Queen Charlotte herself is mixed and King George is fully white, so it makes sense that some of their children simply look white depending on each child’s genetic mix. It’s a normal occurrence.

Charlotte didn’t realize that the England ton only became integrated because of her. For all she knew England has been this way for centuries. She has been kept without knowledge since she got there. Princess Augusta respects Lady Danbury as a worthy adversary. I had a discussion with my 20 year old daughter about Lord and Lady Danbury. She said that since Agatha was groomed from toddlerhood, she could never actually consent to that relationship.

I agree. Also, in that time period women were seen as property and either owned by a male relative (usually the father) or a husband. So a wife could not refuse a husband sex. It was seen as his right to have sex with his wife, whether she wanted to or not. So consent wasn't really a thing back then or recognised as something that should be obtained before sex. So glad that isnt the case anymore and women have rights and bodily autonomy.

The scribbles on the wall was made by one of the talented graphics people in our department as well. It was thought out and designed by her. That wall could actually be removed and swapped for a clean version of it. We don't shoot chronologically so they had to swap the walls a couple of times. A lot of the stuff we make you don't really see. For example, when her brother signs the marriage contract, one of the graphic designers actually wrote a full marriage contract for the time. Then I did financial papers that showed the privileges she was going to have to go along with the contract. I also did a version of it in German. They're on the table but you don't see them. When Lord Danbury gets his estate and he is holding a piece of paper, if you opened that paper you'd see an actual text I drafted that said he now owns the estate. A lot of research goes into it of course but we really do create a whole world for them to live in because we never know what will be seen and what won't. I will also say, the actress who plays young Lady Danbury is probably one of the most beautiful people I've seen. Her face is flawless.

Scholars are divided on what mental illnesses King George suffered from, and their theories range from bipolar disorder to schizophrenia to porphyria (a blood disorder that affects the nervous system). Later on, he developed dementia and eventually became blind and deaf before his death. However, in an interview with the actor who plays young George, he said there was a conscious decision to “not diagnose George” so it seems like there’s just a mashup of symptoms portrayed here. Either way, the portrayal is so heartbreaking and also terrifying as we see what George went through in seeking out treatment.

It also made me sad, even though they at least got to experience love. Their lives are in a way not their own. Brimsley sacrificed his independence to be the queen's man, and even though she appreciates him in a way, it is very clear she doesn't acknowledge him as an individual being with dreams of his own. This was of course a very common way for the wealthy to see servants and others staff.

29:55 what Charlotte and others did not know back then was that George was suffering from bipolar disorder and in his later years dementia on top of that. Back then they assumed he was "mad" and for a long time historians believed he suffered from a condition called porphyria. a rare hereditary liver disease in which hemoglobin is abnormally metabolized and Instead Porphyrins are excreted in the urine, which becomes dark, sometimes a blue or purple color and produces other symptoms such as mental disturbances. In 1812 George III's medical records show that the king was given medicine based on gentian for his condition. This plant, with its deep blue flowers, is still used today as a mild tonic, but may turn the urine blue. Many historians now believe that it wasn't the king's porphyria that caused this most famous symptom. In fact many historians now like to put the record straight so to speak and state that he did not have that condition at all. Instead It could have simply been his medicine that caused that symptom and exacerbated his illness. Scientists have also found high levels of arsenic in the hair of King George III, which makes sense since part of his treatments included arsenic powder that was applied to his skin. Of cousrse this is a deadly poison and may have also contributed to his deteriorating condition

I loved this episode, Charlotte must realise at this point that George's illness is why he has been keeping his distance from her and from the rest of the Ton, he must feel ashamed and doesn't want to burden her with it. I think his distance also indicates that he does actually truly care for her, if he isn't himself when his illness flares up then he must want to protect her from that to avoid her getting hurt. I picked up on major Beauty and the Beast vibes after watching this ep!! I think Charlotte is exactly the kind of person he needs, as she is strong and loving and kind, in a world that has always put pressure on him. Loving your reactions to this show, I can't wait for you to see the rest of the story! 😊

Also Three scenes stood out to me the most this episode 1. Obviously the ending and I loved how Charlotte took his breakdown in stride and handled it. The 2nd scene being Lady Bridgertons mourning of her husband on his birthday because you just KNOW Anthony is somewhere suffering in silence as well, lol it was all I could think about in that scene because Anthony is my favorite character. The 3rd being Brimsleys talk with the queen about why her daughters never married, that was such a raw conversation that the Queen was not ready to hear but NEEDED to hear to better understand her children. It’s actually my favorite scene of the episode because of how REAL and RAW it felt.

Love your review. Charlotte was unaware that they had only integrated the Tin because of her. They never told her and when she saw the Black people at the Wedding she assumed it had always been like that. Although she is German, they lived in a small province so she may not have known Pomeranians are German. Also Charlotte is bi-racial. I suspect that may be why many of the children are more racially ambiguous. Think Megan and Prince Harry’s children. Can’t prove it but Princess Augusta’s remark about her being so brown was inspired by the remark that was made to Megan Markle. I’m so saddened by Lady Danbury’s loveless life but I’m more saddened by Queen Charlotte who is frozen in time waiting for George to get better.

No house of dragon no infidelity😂 it’s why love story of Charlotte and George was one for the ages, and I believe Charlotte was interracial. It’s unfortunate George like how Charlotte misunderstood his conversation with his mom, also misunderstood what Charlotte complained to Princess Augusta, it’s tough to watch his bipolar and neurological disorder spiral into darker moments. The reason that the kids have different skin tones and ‘do not all look biracial’ is that genetically speaking skin colour exhibits variable penetrance. That is to say that the children of parents of different races could look racially entirely like one parent or the other or anywhere in between. Given Queen Charlotte in the show is herself interracial and King George is white, their children are more likely to look white, although technically some could look darker than her.

Genetics is amazing. I am Jamaican. On my mother's side, my grandfather is Scottish (black, dark skinned), my grandmother is Jamaican (German and black but light enough to pass for white). My mother's brothers and sisters range from white passing to dark, though most of her light skinned siblings have more kinky hair and her darkest brother had straight hair which made people assume he was Indian not black. My father's parents were both black, though again, his mother with her gray eyes, straight hair and pale skin could be mistaken for Caucasian. Meanwhile, because of the way I look, Americans assume I'm either Puerto Rican or Dominican. 😮

The real King George did not want his daughters to marry foreign royalty and go away as his sisters were mistreated when this was done, and apparently they mostly were unable to find a match nearer home.

So, at that age she wouldn’t have understood the significance of her being in a position to help those who looked like her, as Lady Danbury was trying to explain to her. At 17, girls are self-absorbed and Charlotte was still trying to understand her husband. So I don’t think she was oblivious, she just didn’t have the maturity to think like she needed to. So bravo for Lady Danbury educating Charlotte!

Charlotte isn't all black. She is biracial... so her kids with a white man could come out white. Have you seen those twins that are one black one white? Biracial people carry the whole range of genes

I thought the look from Princess Augusta was like "props to you, then" kind of thing. Lady Danbury will only get anywhere if she breaks rules sometimes instead of waiting politely.

These stories are adapted from some spicy novels. Shonda adds her magic touch, but the books are pretty sexy in their own

Even in present day I've seen fully black and a white parent have a very white appearing child. I was surprised also that the singer Halsey is the same. My family has also had this happen in lines. Genetics is fascinating

As to why some if them do not look mixed.. plainly when you get a white person and you are black... you have no idea what will come out tbh. I had a classmate like that and she looked so white but she wasn't and some end up with blonde hair, blue eyes and all of the things that give you a indicator someone's white(besides looking at their skintone.) And given that the queen is light as it is, it is very likely that the children could be very light.. and with the extra white in there.. when I saw them I wasn't surprised tbh.

Love the videos. I am curious to how to create a reaction video, do you all have any tips or programs? I'm clueless to how to insert the show and record myself simultaneously.

I do not think Charlotte does not know she is black, I think she does not know yet that she is the QUEEN OF ENGLAND in the peak age of empire. She is a 17 year old girl from a princely family from a small province in Germany and is only thinking of it as getting married and having children as her duty. Lady Danbury opened her eyes to her potential power, if she has the guts to wield it intelligently. She can take that power away from her mother in law (only a princess) any time she choses IF she chooses. BTW on the all white children thing, I assume she is biracial herself because her father was a Prince of German province - almost certainly white. Children who are 1 quarter black might often pass. All 13 is a stretch though. Variety is what genetics generally would produce.

Their Dad is a white man so why would they all look biracial 😂 and their mom is black and white so it checks. You guys think Charlotte is fully black that’s why you don’t believe it but she isn’t. Charlotte is biracial y’all 🤣🤣

Genes is very tricky for example I got a sister that light skin and all my nephews and nieces are light skin (they look white) but my mama is dark skin and my sister father is dark skin… she got her color from her father mama Other example: actress Destiny Ryan mother is mixed race and her father is Jamaican/Africa and she and her brother take after their father (it’s really crazy how our body works) 🤯

Agreed, my husband and I are both light skinned and our son came out dark skinned. Both our mothers are dark skinned and he inherited it from them. It’s interesting how it works

Their kids look like Meghan and Harry's babies. Plus this is the same bloodline. Queen Charlotte is their direct ancestor.

I have heard it said that Queen Charlotte did have a moor ancestor but it was very far back in her lineage. So much so that the moor blood would be significantly diluted. Which would provide another explanation to the complexion of the kids.

In real life, King george never wanted his daughters to marry because his sisters were in awful marriages and didn't want them in the same situation.
