System Change from Insanity to Prosperity by Don Puswella Jun 9, 2024

The speaker is a Sri Lankan senior expatriate residing in the US. His presentation today was an eye-opener for any Sri Lankan. His talk, "From Insanity to Prosperity," focuses on what is needed for system change and is based on the book Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty, written by Daron Acemoglu, a Professor of Economics at MIT, and James Robinson, a Professor of Government at Harvard University.
His proposal aims to achieve four outcomes that the people of Sri Lanka urgently desire:
Economic recovery resulting in the elimination of indebtedness (within 5 years)
Clean governance resulting in the elimination of corruption (within 3 years)
Sanctity of the judiciary resulting in the institution of the rule of law (within 2 years)
Far-reaching changes in the election process resulting in the restoration of People Power vis-à-vis Money Power (within 1 year)
The discussion that followed was enlightening and exposed some ground realities and obstacles.
