Great, thank you! I have owned a Virus TI2 for years now, but still struggle with programming it intuitively. Especially when I already have a certain sound in mind. Would you eventually offer educational courses in the Virus? Like “today we build a professional brass sound” or so? There are quite a few companies offering patches for the Virus today, but with patches you don’t get to know your synth.
@ModIcore23 күн бұрын
What kind of music do you make or would like to make? I like happy accidents in my music which makes the Virus very forgiving. I am not sure I am qualified to offer educational courses unfortunately. I will make a note to make a brass video though. I can try to help you out as much as I can just ask, but again i'm not a synth master, more let's go for a ride person!

@@ModIcore Thank you for proposing to help. Maybe it’s not much, but when I see your video, it seems you really know where to turn a knob for achieving a certain sound. My experience with the Virus resembles more something like: I try to reproduce a certain sound, but end in creating a completely different one. For example, how do you remember the different wave types? I’m lost everytime I try to find the one I used last time. The Virus is a quite complex synth! In summary: How do you proceed to create your basic sound, before “polishing it with LFOs or delay? Do you follow some kind of a recipe?
@ModIcore22 күн бұрын
@@fraso2000 I remember a couple of the wavetable ones that are basic shapes as they are the most useful to me: Octavius (saw) and Pulse Checker (square). The others I kind of choose at random. The basic waves I have been using a long time and have an idea of what to expect. I stick to basic type sounds to make sure I don't drift too far from my idea e.g if I want a pad or a string, I use a hyper saw and thicken to my liking or if I want to hallow bass then I'll use a square. Understanding what can be done with the basic waves is important. Have you read the Howard Scarr programming tutorial? I remember that have some good building blocks using classic waveforms. You can download it here: www.virus.info/downloads/2/Manuals%20and%20Tutorials?a=login (search for howard and it'll pop up). I think in the end, I have just learned what I like from the synth and go towards it. I don't have a certain recipe I follow. The best advice I can give is to just try to keep it simple (classic waves and filters). Sorry that I am not of much help!
@fraso200021 күн бұрын
Many thanks, this is a great help! I think you are absolutely right in staying with a few “standard” oscillator settings in order to get the sound you want. Maybe my problem is that I try to use all the possibilities the Virus offers. But that’s way too much, and quite often the resulting sound is more or less mediocre. Thank you very much! 😊

Agreed! One of my favorite things in life is turning on a synth and getting lost. It is funny as I was just thinking yesterday about how I would function with only VSTs. A part of me likes the idea of having everything load back up as I left it, but it just isn't the same as working with hardware.

And there you go, piece of piss right? I've been feeding Basslines & Drumlines through it for about a month now. RTFM wasn't very enlightening so I found a couple of Tutorial vids on KZbin for reference & found that it actually works pretty much like any other Vocoder. Hardwarewise, I own the Korg VC-10, yes, 110 years old but does the job, a bit noisy but that's inherent to the"Vocoder" circuit. Vocoders are are actually in the family of Telephone Equipment & stem from that technology. But for processing External Audio, definitely the Noise-free Virus (or equivalent). ps: you forgot to vocode: Meow & Prrrrrrr.

This the shit I like. A few weeks ago when I hosed down the VST folder, I realised that I used the Cubase FX more than any other & that's what I kept. Those, the Arturia FX collection, something from Ohm Boys & the D16 Group Silverline collection, everything else out the door. I finally accepted & appreciated keeping all that stuff as minimal as the track we just heard. You give yourself all these options to look at but at the end of the day always fallback to your go-to's because you know how to make them do. Cant get that tune out of my head now. An un-sarcastic Thank you.

Aw, thank you so much for the sweet comment! Warms my heart knowing that it hit home for you. I was worried this one may be a little too crazy/weird. I may just make an external effect to use the Virus's filters.

A lot of wine & reefers went down & many good times & the little MS was always there. @@AA-ge4uj That sounds like a lot of fun and probably sounded amazing! I had the monotron which sounded good. Then the mini when it came out which I would have kept if it wasn't poorly built. @artfxdnbАй бұрын
Just stumbled upon this because KZbin recommended me it, saw this comment, let me chime in. I have done this for over 10 years so I have my fair share of experience with it. These copyright claims are often an automated process, labels will get notified when these 'detection algorithms' think they find copyrighted music in KZbin uploads. However these algorithms are notoriously bad at an important thing, and that is fair use. They also have the issue of falsely flagging stuff a lot, which is the case here with your video. Luckily your video itself is all the proof you need to support an appeal to the copyright claim. In your KZbin dashboard you will see a copyright notice, from there you can appeal. There will be some scary looking text which can scare people from filing an appeal, but in this case you have every right to do so. File an appeal and explain that in the video you can see the production process, because of this it is virtually impossible you've stolen some copyrighted work, because you can see how the whole piece was constructed in the video itself. The claimant (in this case Warner Chappell) will then be notified and they will have 30 days to reply, which they most likely won't because why would they, this whole process so far was automated on their end. After 30 days the claim will be removed and you will get full monetization back on the video in case it was monetized, the revenue earned from the moment of the appeal until the end of the appeal process will also be held in limbo until the appeal process is over, so KZbin knows who has the rights to the video revenue. I have personally had these false claims 75-100 times now, always appeal them right away, every single one of them was removed either by the claimant, or automatically after the 30-day period was over and they didn't reply. If you make the music yourself, and in the video you show that, the claim is fraudulent and you will win if you appeal, 100%.
