Syntakt | Can it Buchla ? | West Coast Synth Inspired

I'm back with another Syntakt video, I'm working on a new sound pack for the Syntakt exploring the west coast synthesis end of the spectrum. some of the sounds are inspired by my love for modular synths and the west coast approach to sound design and patch programming brought to light by composers like Morton Subotnick. This sound pack will feature and library of west coast synth-inspired sounds and will also come with a few sequences so you can see what's going on under the hood. I'll be doing a deep dive sound design, and generative sequencing tutorial on / voltagectrlr as well as giving my supporters a free version of the sound pack/sequences. I enjoy pushing this instrument outside of the confines of just being a groove box.

It's a great all around synth, it's easy to just jump in and get inspired to jam and create, but you can also dig in and do a little sound design and intricate programing.

Wanting a modular system has been on my mind lately, but I think since I already have the digitone, syntakt, digitakt trinity that they will do fine for me and get that modular thing going like in this video! Nice video!

The first 'Can it Buchla' video was made with the Digitone! That's the instrument that got me into approaching it like a modular synth, it had a lot of the same function blocks that I had in my modular, so I started working on patch ideas on the digitone and i would later translate them into a modular synth patch and the other way around as well. nice sounds. it does sound like a krell patch at times, as somebody stated. it's cool to see/hear a focus on shaping the basic sounds; their plasticity and potential....as opposed to endless electro, cookie cutter patterns. def hearing some things that could pass for the classic, substantive, fm'd & wavefolded (inharmonic *thonk*) perc. sounds of lpg'd voice(s)

thanks for listening, yes you totally get my perspective. I want to show the range of these instruments, the only limitations are the ones we put on things. Just because an instrument is marketed as a groove box, doesn't mean it's not capable of other things. you comment got me thinking... maybe I should do a comparison video with a few of my low pass gates in the modular vs. the sounds I design in the Syntakt, do a blind test video. It would be fun for all my fellow sound designers and synth lovers.

The Syntakt can totally can do a whole soundtrack! It has a lot of range. Everything in my studio runs through my pre amps and a little compression. Best of luck on your journey to Syntakt land.

You can get some really great pings with the impulse machine and high resonance. You managed to get some pretty convincing bongos w/o a lpg. Respect 🫡
