I've been working on an Octave Cat SRM for the last few weeks. It has a lot of problems and was driving me INSANE for a couple days, but I finally cracked it. The biggest issue was that some of the old trimmers were shorting and I didn't know it, which was throwing off my measurements. Once I got that sorted, I was able to isolate the main problem to a dead 3046 transistor chip, which is the chip that actually oscillates. Just bought a couple chips and tomorrow I should have it up and running. :)

THE CAT SYNTHESIZER! By Octave, I use to own one back in the eighties. I bought it from a pawn shop and played it a lot. The Cat synthesizer was a great way to learn the principles analog. Mine needed to be fully restored but I sold it when I moved. I wish I kept and restored it, a great and fun investment it would have been.

Wow! This was great walk down memory lane. Thanks SO much. I was given a Kitten by a friend of mine who worked for Octave Plateau in Yonkers, New York back in 1984. I became very fond of the keyboard bypass and used it mostly to generate waveforms hands free. BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS. Sadly, when I moved from Brooklyn to the Bronx, I put my gear in storage and the precious Kitten was stolen along with all my gear. Two years ago, Behringer came out with a CAT clone which I gladly purchased. It's SO good to have those sounds back. Have you experimented with any of the Behringer clones like the CAT?
@BendApparatus2 жыл бұрын
I also have the Behringer Cat. It's quite possibly the most amazing mono/para synth I've tried so far. It's ability to cross modulate is just nuts... The filter baffles me though... It's cutoff is just so aggressive. It feels as if it just cuts down gain and low end to nothing. Maybe I'm just used to 2 pole filters...lol

I worked on a Kitten before I bought myself a Cat and really missed the -2 Sub Octave on the 1 VCO Kitten. So I figured out how to wire up a switch so I can either use VCO 2's sub as intended or as a -2sub for VCO 1. It's usually overkill, but sounds amazing in the right situations. But isn't the case with most of the sounds of the Cat. I also worked on an SRM II for the first time last year. No service manual for that one, and a whole additional board inside. YIKES! But I got it done.
