Let's play with distortion! I show how I use the distortion effects on the Access Virus TI and Sequential Pro 2. From aggressive to cozy - distortion is great.

This was so fun! Love the format, the video length, the "hardstyle" mention. And it does sound like the guts of a good hardstyle beat at the Dirty EC and Pro 2 Distortion Free Play time-stamps. There's a little gabber in there too... And acid, obviously. Hope you're well. You sound it!

Yay! I thought you may like this one! It is nice hearing that I touched on those sounds from someone who is familiar with the music. I have not heard gabber since early 2000s! Haha Really happy to hear you like this and the formatting is good. I will eventually make a second part to all of my synth fun videos so you should hear another rendition at some point. Ooh, nice ending track. I must admit, I usually leave the VCA in my big synth in its “soft overdrive” mode; which is a very subtle distortion. It’s only for very complex modulations or high dynamic ranges I tend to turn it off (as the overdrive brings-out noise from the microcontroller inside). The heavy overdrive is good too, in the right situation, but is still only about half as heavy as you went here. I should look into distortion effects in Ableton to go harder.

The drive that I used to create the bass in the song is a soft-tube analog emulation (I think) on the Pro 2 and is placed right after the oscillators. I usually keep that at 12 in mono mode just for a little body though take it off for paraphonic mode. The oscillators don't sound great without it. The patch playing and segment mini-jams are all using the Pro 2's hard distortion which is at the very end of the signal chain (even after effects I think). I think mine were so aggressive due to the filter and its resonance. I had the resonance nearly maxed out for some of the parts. As for VST distortion, I have used Izotope Trash which is fantastic and all encompassing, Antares Tube and Nomad Factory Tube Screamer. Unfortunately, I have not used the distortion in Ableton. When my ears were better, I owned a Sherman Filter that was the most fun and engaging distortion box to me!

@@ModIcore thank you!! You’re totally right that when I get the VCF all resonant it does make the overdrive in the VCA stronger. I’ll look into those plugins too!
