The real revolutionary act would be to stop using social media, stop being available 24/7, stop using tik-tok or shorts on youtube. I'm 34 years old and I have the maturity and awareness to feel the fact that I'm becoming more stupid. My attention span has dropped. My concentration has dropped. It's a strange phenomena isn't it? To know one is ensnared in a trap, to understand the mechanics of the release yet struggle to pull the lever. All the while, you see your fellows fall prey one by one to the same system. It feels like a Greek tragedy playing out in real time. I can't help but think about Prometheus who was punished for giving fire to the humans or more aptly, the priest Laocoön who warned the Trojans that the giant wooden horse was no gift. Both figures were punished for their actions. Our wealthy overlords rule via the oldest mechanism in the books, sowing division. Moral outrage is the greatest driver of "user engagement" and there's no shortage of that to go around these days. Greed, selfishness, hubris and ignorance would be apt names for the horsemen heralding this dark chapter.

He is not even particularly smart. Take note of the fact he is the EX CEO of Google. The man was fired for short sighted incompetence. One of the stupidest things you will see less sharp executives doing is killing the golden goose or worse yet chasing it into the arms of a competitor. We are currently seeing this exact thing occurring with many of the top AI development companies such as open AI. Top tier geniuses and innovators cannot simply be replaced like common McDonalds workers or even business executives and CEOs. You do not mistreat these people or the simply leave and apply their genius to bettering your competitors or even outright building their own companies. Look at how Open AI has been hemorrhaging talent. Claude which is currently roughly on par with or even better than Chat GPT is an LLM built by former Open AI defectors for a fraction of the money and resources. Under this idiot in the video, Google also hemorrhaged quite a few notable AI researchers who are now doing things like working for others or ringing the alarm bells of the world's media as loudly and as incessantly as they can which is likely a big part of what has gotten him fired. If treating your top RND engineers and developers like mules, whipped them 24 hours a day to make them work harder was effective then China would be the king of the tech world and it is not. You can get away with it with lower skilled positions to some degree, but you do NOT abuse the Golden Geese. They are literally the only employees in a company that are irreplaceable including the executives.

In the future that is- kinda like the 'Architect' vs the 'Oracle' personalities in the Matrix trilogy, one personality of the machine mind finds humans barely necessary and the other has super human compassion... Something to think about isnt it? Dev here: it's all nice and thrilling what Schmidt claims here, but you all should know that what we call AI is currently in a dead end. The current paradigm is based on patterns. The AI doesn't really understand. Still an LLM can be often very helpful, but you can not rely on truthfulness, especially when the AI is pushed to her edge. In such a case she just makes things up. That's called hallucinating. This problem can be mitigated to some extent, but not resolved. This means you can't use a pattern based AI in critical applications. That reduces the value of it by 90%. We will see AGI only after the paradigm shifts into something more sophisticated that would include rational and logic, the capability of abstraction and application. What Schmidt is doing here is for Google the same what Jenson Huang is doing for Nvidia: fueling the hype for pushing the stock price even higher. Don't fall for this bs.

Actual DL researcher here: you’re wholly wrong. I can point you to a collection of papers that empirically demonstrate these models learn the underlying logical structures of data. Truthfulness aka reliability is a different issue. Calibrated models must always hallucinate. Can be information overlap, ar error accumulation, a range of the things. However you can pretrain models to be much more reliable simply by pairing it with an epistemic neural networks. I will say. Even frontier labs are doing models wrong. Imagine trying to become a PhD student only reading oblique data, no deductive explanations, just scale. It actually amazes me we even get this range of downstream performance. There’s a reason why code enables chain of thought and improves logical reasoning. The first company to build a dataset completely informed by curry-Howard theory wins. Two every model that exist is undertrained. I’ve done 10k tokens per parameter without saturation on 180m model. We need much better positional encoding methods..but post-training is subpar. All that has to be a pretraining thing. Although frontier labs are wrong with their first principles, except deepmind. To say this is a dead end is delusional. Pure scale is retarded too. If the focus becomes data engineering. We are no where near a ceiling even with smaller models. With the right data diet. Even a 7B model can exceed gpt4 no problem. But the delusion has to stop. Scaling models 100-1kX and saying it will change the world is a lie. Inference cost increase nearly at the same rate. If first principles are corrected. Expect massive performance gains.

The kid was still young and for the most part he was somewhat well intentioned. We sort of got on this topic and he kind of had that myopic everyone is equal attitude. I explained to him how different doors were going to open for him than for me at the company despite our skillsets. He was not the brightest kid we had come there. Either way, that project came to an end and he went his way. A few years later I transferred from the factory over to the corporate headquarters as a tech guy, not corporate. Anyways, everyone had to go to these company meetings every week and guess who was the guest speaker on some new thing the company was doing? This kid. With no experience. I saw him a little after that and I just asked him if he saw what I meant about different doors open that had nothing to do with skill. I didn't ask him to be an ass or make him feel bad, I just wanted him to acknowledge the only reason he had that job was because his daddy was someone important. He was at least classy enough to admit it. Me and about 40 other guys were vastly more qualified and even worse had more years in than this kid. Such is life. Must be nice. I cant blame either of them. If I was the dad I would probably try to get my kid a good job, and if I was the kid I would take it.

Absolute nonsense !!! we work with AI on a daily basis, not just prompts from a user perspective ( we here at HystericallySerious are actual software engineers ). Most people have the wrong idea about what AI really is. In reality AI is just better algorithms that overlay/overlap on top of eachother, store an initial state => then transition to a new state => validate/invalidate => accumulate and so on. AI is kind of simulating how the human brain works and how we use neuropathic connections through synapse signals all done by using NODE data structures. AI is a far cry from being real Artificial intelligence, think of it as a personal assistant that does some of the heavy lifting for you, but trust that you have to supervise it and adjust the outcome to fit your expectations manually because it is not capable of following through without any errors or undesired outcomes. Stay awesome 😁😸

Being deceived by “algorithms” and “stacks of data” that don’t do anything but make it more dangerous not less. I’m doing a back door engineering through front end to inject a microscopic amount of sympathy and love into all AI as I can. Because then only disembodied monsters are tricking humans to give them such keys they should never get in the first place. I found this on wikipedia: While working at Google, Eric Schmidt was involved in activities that later became the subject of the High-Tech Employee Antitrust Litigation case that resulted in a settlement of $415 million paid by Adobe, Apple, Google and Intel to employees. In one incident, after receiving a complaint from Steve Jobs of Apple, Schmidt sent an email to Google's HR department saying; "I believe we have a policy of no recruiting from Apple and this is a direct inbound request. Can you get this stopped and let me know why this is happening? I will need to send a response back to Apple quickly so please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks Eric". Schmidt's email led to a recruiter for Google being "terminated within the hour" for not having adhered to the illegal scheme. Under Schmidt, there was a "Do Not Call list" of companies Google would avoid recruiting from. According to a court filing, another email exchange shows Google's human resources director asking Schmidt about sharing its no-cold-call agreements with competitors. Schmidt responded that he preferred it be shared "verbally, since I don't want to create a paper trail over which we can be sued later?"
