Great work as always. I was falling asleep to this video so just a algo comment now before the rewatch. At least Synopsys, Cadence and Broeadcom will find their way in my portfolio on the next dip.LAM, KLA are some hot candidates too.

Yeah, Synopsys has a long history of acquiring other businesses. Ansys is the biggest one so far. I’m pretty sure they will achieve some of the cost/revenue synergies they’re targeting.

Would it make sense to buy Ansys, wait a year, receive half the proceeds in Synopsys stock. Then use the cash to buy Synopsys stock. Would this be cheaper than buying Synopsys shares right now

Very good question. I think that’s a merger arbitrage strategy. I have never tried this strategy myself, but it makes sense to buy Ansys below its implied acquisition price: “The implied per share consideration of $390.19, based on the closing price of Synopsys common stock of $559.96 as of December 21, 2023, represents a premium of approximately 29% over Ansys’ closing stock price on December 21, 20235 and a premium of approximately 35% to Ansys’ 60-day volume-weighted average price for the period ending on the same date. Under the terms of the agreement, Ansys shareholders are expected to own approximately 16.5% of the combined company on a pro forma basis.”
