Eric Clapton braucht keinen Gesang , er spielt die Worte mit der Gitarre so klar das man sie verstehen kann. Einfach fantastisch.

In moments of pensive, melancholic reflection and contemplation, I am often drawn to this emotive outpouring of soul... deep outpouring from both the hand which penned it, and the hands that perform it here... likewise with Jeff Becks "Amazing Grace".

My brother Sidney Kendall was born in 1930, we affectionally called him 'Murphy'. He taught us of a love we did not know. He loved music and conducted the radio. Auntie Flo cared for him, and they shared a room together. She loved him until her time came to go. Murphy had Spaniel dog named Monty and they sat in front of the radio. He heard Enid Jones announcing on local radio 2GN. He went into her studio and sat silently with her while she was 'on air.' Murphy loved the song 'Danny Boy' and he sang along in his own way. I found Eric Clapton's version and I play this special song now, and know that Murphy is here with me. I love him now and always will. "Memories of love live forever." Murphy's brother, Lindsay Ross.

This is the perfect way to play a sad love song, not meant to jaunty like some people sing it . Harry Belafontes version is also my fav. Vocal since he brings out the true feeling of a grieving mother, wife, or girl friend while he is away at war in Germany. It's a heart string in tatters.

Abrazos mil.

Richard you just saved us... now im really going to go out and get drunk... thats going to be a hard because i dont drink.

The tune which has become known as "Danny Boy" was first printed in 1855 in a collection of Irish music complied by George Petrie who named it the "Londonderry Air" (The Derry Air) probably because the tune had been given to him by a lady called Jane Ross who lived in County of Londonderry. The History of the tune, begins with an O'Cahan bard, named Rory Dall O'Cahan, who lamenting the pasting of his great chief. Sir Donnell O'Cahan's death brings an end to the line of O'Cahan Chiefs of Ulster and the twilight of Gaelic Ulster. Tradition has it that this blind Bard - harpist wrote the original tune, for Danny Boy, in memory of his Chief and the destruction of this ancient line. Accordingly, O'Cahan wanted to create a song of great pain and passion that would touch the hearts of the world. This tune became known as "O'Cahan's Lament." The tune was passed down the generations of the O'Cahan harpists and fiddlers and is believed to have been heard, been played by an old Fiddler in Limavady. Possibly Jane Ross who lived in Limavady overheard the playing and so adapted the tune.
@musik1026 жыл бұрын
Adapted? Not quite! Weatherly simply set lyrics to " Londonderry Air", indeed, lots and lots and lots of other song lyrics used the melody before the Danny Boy lyrics were used.

There is more than a suggestion on the World Wide Web that Jane Ross heard a blind fiddler playing the tune and merely 'recorded' (i.e. wrote it down) and sent it to English collector of Irish music, George Petrie. the tune is said to have been originally composed as a lament for the O'Cahan Clan. Jimmy McCurry, the enigmatic figure who originally played the tune on his fiddle, is buried in Tamlaghtfinlagan Parish Church graveyard (in Ireland) in an unmarked grave. Jane was Irish, from Limavady
