I have several of those electric bass instruments. A couple of them are extra weird because they have 5 voices instead of the common 4 voices. Most of mine come with more than two knobs and even a switch or two to modify the tone, plus I have some that even have two oscillators per voice! Also, I built an outboard modular system that I can control with my feet that gives my bass instruments far more range, voices, sounds and effects including a whole plethora of LFO effects. But what really gets my goat, is that with all this range and capabilities everyone still seems to want me to just "stay in my lane" (whatever that means?!) and produce common sterile electric bass tones! And worse yet, they only want me to play the chord roots and co-ordinate simple sequences with the drummer! These people have absolutely no imagination! Oh, and they also keep mentioning something about making people's butts shake, which I don't completely understand.

My first synth was actually one of the offshoots of the prototype models, the "Double" or "Contra" bass. Super weird input methods on that; You could more easily reference sequences by writing or printing them out so the pathways didn't lose step, but you had to hold the FCOs vertically due to the size and shape of it, and it used this kind of hyper-analog exciter to FM the strings? That or you had to use 2 fingers per-string for a simple AD envelope. Oh and if you used long articulations you were reduced to duophony, and a 1/4" output was a PAID addon!! Insane!!

On startup, every oscillator needs to be manually tuned. On top of that, the oscillators often go out of tune while playing. For some reason, each one seems to tune completely independently, and can cause real headaches when performing live.

BLOWN AWAY! That was such a great idea for a video! I loved it!!! You have been one of my top 3 or 4 synthtubers for a long time but this was a WONDERFUL surprise to see something done in a completely new and unique way. It isn't just for laughs, either. It is also for our ego, because we know that synths are the best instruments there are and I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see this concept taken further. From now on, all instruments should be expected to live up to normal, modern expectations for SYNTHS! Suck on that, oboe!

I used to own one with a three knobs multimode filter that allows me to select LP, BP and HP, but unfortunately lacks a resonance knob. And also comes with pitch bend that can reach 2 semitones down (not up) on the lower "oscillator". (Ibanez SR3000)

I love this commentary. Haha. Really puts into perspective all of the times I bitch about missing features in samplers and DAWs hahaha. We really do this. When I made the shift from sample based producing to piano/keys honestly a lot of the points behind the satire are things I realized about just how different live playing is from the mindset of sequencing.

It doesn’t have much sound tweaking either. No envelopes (well, those b-ass oscillators seem to have a quick attack and a slow decay envelope built-in), no LFO, no resonant filter, not even a garbage reverb chip built in. Not even a postage-stamp sized LCD to name your patches! Do you find the oscillators go out of tune too?

Those bassassis(plural?) 'random delete' is a virus within the instruments coding and will affect the entire system. It can even affect the system retroactively. Best stick with proven instruments that actual rhythm can be sequenced. Like a good monophonic synth. Plus those things cause, like oh my god totally grody calluses on your fingertips. People who play them are almost as weird as Acoustic drummers. Yuck.
