A couple of years ago, I first played Deus Ex and it has been my favorite game since. Being close to its release and also having played Bioshock, I gave System Shock 2 a shot and I loved it. Wanting to know how Shodan was in the beginning, I then tried System Shock and found it surprisingly fun considering the age. Funny how far you can go when you're curious for old games that are still fun.
@lukaimedashvili2702 жыл бұрын
Exactly. When you are curious, intrigued and don't judge video games by modern standards, you can enjoy even the very old ones, by having corresponding approach to them
@themasteriswatching11 жыл бұрын
I have asked this question before, but if you pay close attention in the games, the suspenseful music is played at the proper moments in both 1 and 2, whereas the more upbeat music is played in parts where less attention to detail is required. Though the themes of the series are pretty morbid, it's overall an action series taking place in a cyberpunk future, and that reflects in this fast-paced song with slightly sinister instrumentation.

Not quite. System shock 1 just had a looping track playing the entire time on the level. Sometimes when you get close to enemies it changes the beat slightly. But it's not like SS2 where the background music is actually ambience then suspenseful music plays in certain areas
@RetroDeathReviews6665 жыл бұрын
Honestly always felt this one was much better than the 2nd one. Obviously, the 2nd one is arguably better for replay value and freedom in character customization, but this one just had something so damn special about it and it seems to always get overshadowed by SS2. The combat was extremely satisfying, the music while not scary or creepy gave you a very genuine cyberpunk feel, Shodan was FAR more unsettling and threatening in this one (I didn't ever feel scared of Shodan or Xerces in SS2, but in SS1 I always felt creeped out and on guard because of her constantly spawning enemies near me and threatening to kill me for going to certain areas with her face popping up on my interface), better story for the most part, great sound and level design, just agh. This game was a fucking masterpiece, and the 2nd one is too for sure, but I will always take this one over it.
@Therealguymins3 жыл бұрын
The Maintenance deck in SS1 was definitely scary.
@retrosquadchannel2.050 Жыл бұрын
But SHODAN is not the ruler of Von Braun in SS2 to begin with, so there is no room for fear. Also there is a place for amazement - small part of Her Magnificence managed to pull of with literally almost no resources, as in SS2 she is not omnipresent. Xerces should be left to sing Elvis Presley songs - he excels at that.
