I have a pro 2, and always wonder how different the Poly sounds . I sometimes think of selling the Pro 2, as it is so cold sounding, but after losing so many classics, I feel like I should never sell it. you have to work really really hard with the Pro 2 and the Tempest , which I have, to get magic out of them. but it's there. Dave did not offer up anything on a plate for the user.

Not really a synth, but I bought the MPC live 2 when it came out, then Corona hit, I had to return it for the money, bought the retro version when i financially recovered. Didn't understand it. Never getting rid of it and it only took me three times and a lot of financial loss. :D

If you’re not into the deep step sequencer with mod matrix the Pro 2 won’t necessarily wow you. But if you dig into the sequencer and mod matrix it’s an absolutely stellar synth. I’ll never sell my Pro 2 because i’m all about that kind of modulated programming. Only modular has the sequencing-synthesis depth of the Pro 2. Also the OB filter and Prophet filter sound gorgeous, mine doesn’t sound cold (unless you dial up a wavetable and open the filter completely and leave it like that, but who does that?) Beautiful looking synth, too.

Just happened on your channel, might I add ? I see so many regrettable sales among my fellow keyboards. It is why I am a keyboard hoarder (O: Just a few that I have NEVER let go of. MS-20 and SQ-10 bought new back in 1978. Yamaha CS-60 bought new in 1979. Also have an ARP 2600. These are just some of the oldies in the keyboard suite. That Voyager you pictured is identical to mine. The one I own was bought new, is the 50 Anniversary model with a big difference. Only ONE of a hundred that were personally signed by Robert M. ! It also has the upgraded memory which was done for me by Amos at Moog when I was visiting family in NC. Figured it would be fun to just drop it off for a few days rather then ship it from my home here in MA., and get a factory tour and see the Voyager all apart! Two many other classics in my collection to mention, but your video presentation caught my eye, and for sure the reason I won't part with my vintage gear, at least as long as I am around. Surely someone else can enjoy them later.... Thanks again.🙂

I was the original owner of a Juno 60 back in the ‘80s. Along the way, I got a MIDI/DCB converter box for it too. The Juno was essential in composing several songs (just a music/synth hobbyist). Then one day, I decided to sell the whole combo for other equipment that I was interested in at the time. Loved the new stuff, but I regretted selling the Juno soon after, and have been kicking myself over the decades since. Fortunately, Roland released the Juno 60 plug out a couple years ago, and I now have that in my System 8. Love that I have the J60’s general sound back, but there was just something special to the original hardware.

Polyevolver and Alesis Andromeda are my biggest regrets for passing up deals on...let a PE pass me by for $800 (!) and Andromeda for like $1500...RIP me... biggest regret selling was my Moog Micromoog. It was my fist synth. I got a Voyager (which i also sold...and i dont regret selling. i just regret WHEN i sold it. It was shortly after they were discontinued and prices were stagnant for a long time and i sold it for $1800. ) and thought the Micro was redundant. But it had some quirks and charm that i havent been able to replicate in other synths. and now they just keep getting more and more expensive.

Glad I was able to get a direct take on the Evolver v. Pro2. I'd been thinking of selling off a couple of lesser-used pieces to upgrade my Evolver desktop to the keyboard version, when the Pro2 came out...the uncertainty as to whether to go Pro2 has kept me from committing ever since--but you've confirmed my suspicions--going to go Evolver keyboard all the way! I agree that it's an amazing synth--love the sound and the depth.

For me, it's the Virus TI2. I keep buying it and using the shit out of it, but then I get tired of it and sell it just to buy it again later. It does so much so well, but it's hard to get it out of it's samey character and I think I'll find a workhorse that suits me better, but I never do. It's the only synth that is at least okay at everything it does. I really miss the keyboard version. I ponied up for it with the intention of never selling it, but then I had money problems and it was an instant source of quick cash. I've got the rack mount version now, but the keys version was stupendous and I'll probably never have the scratch for it again.

Spot on about Poly Evolver, I too owned one when they first came out. I had to sell mine due to hardships but yeah I got the Mono Evolver back in my arsenal again. Having the sound engine is the most important and I sample for pads too. Such a shame Sequential didn't do a 20 year anniversary redux of Evolver. A real lost opportunity. Great video, just subbed.

monomachine/machinedrum are on my most hated list. Due to the massive jitter, they only play well with themselves. As in solo only. Two monomachines will fail at being tight together. At least that's what I remembered from my elektron mduw/mnm days. Only useful if its your only piece of gear or you only add slow stuff like pads on top with other gear. If you don't value a track sounding tight, then they are fine.

I had a Korg Z1 for about 20 yrs and did three albums where most of my synth leads were done with the Z1. I was very attached to the Z1 and it was difficult for me to sell it. Ultimately, I bought a Nord Lead 2x with the money I got for the Z1 and I didn't look back. The Nord is a much better analog modeling machine and *MUCH* easier to program than the Z1. That said, the Z1 is a mean machine and without a doubt, one of the greatest digital synths.

My number one synth-related product I regret selling is the Polyend Play. I had an MPC that I used more often for sampling and sequencing so I thought I wouldn't miss it. Boy was I wrong. It's just by far the easiest and most intuitive interface for making music that I've ever come across. The MPC is way more powerful but making it do something even remotely generative is a huge struggle. I'll probably buy it back at some point since it's worth about the same as the couple of spare eurorack modules I have lying around.

You hit the nail on the head with the Evolver, It is such a unique sound and hard to believe it’s 20 years old. I’ll be taking mine to the grave with my JD990. Being honest I hate watching vids like this as I can sympathise, I recently had to part ways with 15 assorted hardware synths due to literally running out of storage space and needed to make way for new gear. I would say it was some of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in the last 10years. There all different and often uniquely impacted our musical journeys at different times. Yeah selling synths sucks. The only time I regretted getting married as the wife oversees the books and vetoed any more expansions for storage and made sure everyone fully understood this. Yeah selling synths sucks.

More than half of your most missed synths I have and happen to be favorites in my studio. I picked up the Z1 with voice expansion for $400, which was a steal. I got the PEK for $1600 used. The guy turned it on once and decided he didn't like it. I found a school that was getting rid of their PE Racks for $800. I only had the cash to get one at the time. I wish I had gotten 2. 8 voice PEK is amazing. MD has always been my favorite drum machine. Chaining the MD and Monomachine together is so much fun.

@@blush_response I understand... Maybe with a next OS, I don't know..... I felt the same with the Nord Wave 2 compared to 1. On NW1, you could, for example, do FM on an oscillator with a sample, which makes it possible to obtain some pretty crazy sounds! On the 2, even if there is a bit of FM in the synth and it is more powerful on different things, I think we get bored more. Besides, I find the Prophet X much more powerful at this level. On the other hand, on the M, there is a really nice function directly, it's the ramdomization functions of different parameters on a sound. With the possibilities some wavetables, It's fun !
