge? PS don't reply to this comment as I don't get a notification to replies. Send me a new comment or contact us directly via the contact form in the video description.

My Synology has the exact same symptoms ... It was off-power for several hours today and won't boot up now. I already had a similar issue a few times but somehow I always managed to get it back to life. I think this time it will not magically repair itself 😥
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Жыл бұрын
Power cycling often helps, software updates are also always recommended, but sometimes hardware does fail and in those instances you will have to either replace components or send it to a shop to do the repairs. The video is actually several months old, we since then have started working on more of these and have a flat rate service if you are interested. It is very affordable comparatively to replacing the unit.
