Finally snagged a Doom 2 a couple months back. I have to admit, I don't really love it as a straight-up fuzz, but it is sweet when coupled with an octaver or envelope filter. With the Doom 2 and a Micro-Tron 4 , I have finally been able to faithfully replicate the synthy-goodness of Hancock's Chameleon.

I had SO much fun with this vid! It was like hanging out with friends making sounds and creating…just seeing what fun ideas come up and what inspires. I also learned a little about how to better tweak some settings. So good…thanks for this one. 👍🏼

Like many of us, I first learned about both bass fuzz and bass synth by Juan Alderete from when he was in Bassplayer Magazine in the early 2000s and later on his KZbin channel. I’m now many a pedal later... 😄 Juan, although less visible now, still is a huge force of inspiration. Many other players followed in his footsteps for me. Like you, Janek. Although Juan never could/would love any pedal with a dry signal, I’ve come to learn that I really need that in the bands I’m in. That’s why I settled on fuzz and drive pedals by JAM Pedals (Rattler Bass is a must have!) and the old synth, modulation and crazier Multiwave distortion pedals by Source Audio (Soundblox 2) live. But, the pedal bug got me and my wallet, 😄. I’ve got loads and loads. Guitar pedals too. 🖖

I've had a Doom 2 for a couple of years now. It's definitely not a typical fuzz pedal and it has it's own thing that I haven't really heard in anything else. It's totally amazing in a synth chain and I even thought I don't use it on its own so much because either most of my pedals are on, or very few / none of them are, it's still plenty fun on it's own exactly because it's not the typical fuzz sound. If you want a typical fuzz, you just need one of those too!

When I got mine I was surprised that it didn't replace my gated square fuzz. It is a low gain, expressive fuzz for sure.

I really like the range of tones, grit and sonic splutter. The chords are filthy af. I have an old Rat, Green Muff and Micro synth in parallel with the dubby lows fat and clean but I still get smiles from our guitarist when I step on it all. 😎

Bass fuzz with a sub and/or filter is arguably a more flexible synth bass setup than a synth pedal

The bass knob is the dry bass, which you can toggle to be filtered down. The other toggle turns on the octave up. Reading the manual avoids confusion at the start but you can't go wrong with this one

Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been researching synth petals for the last year mixing and matching petals right now to get a pretty good sound, but I want a stand alone pedal.

What pedal were you using for the reverb?

i’m trying to figure out to mess with pedals when practicing, was wondering how do you go about deciding when to add your pedals into your practice time? when you do, are there specific things you are wanting to achieve or is some of it just a way to make noise and explore what you can do? thanks..
@janekgwizdala3 ай бұрын
There's never a moment when I decide to add pedals to a practice session. It's more about necessity than anything. I'll either hear something I can't create with the natural sound of the bass, or I'll be working on music that demands the use of pedals, and then the decision is kind of made for me as to when I need to work on using them.

3leaf Audio makes damn good pedals, it’s a shame they keep getting swept up by scalpers and resold at a 100-200% markup on Reverb
