That’s why Batman the animated series and justice league unlimited are my favorite. Both series showed that sometimes actions of the villains are justified, that most of them were just victims of circumstances, that they need help, that they aren’t all that bad. And flash and Batman showed that the most. Be it sitting down and talking with trickster or keeping company with ace until she died.

It’s one of the reasons I love the Ultimate Spider-Man run so much. Ultimate Jonah is a far more nuanced character than either the main universe or the movie versions. He just used Spider-Man to sell papers and it was never as personal a sense of animosity. But Magneto floods New York and Jonah watches Spidey exhaust himself saving as many people as he can and has a total reversal. He gives Peter a job in perpetuity where he can come and go at will and pays for his college.

lack of writers who genuinely want to make good stories without pandering
@crazyinsane5002 жыл бұрын
We never really had consistently good comics. The 10's and current are filled with people trying to make things progressive, the 00's were filled with people trying to be edgy and "mature," the 90's was edge incarnate, the 80's was trying to throw off the goofiness of the 70's, the 70's was goofy but trying to be mature, and so on and so forth. Consistently the idea is to cheaply move copies with gimmicks and social trends, not make good stories. That's why people remember the stories that stand out: They went against the grain and stood proud among their contemporaries and chose to be good instead of trendy, or best epitomized the trends at the time they were written.

Because after all, they’re human just like everyone else

This is a lot like when Batman sat with Ace while she slipped away. I really feel like a lot of the Heros grow to love their villains in a way. Flash cares about Trickster. Professor X practically a brother to Magneto. Spider-Man letting Venom crash on his couch after he got his ass kicked by Carnage. It's the moments like these that make them heroes.
@g.masterlordoftheg-force4770 Жыл бұрын
Heroes don’t help villains necessarily because they love them or even just like them. It’s because that’s what a hero is supposed to do. Be there for you when you need them most. Usually, it’s innocent people caught up in a villain’s schemes, but if the villain themselves needs help, Spider-Man will try to help them. Even Norman Osborn. One time, Sin Eater had the powers of the Juggernaut, and was coming to kill Osborn. Peter definitely hates Osborn, but he was willing to risk his life for the bastard. Even when Miles, Spider-Gwen, and several others told him to just leave him, that he is evil, he doesn’t deserve help, Peter still got involved despite how much he hates Osborn. The point is, a true hero is supposed to be there for you even if they absolutely hate you. Just like Peter with Osborn.

somehow the death of a villain is always sad, thankfully, i suppose, heroes don't die often, but they tend to go out quick. some sacrifice moment. but villains? its rarely a quick death in marvel. its always slow, its always the knowledge that they know almost exactly when they are gonna die. its the hero coming to their side and helping pull out the last essence of humanity, an understanding that they were always a person, not a villain, and that in many ways they were forced into this role, because they couldn't get help, because they were being prejudiced against, because they had no control and people saw not a person in need, but a monster on a rampage. in some ways, it speaks to a persons character to look at these individuals who are villainized and called monsters... and cry for their loss.

So Spidery went to visit him, talked about adventures, showed him how his web-shooters worked. Even revealed who he was before he left, and as he swung away, he stopped on the wall outside the hospital the kid was in and hung his head as if crying, and there's a newspaper story displayed that talked about how the kid was terminal with cancer.

Stories where the hero just sits down and has a conversation with their villain, not as a semi interigation or the hero is captured and forced to listen to ramblings, one where both are just having a normal conversation. Those are the best, while I’ve not seen this elsewhere in marvel I have seen it twice in DC, one where Flash talks to one of his villains and confronts him about not taking his medication anymore, promising if he does he’ll visit him in the hospital to play darts with him, and another time where Batman just sits down with a super powered Ace as she’s dying just so she’s not alone when she passes. There almost certainly are other cases of this in Marvel but I’d like to stumble on them instead of go looking, it’s a nicer surprise that way
