I have a 207 from 2009 - and it kept working brilliantly for years on end. Really good thing. I installed it in my cellar. Although I now use dropbox for backuping my data at home. If you have a need for backups, it's a really good device.

Your video is very informative and I bought a DS220+ for Plex and for backups. I am trying to follow your guide as close as possible in order to do things the right way, as I have never owned or used a NAS before. I just want to use it for my plex, internal network and not external access and for backup of all my PCs at home. This being the case, I am a bit confused as to How I should go about doing the storage pool and volume. I want to use one of my 8 TB drives for Plex movies and the other 8 TB drive for backup of the drives. So do I use SHR, although I do not want to mirror anything? or do I select SHR and do two volumes?

I have created a shared folder on the NAS and mapped it to Z : on my PC and I want to use this folder to be my main working folder for photo editing with photoshop and luminar. I also want to be able to show those photos on my TV on the same network but the TV will only see the 3 Media Server created folders "photo", "video" and "music". Absolutely fantastic. I was so puzzled by various setups because I do use a NAS from 2015, but that is a simple My Cloud from WD> I upgraded to this 720+ after watching your reviews and unboxing videos.... and I am glad I made that choice. My only concern is : My MacBP Says Synology assistant needs to be updated and I cannot use it from my MBP. However, I am able to use the Web Interface and it is okay for the time being. I loved the way you have explained various choices on RAID. Thank you so much. Would love to see your other videos on how to set up backups and sync and media servers. Hi, this is a very good tutorial for a first time installation. Wish I had seen this kind of tutorial some years ago when I set up my first NAS. Now I replaced my old NAS 1513+ with a 1520+ and just transferred my old set-up, which I now regret. It has one storage pool and one volume and five hard disks. Last week I installed a service called Roon Audio which recommends to put the Roon server on a separate volume on a SSD drive. I want to free up one disk, replace it with a ssd drive and make a volume 2 on it. I could not find how to do this. My alternative strategies are: 1. Start a fresh installation (I have a backup of all data); 2. Find a way to change the current installation from one volume into two volumes. 3. Keep a sub-optimal installation (from the Roon server perspective). After hours of internet searching I did not find a clear solution. Do you have an advice which strategy to follow and how to execute it? Thanks, Eric de Jong, Netherlands

Is there a possibility to create a folder that can only be reached via your local network and not via the internet? For example map1 that I can access anywhere via my mobile or pc ad my moms home. but I can only access Map2 when I am on my wifi or cabeld network at home. So that if my account were hacked, people wouldn't be able to access this data from map2 from outside?

It's my first time setting up a NAS system and I would not have been able to do it if not for this video (considering the manual from synology wasn't very helpful). Three weeks ago I set up a DS420+ running DSM 7.0. I have the two Ethernet ports bonded using LACP. If I go to Control Panel/Network/Network Interface and look at the Bond1 interface it tells me that the MTU is 1500, both for the bond and for the individual interfaces. I cannot find anywhere to change this, the edit button just lets me choose different protocols for bonding the ports. I would like to be able to use Jumbo Frames; is this not possible?
