Love the variety of crops, but if I may offer some feedback from the last few years of studying and working with Syntropics here in Aus, there is very little density in these rows. It is what we would call a "forever hungry system", as the amount of energy going out exceeds the amount being put back in. Most of the trees you have in the system are all emergent/high strata, with very few medium and low strata plants. There also does not seem to be much in the terms of natural succession. Switching the mindset, which admittedly takes times, to not see anything, "weed" or insect, as a pest, but instead as an indicator is far more healthy when trying to work within the guidelines of Syntropics. Working with those indicators to improve soil conditions is far more helpful than spraying or burning. Would be happy to direct you to some great resources or even have a chat about your setup if you're looking for advice.

If you drop the hot pepper, whole and unbroken in a pot of soup or rice, then remove it before it bursts, you get the flavour with way less heat.

Yay he's back :) I love the fishing/adventures ( even have my own channel now 🤣) but have always loved the idea of self sufficiency and still working towards it so the wife and I will be watching on intently! Not sure if you're sticking to just fruit farming but I think now it's cooling down some things like lettuce, tomatoes, Asian greens, capsicum, carrot, taro, ginger, beans, pumpkin, sweet potato, basil, coriander, spinach, cucumbers and all sorts of things like that would be great to see incorporated in future videos, management of pests etc. Seed raising tips/techniques. composting, yeah so much to go into!

You keep calling Papaya, "Paw Paws", that must be what ya'll call papaya in Australia. But true Paw-Paw fruit trees grow wild here in the Southern United States where I live, in the state of Georgia. The paw-paw fruits sort of look like a mango, the skin varies between green, brown, and yellow when they are ripe. The inside of a ripe Paw-Paw fruit is very creamy, it varies between a light yellow cream color like a banana, and a brighter yellow like a mango, and it tastes like a creamy banana custard with a bit of a mango or pineapple tropical fruit flavor. There are many different varieties of paw-paw fruit trees and the taste varies among them. But they are a wonderful fruit tree to grow in a hot and humid area. They would make a wonderful addition to your farm. The grafted trees produce fruit in just two to three years. The ungrafted seedlings can take up to 10 yrs to produce fruit, but can produce in as little as 6yrs.

Where I live, I reckon I've used sweet potato vines to smoother out mimosa/sensitive plant. I plant the whole tubers straight from the supermarket.

I love what you are doing Syntropic Ag needs more exposure 👍 Have you thought about adding more support species? Sensitive Weed is a legume, so the ecology is saying it needs more legumes.

Sorry I got sidetracked. I'm no expert in this area, I would recommend Scott Hall for advice on things most suited to your region. Daniel makes a good start though! Acacia's like the manguim are an Ernst staple, raintree, cassia, neem, sesbania, moringa, stylo, even just tropical beans. Some of the higher strata species could even help with shading your more sensitive species.

Aaron, so interesting. I grew up in southern Florida, so some of your plants are plants I am familiar with, such as papaya. Do you not have Mango? How's the Sapodilla tree doing? We also had a tree that we called Rose Apple. It produced a Kiwi sized fruit that tasted like rose water. The drone image shows your home, did you do a tour of it in a previous presentation? What variety of fish do you have in your creek? I hope you try making your own ale from a homebrew kit the Irish offer a gorgeous brown ale kit, such good brew, so inexpensive! Looking forward to more of your postings, and I'm glad you are not subsisting on your boat out in the wild ocean! I have followed you through quite a lot of your life!

Your pigeon peas are different from mine, mine have yellow flowers. And the leaves are more elongated. The wind blew mine over after they got big but they are still alive. Wind is an issue in my part of Florida also. My dragon fruit bloomed but never produced fruit? Maybe they did not get pollinated, not sure. Loving your homestead. I am guessing you don't have time for other peoples channels but you might like ''David the Good'' if you do.

Your orchard looks amazing, I love that giant passionfruit, passionfruit is my fave fruit. A Q. For the dragon fruit vid... I live in Adelaide and my sister and I are growing dragon fruits, I got her a mature one but we also growing from seed and they super cute, I have them in a big sunny window and they will all go onto wheelable trollies to keep in warm places, so what's your advice infrost zones, just put inside or green house over frosts?

BTW I grow my own chilies as well, those short fat ones I have stopped growing🤭 for the same reason you were saying, just extremely hot🥵😭🤯. I am currently using the leaves as tea for detox but all parts of the plants (roots, seeds, flower, leaves, and stems) have different healing properties from wound healing to mood disorders to stomach ailments and so much more. I would post a link for you but KZbin would just delete my comment. You should look more into it and possibly sell it especially since you have so much. If you decide to, I would certainly be first in line to buy it from you.

Loved this. Pretty jealous of the range of fruit trees you're able to get a hold of! Trying to push fruit diversity on a smallholding in Zambia and most of what's available in-country are South African imports that are completely inappropriate for the climate.

@@b2bhomesteading Soil's actually pretty good - it's a fine sand, somewhat leached and prone to compaction but responds well to care and gets on pretty well with most trees. Rain averages about 900mm, almost all December-March with the African monsoon.

I have heard that even with self pollinating dragon fruit you should still pollinate them to help fruit set and size. Should you cross like varieties or different varieties? And does it affect size and taste?

Mangos make good windbreaks, just plant Kuini, kasturi, nom doc mai, and other se Asian varieties that will fruit in the rain.
