Not unlike Axl Rose, two vocalists, who in their hey day were top notch, but have lost much of the power in their vocals....I suspect that if Serj would ditch the guitar, and just go back to being the best frontman he could be, he may be able to regain some of that energy
@Viggo-iu6gx4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! And the vocals for systems songs are not very light on the voice when you do it for so long. There are entire songs were he's pushing it to the max.
@nextlifeonearth4 жыл бұрын
Might have helped if he was singing in tune. Or didn't skip the harder notes. I know singers in their 60s that are still growing, despite their age genuinely getting in their way. He's too careful with the parts that made the song interesting by skipping them and his skill is waning, maybe because of alcohol, the sound setup, his health or negligence and that doesn't matter as much as a pleasing result, which this wasn't as much as earlier live performances or the studio recordings. Too careful and a lost touch is how I would describe it. Put that show on, even if you can't reach the notes. Focus on the music, not on getting it done. Take it seriously. Genuinely as a musician defences like these offend me. "Appreciate they still play". Like at what cost? They're obviously not doing their best. Might be for the best if they didn't for both them and us. They could go on, reevaluate, and they already tried, but really broaden their options to things they didn't want to consider before. We could remember them fondly by their recordings and at their best and enjoy their future work, depending on how they continue in either another band or as a band that evolved in something new. People will hate it, but you can't do a thing in this world that wouldn't offend somebody, and as long as you stay true even the most hated changes will eventually be rewarding either as an experience or in a new audience.

(EDIT) Too many people repeating the same thing. If his voice hasn’t change to you, cool I’m not talking about *you.* But too many times I’ve read people say his voice has changed in a bad way. -- People don’t seem to understand that it’s completely normal for someone’s voice to change as they get older.
@jektonoporkins50254 жыл бұрын
Yep, nobody’s voice is going to sound the same at 50 as it did at 30, particularly if they are a professional rock singer. Aerials was recorded like 20 years ago. Rush was still touring when they were in their 60’s...Geddy Lee sure as hell couldn’t hit the notes he hit in the 1970’s but it was still good. If one goes to a SOAD concert now, they should fucking be thankful that these guys didn’t totally break up in ‘05 and that they’re still allowing people opportunities to see them live.

People that, people this, what about you? Why are you acting like you're some kind of genius who knows more about things than everyone else? Condescension is never the best way to teach someone about something. As for his voice, I don't think what you've said has any truth in it. Sure voice changes as one gets older, but it doesn't change as drastically as Serj's has. And Serj isn't even that old yet. Lets review some facts first: Serj was about 50 years old when he performed in this tour and he sounds like a squealing pig (not trying to insult, but its true). Corey Taylor is about 46 years old and he still has that deep, heavy metal voice. And he stills growls and screams today. Only a four year difference. But Serj's voice started changing from around 2003, if you watch the older concerts. And he was probably way younger than Corey is now. So again, your comparison is shit.
@gumiero77014 жыл бұрын
yes, and he also still sounds incredible
@honeyandlavender_4 жыл бұрын
@@keyboardwarrior9177 Sit the fuck down. I’m not even making a comparison. Yes people this, people that. It ain’t about someone being smarter than the rest, I’m just not one to immediately think “your voice is so shit” without looking at it from a different angle. It’s a normal change that happens when you get older. It doesn’t happen to everyone and it doesn’t happen to all of us at the same age. So what if Corey still sings good? Congrats to him. Corey isn’t Serj and Serj isn’t Corey. Everyone’s different. Something could’ve happen to Serj for that. Who knows? Only he does and those close to him, “genius who didn’t find any truth in this and finds someone else’s comparison, when it wasn’t even a comparison, shit”

For me this is such an important song. I have four children. I have asked them to listen to this song. I have told them that they can be whatever they want to be, and I will love them no matter what. For me this song also represents how we have to help each other. Some of us have been born in poorer conditions and we have to remember that always, and help those that are in need of help. Let's just begin with the closest friends. We might not in our everyday life see how much they need our help.

I saw them in 2019 at Sonic Temple in Columbus Ohio for my bachelor party front row and all the show was amazing honestly they sound better in concert compared to listening to an album I even got one of John's drum sticks he tossed out at the end of the show they even used the same background in this so whenever I watch the PinkPop performance it's like I'm their all over again

I don't think Serj got a weaker voice here...he is just playing around the tunes a bit.... He sounds much like his prime... SOAD is the only band that deserves recognition among today's rather shit music

I get that bands have to speed their songs up for these kinds of gigs since they have to cram a lot of songs into a tight set, but it really kills songs like Aerials that benefit from that slower tempo.

If you listen to anything he’s put out recently, he can still sing just like he used to, it’s just now he saves that for only in the studio because he’s getting older and it’s hard on his voice

Fun fact, I have a promotion CD that didn't make it through the plugging sessions to get this song on the dutch national radio. A friend of mine was a DJ in Hilversum. Clearly it didn't make it back in the days. I hope those guys that dismissed this will watch this video!

…SONG OF THE DAY!!!
