LOUD ALARM!!! While it's good to have a loud alarm to get people's attention, particularly those hard of hearing or those in a loud space (such as a dance club, factory, etc), this seems a bit unnecessarily loud. You don't have to have an alarm THIS loud to get people's attention there is a fire. HOWEVER, on the contrary, it's loud and obnoxious enough to motivate people to leave the building.
Despite all that, this alarm has a mounting plate feature. All you need to do is wire the plate and put it on an electrical box, THEN put the alarm itself on the plate. Quite simple indeed; no wonder many installers are choosing to install this alarm in many new installations.
DISCLAIMER:
1: LOUD NOISE. TURN YOUR VOLUME DOWN IF YOU CAN
2: This is being activated in a controlled and legal environment. No fire departments were called when activating the alarm.
3: The video contains flashing lights. Those who are sensitive to flashing lights should not watch the video.
I AM NOT responsible for any legal or medical damages done.

And here’s the worst part. While it is true, the louder the alarm, the faster people want the leave the building. But guess what? It would take FOREVER (over exaggeration) for everyone to leave the building because the hallway would get PACKED. So, not only do I have to deal with that obnoxious sound for so long, but I also have to hold my ears until we get out of the building, because I’m sensitive to loud noises. My arms would hurt from holding my ears for so long. Also, those things were EVERYWHERE. It was just bad. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Now here's the concept of the volume. Lo volume: a volume used for example a classroom or a hallway. Med volume: used in wider spaces like skyscrapers nor offices or gyms(including school gyms). Hi volume: this volume can be a life saver if you work in a large office room or in a factory mostly gyms and school gyms. Depending on how big the facility is. For example in a factory, Hi volume would be nessesary. To get many peoples attention. The reason why medium or Hi volume is not used in a classroom is because. If it were to go off in a classroom on high volume. Many students will experience loss of hearing for days or even months. If you read this and agree on my chart leave a like.

I find the Wheelock AS and the Simplex TrueAlert to be just as loud as the SpectrAlert Advance here. And the new L-series from System Sensor sounds a lot like the Advance but is a tad softer. Not to mention how the Advance is SO COMMON compared to other alarm signals. I've seen them replace older rarer alarms so many times, like at my college or at my first elementary school.
@NewEnglandElevators
@NewEnglandElevators 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard a L-Series yet, but am curious about it based on what I've been hearing about it...one of these days... It is surprising at how common this thing is, and can be a bit bland. Surprisingly, I do enjoy the design of this series, especially the mounting design. I guess it's easy to see why it has been installed in a lot of places, easy design.

@NewEnglandElevators
@NewEnglandElevators 9 жыл бұрын
I believe this particular unit has been out longer than the Exceeder. I don't exactly know when the Advance line was introduced, but I'm going to guess around 2006, as that's when the original SpectrAlert (and oddly enough the MASS line) was discontinued, according to Wikipedia (could be false, but is a good start). The Exceeder came out in mid-2008, I vaguely remember when that happened. Both have the "mounting plate" system, but somehow, I guess the SpectrAlert is more well known/installed amongst third party installers, who usually install systems in smaller stores.

Not forcefully asking you to do a video of that or anything, but the only reason why I asked for request is to be curious as I was telling you about what happened at my local Kroger. Anyways, I just uploaded the video if you want to check it out. Same exact horn sound as in this video! kzbin.info/www/bejne/opvcfmtnmc91eNU

Nah, I totally understand, and I just saw your video! Unfortinately, I don't have any of the Advance devices in ceiling mount. However, I do have something close, which is one from the classic series. I have a ceiling mount remote strobe, and it's the SC241575.
@JimLiElevators
@JimLiElevators 5 жыл бұрын
@@NewEnglandElevators If you haven't done that device, do you think you could share a video just to show me how it works? If your viewers beg you to upload more elevator/fire alarm videos, you could put a pined comment what exactly the reason you uploaded for (although you don't upload anymore). Like for example, if I request you to upload the video of the fire alarm that you just told me about. Also... is it called the System Sensor SepctrAlert Classic ceiling mount remote strobe that looks similar to the Advance one? I"d love to see that! Unless you have already done it years ago, that's understandable.

@@JimLiElevators The SC241575 I made a video of a long time ago...back in 2011. It's an older video, so it's not as great as this one. It may have been featured in a few of my other alarm videos in the past, I don't remember off the top of my head.

It is good to have a loud alarm to get people's attention, especially in a space where there may be other loud ambient noises. There is also a benefit to those who are hearing impaired, a loud alarm can get their attention. However, an alarm THIS loud seems a little unnecessary. On the contrary, it's loud and obnoxious enough to motivate people to get away from the danger; which would most likely be a fire.

eBay is the best place to purchase alarms, lower than retail prices usually (anything below $20 is good). There's a few other dealers out there, but I think their prices would be too ridiculous for a typical enthusiast wanting to collect a few devices. Usually those dealers intend to sell the stuff they are selling to contracting companies, building owners with fire alarm systems, etc.

NJMoo3652 This series is very easy to install, just mount the plate onto the box, wire the plate up, and mount the device itself. I CAN do without the noise though. It's good to get the attention of people in a potentially dangerous situation (fire, leak, etc). However, an alarm of this volume is definitely unnecessary...even to motivate people to leave the building.

***** I agree with NJMoo, but I'm not happy with the person who put these on High volume at my school.

Zachary Bishop The volume on these things is completely unnecessary to get the point across that there's a fire in the building, possibly to the point of hearing damage. However, it can be a motivator to encourage people to leave the building. The extremely loud noise will prompt people to leave the building, they don't want to hear it.
