So... I Quit Diablo 4

As a long time Diablo fan (I, II, III), you gave totally valid feedback, I also quit weeks ago, no in-depth mechanics, no "chase" of items with clear path forwards, just a meh aRPG at the moment. I hope it will be a much better game within months from now. But at the moment, there are plenty of other games that have much more to offer: PoE, Last Epoch, BDO, GW2, FFIXV, etc, etc... you name it, good thing we have choices. In the meantime, Diablo IV is just another game for a few hours of fun, fun story and then move on.

Same here, Diablo 1 was my first PC game ever as a kid. I wanted this game to be so good, and the main story campaign really is good, but then it's nothing. Besides all the lack of content, my high end PC gets constant stuttering that's probably from VRAM leaks and I just can't stand to even look at it anymore. Like you said I'll be looking to see if it's a good game one year from now

@@blueleaftuber This type of games, if they fail within the first 6 months (first 2 seasons), then it will enter maintenance mode, as it is very hard for a live service to regain the trust of their lost players and attract other players if the changes needed come too late. Diablo 3 was the same. It entered maintenance mode quickly, but it earned way past the cost of development/marketing. Diablo 4 has already sold very well, brought fat profits for the shareholders, and proof enough to Microsoft that the acquisition of ActiBlizz is warranted. This game was released in a beta state, despite being marketed as a fully complete game. It forced players to buy it for 70-100$, depending on the version they chose, and made them do the testing for their game so they can make adjustments, rather than keeping it in development for another half a year and hire a testing/quality team. Issues were already seen prior to the release, but everyone shrugged it off saying that they will be resolved before release or before season 1, which of course they were not. The only good thing about this game is the campaign so far. Which is truly stellar. But is it worth buying this game for 70% just for the campaign? No. Maybe if the game is 50% off. I received the game for free luckily, but if faced with a choice to buy or not to buy it, I would not buy it.

Got 3 chars to lvl ~85. and could not get passed it. The game is so boring, i was literally forcing myself to play. S1 was such a disappointment. I gave it a try, but ended up quitting after getting to T4 (at level 54). No decent gear drops, constantly re farming materials, and they killed helltides too on top of that. the feeling of having to replace all my gear from T3 to participate in T4 is so bad... its difficult to process. Completely get your point of view. I'll check out the game in 2 months at S2, and if its still trash, than that will be the last blizzard game for me. Not sure what I was expecting from blizzard tbh. (Loved the story, btw. campaign 1-50 is really good)

You're spot on. For me I feel like this game is doomed to die by a 1000 cuts, it tries to be too many things like an MMO, an aRPG or couch co-op yet nothing is fleshed out and as you said is in beta state. The solid core doesn't matter if every system is flawed, they have to do a lot of work and I honestly can't see myself putting more time into the game even after 1.1.1.

A day in Diablo 4 for a gamer. After patch 1.1 dropped yesterday. I log on to my rogue looking forward to the new changes and going to blast some nightmare dungons. I pop my trap that with my mag-heart that spawn a decoy should taunt the mobs to it but now it taunts the mobs to me and I die. Well alright so the decoy is bugged whatever I don’t need it as I press on I just have to adjust my play style. I’m noticing that one of my legendarys that basically do a frost explosion to enemy’s that are affected by my shadow imbuement doesn’t seem to work at all (Frozen alchemist). Now at this point I’m starting to get frustrated. So I take of the ring that I have the power on and put it on again but still no frost explosions at all. And now that is a big problem since my build and gear is around doing extra dmg to frozen enemy’s and now I can barely get one mob frozen in a pack, as well as I’m taking a shit tone more dmg since the mobs are not cc’d. I’m already really mad at this point, no shadow decoy, no frost explosion. The developers must have broken the game that what I’m thinking. Let me just finish this dungeon and figure it out online after what is going on. I start to notice something else as I press on the poison pools from my legendary is barely procing either. Now I’m really pissed, I manage to get one proc finally I think! But I see that I have no poison imbuement charges even while standing in the poison pool. (While standing in the poison pool you are supposed to get unlimited poison imbuement charges) (Bursting Venoms). And what follows after that is that I die ofc and can’t finish the dungeon and now im pissed my character is basically unplayable. So I go in to the forums and I see people in the rogue section are raging everywhere. And it appears this is not a bug to some people, that this is a shadow nerf. That it was not working as intended before and they decided to fix it now. As I’m reading I wonder is Fixing something suppose to drop you from a 70 Nightmare dungeon to a lvl 40 Nightmare dungeon mid season as well as sucking fat cok and be useless cause that is not fixing in my world but hey blizzard has a way of “Fixing” things I know from my time playing retail wow. Anyway I’ve been fed enough fat coks and have already uninstalled the game and deleted battle net. If you have red this far thank you for your valuable time listening to a former Diablo 4 player.

Also quit the game some 3 days ago, there just seems to be no direction or vision of what blizzard wants the game to be - literally all the changes they do, big or small, beneficial to players or not, feel 100% reactive. They keep talking about these long term plans, and then keep doing the worst possible thing that you can do if you actually do have a long term plan. I applaud you for your optimism regarding season 3, because I think it'll take quite a while, like a whole paradigm shift, to make this game enjoyable on the long term, and imho that will take AT LEAST a year, probably more (and there's also the ticking clock of POE2 just around the corner...)

Apparently, D3 was an amazing game to people who bought it after the release of the reaper of souls. I had stopped playing D3 long before that. Gave a chance to d4 and played the beta. Its understandable, and i could not have said it any better my self. I quit D4 2 weeks ago, for the same reason. The game was fantastic at start, but its the dead zone you hit on 50-100 that is very shallow. Then the seasons did not give me much. I also activated my battlepass by a misstake. It was no warning or anything. BAM! Active. I was only looking around, on the menues at that time. I wanted to play a Sorc, like i did in beta. But its not viable anymore. I tested it, but it was painful to play now. I dont think "remastering" the classes will get me back at this point. When you have 400-500 hours in game at this point. You have seen what is to see.

Good video. I had a ton of fun with D4 like you did, great story to experience and play around with paragon board etc. I will check out the game as the seasons come out but not something I’ll play all the time. This is kinda what I expected in playing other games and other seasons in the arpg genre. If they make the future seasons interesting , I’ll be there. Can’t wait for Last Epoch official launch later this year for one.

Came here from Asmon's reaction to comment on your question. In regards to season 1.. i hardly even played it. After reading the patch notes prior to season 1, and reading about all the hearts in the game i couldn't shake the idea of '...is that..all?', but thought about giving it a shot still. First i had a 90 minute queue...twice. After i did get into the game i played Necro for about 6 minutes, got stuck in the infinite loading screen from the league mechanic and /gquit the game. All in all i had a great time playing FF14, so yeah there's that. Judging from all the videos about season 1 lately, can't say i've missed much it seems.

I really recommend jumping into PoE when the new league launches. It'll give you time to try out a variety of builds and build playstyles, and learn the different ways in which you can play the endgame (and which one you enjoy best). You'll probably not find fights that challenge you mechanically similar to say Lost Ark, but here's where PoE 2 will probably satisfy you more. We already know a lot of systems that are in PoE 1 will be in 2 as well, so learning it now will be an advantage.

The game is good for the first like ~50 hours but after you got through endgame it just collapses. The game has no end-game, it's just artificial difficulty with no incentives whatsoever. Uber liliths waves are complete dogshit and that's why you only see 30sec fight builds there. And why is there no unique loot attached to the fight? Complete failure from Blizzard. Imagine fighting Elder in PoE and you get exactly nothing. Nightmare Dungeons are fine as content but once again, doing a level 100 nets you what? A minimal better chance of a ancestral with high itemlvl? That's not how you design content, attach items to certain bosses and high NMDs that exclusively drop from that source. Loot is the main driving force of ARPGs and Diablo 4's "Endgame" fails completely.

After playing D2 res, D3, then putting 350 hours into d4 , which is not a ton of hours. I completely agree with your side of feedback and how you feel. D4 is a really fun game for the first 100 hours. Or even until you get deep in the endgame..after realizing that all you can do is grind nm dungeons over and over and over..that's when it hits...what's next? D4 has a good core , with some small changes and more content it can definitely be a great Diablo. Especially after they fix resistances. I have not made a sorc class yet..I'm going to try that on the update tomorrow. For now, I've went to Poe . Back to Last Epoch , grim dawn.

D4 pushed me to finally try Last Epoch (awesome, but in Early Acess) & Path of Exile. Also been slowly playing through BG3 on multiplayer. We had it in Early Access for 3 years, so we've been in no rush.

D4 has been a massive letdown for me. I expected so much more and the major issues with bugs and exploits really show they never tested this game and just rushed it out. Maybe in season 3 they might be in better situation, but it might be too late by then.

The short period of time i played as a sorc through the beta was super fun. I Ran a Iceblade build that summoned unlimited conjurations. It's felt good and all the mechanics at the time justified why it felt good playing it. It didn't felt over powered or underpowered. After beta everything felt restricted.

The game simply is not fun, I keep running while fighting mobs because of the lazy explosion mechanics, cc's all over, plus all the problems you already mentioned on the video. Blizzard is totally lost and has no clue on what to do, I start to think this game was a cash grab, I can't do more than 2-3 NM Dungeons before I get bored to death.

Instead of little choice and full monetization, it is full choice and no monetization (apart from the initial purchase). I played preseason, i had fun until 70, i played season until 56 before getting bored. I feel they are missing variety content, that other games like lost ark or path of exile have. Once they add more variety things to do and fix resistances that do not work like they did in previous diablo titles, i think they will have a good game

itemization is the core problem of the game for me. the loot is very boring and uninspired, its not giving me that "oh cool" factor that other known arpgs currently are giving me. everyone knows that 'magical feeling' when you see something drop and your heart skips a beat. D4 has none of that at all. And thats not a me-problem. d4 actually manipulates you into feeling this and constantly be disappointed. Usually in arpgs when items with that sky-beam drop they are good items. In d4 its just the same rare garbage but with an additional power. Thats just not enough to justify tricking me into thinking something cool has dropped. Its exactly this fakery that annoys me. Make less drops but have them be more significant. There is no need to have an inventory full of rares after one dungeon run. There should be per dungeon 4-5 rare items tops and maybe every few dungeons a legendary or unique, but these HAVE to be powerful. Also they need to get rid of so many convoluted stats on items. But these are all points blizzard will never address because its a completely different game-philosophy. And Blizzard has a completely different one. also the whole skilltree and paragon board system is botched. The skilltree is too simplistic and paragonboard is overloaded. my suggestion: streamline the paragonboard and morph it together with the skilltree to have something more akin to PoE but not as crazy, maybe 50-70% of that. as we can see from D2R, not having an endgame like at all, does not prevent the game from staying relevant. so clearly its not about the amount of different activities that is a core aspect of an arpg, it's about how you make players feel while they are playing and progressing through the game, how the rewards feel like and if you, as a developer, understand what makes loot great and what doesn't. i came to the conclusion that Blizzard simply either lacks the talent to make properly engaging and long term motivating arpgs or they let marketing experts and financial engineers dictate the core structure of the game and then build the rest of the game around these ideas. because it definitely does not feel like this game was built with the idea at the core to give players the most amount of freedom and fun while playing the game.

Valid you put the time in. Tbh once you clear Lilith and NM 100 the game is over I would also just move on. I agree the game will prob be better in about 6-9 months. Please don’t bother with Last Epoch like people are saying the game is in Early Access for over 6 years. It has around 10 hours of content…PoE is not bad but does feel super super old. I’d just play Baldurs Gate 3 or Starfield until like S3-4 starts on D4.

beore you only used skulls cuz resistance sucks... now hearts give more armor then skulls and skulls are useless. Why not make the heearts give like 50-60 resistances to the diffferent colors and the wrathful heart should give all res. and why no buffs to the resistances on the other gems? why should skulls/hearts be best.

I started lost ark in May. I've spent 20 dollars on the game. I'm really enjoying playing slayer and I made a Gunlancer which is starting to become my main. I don't do alt farming. I just go as far as I can honing then stop. I haven't had trouble with gatekeeping in legion raids. I read a lot online and saw youtubers saying this was a problem. Maybe I got lucky on 2 characters idk. I see a lot of carrying/bussing raids so I don't think gatekeeping will ever be a problem if you just want the gear to progress. I like doing the raids personally. I am glad to see good changes to chaos and guardians coming. I was glad to hear them talk of cutting gates in brel and kay. But especially brel, that raid is a slog.

Like others have said, you would probably enjoy PoE or Last Epoch. I've stopped playing D4 after 3 lvl 100s on eternal realm and went and got Last Epoch. While it's not difficult, the variety of builds and the itemization is just so much more exciting. It's a nice middle ground between Diablos simplicity and PoEs complexity.

How much did you grind for lvl 100? I am past 63 and it is so slow even with a flask and appropriate tier nm dungeons. Are they forcing us to play in a group for optimal xp?

@@scourgeborne92 that was before the current xp nerf. first one took longer, since that was before the buffs. the other 2 took about 80 or so hours each. I played solo just spamming nm dungeons and legion events when i saw them

It was the same for me sadly. The most fun that I had was pre-season when I could play whatever build I wanted but since Season 1 came out I haven't touched the game. I only got as far as to level 72 which makes sense since after WT3 there's nothing to do besides min-maxing your gear and mindlessly grinding Nightmare Dungeons which is not very fun at all.

While I agree with much of the review, most here purchased and played. If you have disposable income a dollar an hour may be fun enough. Writers are on strike so TV shows could get thin. Putting money in to multiple games could be fun if you have the time and dough. I have played for maybe five weeks so that was worth it, and I can always play more while trying other games.

Dude I quit a week after release, I was pretty much finished with the game when it fully released after playing the early access, I got to 70 and shit was boring, pushed to 84 just to try to justify the amount of money I spent on this trash game, but there's just no depth to the end game.

I’m not a dnd player, but I gave BG3 a chance, and it turns out I was yearning for more of the “RP” in “RPG” than I realized. I can’t believe how much more I’m into the story when I actually like my character and speech options and actions actually make a difference. The combat is not as fun as someone who enjoys action, but it’s different and unexpectedly still addicting. It’s so exciting seeing smaller studios start to produce more triple A-like games with Unreal Engine 5 and soon generative AI tools. I think this decade there’s going to be a renaissance for the gaming industry.

aRPGs like POE, and now D4, are typically played a bunch at start of season, you drop the game and play something else, and come back for the next season if the season is good and the metashifting makes sense. If seasons are all going to be S1 level, I too am done. My PoE seasons usually last 3 maybe 4 weeks. I was "done" at level 95 on a new class and bored to tears this season. I look forward to seeing you try PoE. That has hundreds of hours of unique content waiting for you to experience and tons of builds if you decide to dip your toe in there.

This game might be good in 1 or even 2 years not 6 month for sure. It not only lacks end game or some exciting systems in place that awaits you to reach the end so u ca participate,but it lacks pvp and any sort of competitive nature. Its just bad single player game. In 2023 Blizzard heavy advertised Diablo as ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME with multiplayer open world bosses, events and quests...meanwhile social aspect is non existent, players resort to 3rd party web sites and applications to be able to interact with each other and arrange party or trades. Its incredibly stupid.... and outright bait advertisement. Not even a proper world chat or party grouping system. The game is basically single player dumb down console game that have super bad 3x closer camera distance made to admire your character hair follicles resulting in 0 awareness and getting 1 shot from off the screen and behind a wall shot arrows. The end game content are the same nightmare dungeons that you already puke by leveling doing thousands of them! The rewards after level 70 and the dopamine are non existent... and you have to grind the largest portion of xp with little to no upgrades and excitement towards 0 end game. Also.... missing basic and aimple features like loot filters, search in stash and inventory... absolutely horrible mount controls, memory leak that is not fixed since BETA... and countless bugs all the time are found by players. This game wasnt complete or ready for release, it needs at least 1 more year of hard work on it. On top of this... the reasoning behind most of the ingame stuff is so bad that i do t even think the cirrent devs are capable of making anything better at all. To me... diablo 4 needs a miracle to be anything better than 3, and 3 was absolute disappointment and no matter what the few fans are talking about.. the numbers dont lie. Diablo 3 was a flop and so is 4. The only team working on this game that deserves their job are the graphics team and thats it.

the foundation they have is good, I think they were givin a date to put the game out and it wasn't totally ready, I think they shoulda maybe done a fall release. Once you hit like level 80 it really feels like something is missing. The only option to level up post 80 is to do NM dungeons. Anywhere else gets you virtually no xp minus legion events but then those tend to get repetitive as well. I'm just about done with S1 and then I'm taking a break, I"ll check back what they have in store for season 2. Hopefully it's better, I'm not that big a fan of the S1 mechanic.

The world they have and the combat they have is good, that's what I'm talking about when I say foundation. Gear is rather bland and endgame is bland as well. So you need to elaborate on the engine cuz I'm not sure what you mean.

Most of my friends didn't even beat the campaign. The game is such a slow, tedious, boring ass grind. And the game has no match making mechanics so I can meet other players... So I just stuck in a single player loop of boredom. Sure I could go to a discord, reddit, etc and ask to meet people. But why on Earth would I go through an entire extra fucking step that should just be a mechanic in the game itself?

u can try lineage 2 flauron x3 or reborn server but you need have friends atleast 3-4 to play with before throne and liberty comes out

there is no creativity in the game.. same spells..cant keep doing the same stuff over and over like D3. Infact i liked the POE game design, just change the gem and a new spell and then you keep adding different gems in the game.

Players should be given the option to get a full or partial refund. If players will spent this money not on the game, but on the services of a prostitutes, not only would they have much much better content, but also the pleasure of the "game" would be longer. Worst 60 EUR spent since I can remember..

The secret is finally out. Doing the same content repeatedly with the same character is boring, especially when all you're actually doing is the "find more powerful loot to power up so the enemies can power up and drop more powerful loot" loop. Doing that same content with another character that doesn't require any "design" thought is also boring. The only thing that makes builds interesting is if the game presents "design obstacles" rather than artificial difficulty. The place with the least artificial difficulty is the story-line content and, coincidentally, people find the D4 levelling process, you know, that thing everyone always wants to skip, to be the most interesting part of the game. TL;DR: What gamers thought they wanted in an ARPG (aka no story, all "infinite endgame", one build to rule them all) is actually completely wrong. Who is going to go to Blizzard and say, "Yes, this is exactly what we said we wanted, but it isn't what we want"?

I had such a great time in Lost Ark for the first few months. If that game had a monthly sub I’d still be there but I hated the honing and p2w vs not is just too much of a time sink with a full time job and kids. The monetization stops it from being one of my favorite games of all time and I’ve been around for a long time in my mid 40’s lol

Spot-on feedback. I just don't believe the game will be finished or good within six to nine months. I too was fooled by the first 70 levels or so, thought we had a promising foundation and maybe I could get used to some of the missing QoL, and Blizz would provide the rest. But their obvious trial-and-error approach made me lose faith both in their intentions, and their competence. Apart from copying a meta build from YT to clear unrewarding checkpoints, there is nothing to do in D4 end game. I wanted to make my own build in D4, being a D3 veteran with many hours played. But this is a waste of time because the math is obscure and arbitrary, some mechanics do not work... it's a swamp. The built-in ways to waste time are outrageous to me. It's obvious from the very start that towns are designed to BURN the player's time. Plus the lame horse. Plus the one extra loading screen when teleporting to a ND. Plus the extra two seconds to leave a dungeon. The game is not made with fun in mind, and I don't see how that policy will change.

This is so great to hear someone's opinions on Diablo ARPGs who played this kind of game for the first time :D I started in the 90ies with Diablo I and bought Diablo II and III on launch day. The issue when it comes to D4 is that Blizzard made one absolutely amazing ARPG that is still actively played 20 years later and still has a huge fanbase (D2) and they made a very mediocre ARPG that had huge issues at launch and got "ok" after 4 years of additional work and huge changes to everything (D3). --> For whatever reason they decided to base Diablo 4 on Diablo 3 and took that as a starting point, when it was clear to everybody they should have taken D2 and built on that. That's Path of Exile did btw (build on D2) and I'm certain it's one of the reasons why it is so successful.

Same here… I did not even bother to lvl to 100 or go for Uber Lilith (she doesn’t drop anything exiting)… Did not even start season, cause it was pale… Every previous Diablo game was better… honestly D4 is not even Diablo. It is indeed early access betta, and not very good one. Dungeons are extremely boring and all the same. Even campaign story, which everyone praises is only good in very beginning and very end with countless empty escort missions in the middle. Started PoE instead, and waiting for next big D2R season.
