Synthesizing the ever-growing academic literature is an important skill in academia and science in general. Most will know about narrative reviews and meta-analysis; but perhaps systematic mapping is a less well-known option. In this video, I explain the difference among these three approaches, how a systematic mapping is done, and what you can do with the results. Have you heard of this? Have you tried this out? Please let me know in the comments! 😀

Excellent video, Dr. Rillig! Any article/book recommendation on Systematic Mapping or even a rationale?

Thank you. I don't know a book recommendation, but there are good overview articles in the peer-review literature. I think I posted one in the video description.

Thanks for the nice introduction to the systematic mapping of the literature. Are there any tools/software to help do systematic mapping, e.g., making the tree diagram to link different literature?

Thanks! People just use R to produce the graphics. But there are tools people have used to help in the paper screening, you might want to check out a recent paper by James Orr in Ecology Letters if you are interested. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/ele.14463
