For all those people who are complaining about a 50 year old's ability sing the way he did 25 years old previous. Lets hear any of you rock like this at his age. Maynard said it best: Singing through a set is easy. Screaming through a set is easy. Doing both is hard. This man is a walking legend. This man's range and ability to hit those high and low notes while screaming in between is amazing. He's a freaking prodigy. They sound amazing. Full stop.

@@denizbaranreyhan7987 come on men!!! You never cant compare techniques of Ozzy or Dickinson or Falford or even Hatfield. They sing in high notes or a little bit of raspy voice. The Tankian techniques of scream, guturals and high notes is fucking awesome, and much more hard than the other techniques. But 20 years of sing like that destroys you. I wanna see you sing in that way 20 years. By the way. Corey Taylor's doesn't matter. He just scream, almost nothing of sing normally, and of course nothing of high notes.

Darron does not get the credit he deserves as a guitarist. he’s damn good. he’s created some of the best riffs, he sings while he plays, and he has no rhythm/backup guitarist when they play live. it’s so hard to get a full live sound with a single guitarist, and to be able to do that and sing is incredible.

Personally, one of the the best live performing, metal bands to ever exist. The material is highly complex, many sections, pitch shifts, rhythm, tempo etc. And they are soo unforgivably tight - perfect every time. 4 guys.... No tricks. Pure fking synergy, symbioses and art on another level. I mean.. How can a live-show sound like the album?
@cordialement43839 ай бұрын
The live show doesn’t sound like the albums. Far from it. Drummer is far from being as tight as you seem to hear it. Not mentioning the vocals… Sure it’s very honorable to play without too much computer adding (unlike muse for example). Their music is really great for sure, but there has been and there will be plenty of groups with much more precise live interpretation. Try Vinnie Paul and Dimebag playing perfect strength beyond strength live faster than the album version for example. And that was in the 90’s (Yeah I know, Vinnie does speed up then slows down a bit between the last time of the 4th bar of the second part and the first time of the 5th. But still. And Phil’s vocals were out of this world). kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIC7fWNorZJpjposi=uuA5uVCpy5velTZ1

Ive come to learn something from soad. If they made a new album they wouldn't be where they are. Serj even said "not making a new album, made us all better friends and band mates". All this time ive been giving them shit for no new album, but now I realize that it's not about that, its about being good friends and playing music. They're in the right place right now, which is why im seeing them in 2018. And people talk a lot about how they suck now, but those same people come back to their shows each time, because they think "soad might be better than last time". Those people have forgotten what the meaning of a band is. Playing music, that's it, nothing more, nothing less. People talk about how serj needs to leave the band, and get a new singer. You cant replace a single band member in soad, because they all share unique qualities that no other band has ever had. Serj's voice was granted the 11th best singer in metal, along with beautiful and heart breaking lyrics, and professionalism. John covered the original drummer for one night in 1996, and then he just became a part of soad from then on. Daron does things on stage you cant see with other bands, like stage diving while continuing to play the song at the same time or running around and spassing out on stage and keeping the anger in the music. And shavo slapping his bass to the song, and dancing. Do it, think of another band like these guys, do it. You can't, can you? You can't categorize soad and their music. That "Nu Metal" bullshit is far from the amount of beauty this band provides. Anyway, soad is better now than they've ever been. Nothing will replace any band member here.

I have to agree with everything you've said here. SOAD are probably the most unique band ever. They can't be put into any one category. Somehow, they sound like alot of other bands and no other bands at the same time. Their originality and talent are unmatched by anyone but, I do think it's the combination of the four of them that makes them so good. If any one of them were replaced, it just wouldn't be the same

I remember being literally pressed chest to back with strangers at Warped Tour 10 years ago but its like you don't see that anymore. The whole crowd of people pressed together, moving as one. it really was something to experience.

Just sitting here quarantining and listening to SOAD and reminiscing. My God, this band was awesome, and I loved them. Still do, they are on regular rotation on my iPod and I hear SOAD every day. Ya know, it really sucks when a band you really love gets stale and all their material is played and old and boring and you lose interest and stop buying their CD's. It's a whole different level of suck when a band you really, REALLY love has continually put out great albums that are captivating and original and different than anything else out there... and just stop. Maybe SOAD quit at the top of their game, which is probably smart. I've read all the back and forth between Serj and Daron, Serj takes full responsibility because he's not into "heavy" music any more. Whatever. It's a damn shame, but I appreciate what SOAD was while it WAS. Now I'm off to buy Scars on Broadway full catalog to get my fix...

Serj is classically trained, he strained his voice a lot when he was younger. He sings a lot smarter now. I think he sounded great here. Many of the people who complain have probably never been to a rock or metal show. Auto tune has spoiled so many and they don’t even realize it’s going on even live.
@zacharymclean95713 жыл бұрын
Classically trained? Was he taking chorus classes while he was getting his marketing degree? Serj never imagined he would become the rock God that he is, nor did he like much of the music that status was built on. He and his bandmates explained that very clearly when they finally explained the hiatus and why there will never be a new SOAD album. EDIT: Also, he’s always sounded much like this. He was never really able to replicate the studio in a live environment. And that’s just fine because in my opinion, if live music sounded the same as the studio it would be boring. If you don’t like it, don’t see them live.
@Mariokartfann2 жыл бұрын

I got to meet SOAD WAY back in the day when Toxicity first came out. They were doing a signing at the Sam Goody near West 4th in NYC and I had Serj, Shavo, and John sign my Ibanez RG. I had just started playing and they were one of my favorite bands. Unfortunately Daron missed the signing but everyone else was so cool. Shavo looked me dead in the eye when I asked him to sign the guitar and he smiled, as if to say, "That's pretty cool, man." Amazing band.
