I just had the most amazing close call. Before watching the video, i decided to try to go to the Mun and back (Without landing). After achieving stable orbit and adjusting my trajectory to the Mun, i turned on two thermometers so they would display temperature and then sped up time until i was close to the Mun. When i was as close to the Mun as i would get, i noticed i was out of electricity, meaning i could not rotate my vessel, and my vessel was not pointing in the right direction. The damn thermometers had been consuming electricity the whole time. So... Panic mode. My trajectory at that time would bring me around the Mun and back around Kerbal, going as close as 2.7 million meters to Kerbal, not close enough obviously. I almost quit right then and there, then i noticed a slight rotation on my vessel, it was turning 360 degrees every 20 seconds or so. So i came up with a plan. What i did was i waited until my vessel was facing away from my current trajectory and floored it for about 2 second while it was facing that way, then waited for it to come back around and repeat. I did this about 5 or 6 times until i managed to lower my speed enough to land on Kerbal. Had about 10 seconds of fuel left at the end of it. There's little more frightening than being stuck in space forever, i was 10 seconds worth of fuel away from that fate. This may not seem very impressive to the veteran players, i mean, i did screw up colossally. But i was mighty proud of myself for managing to save myself from that screw up, and it was sooo close too :)

Wonderful. I have been playing with Kerbal for about 5 weeks now, learning by trail and error and reading the wiki tutorials (where apparently, they think we are all rocket scientist) and have watched a couple of your 101 videos; but I wish I had seen this series a long time ago, especially for your tips on how to collect science. My progress along those lines has been painfully slow. btw, One thing I have discovered and have found useful is that after you have maneuvered for a Mun encounter, if you set the Mun as your focus it will clearly and separately display your encounter path without all the other distracting BS. I find it much easier to move into orbit using the path displayed this way.

Just performed my first Mun Orbit! Hell yeah! It was a VERY quirky orbit, (a polar orbit mind you!) anyway, as I tried to return I had an escape trajectory with Kerbin, I tried to reverse it and got my orbit just under 30,000k on Kerbin and I had no fuel! Just as well, Jeb got back safely with minimal explosions... just about. As I landed my capsule I had landing legs strapped to it, as I wanted to land on land so I could get in practice for a Mun landing... unfortunately the landing legs snapped, propelling Jeb about 120m into the air... (Idk how!) and landed diagonally, fortunately the capsule survived with all the science intact! In summary it was a very shaky and (to be honest) crap first attempt, nonetheless I pulled it off!

for the orbiting manoeuver around the mun, wouldn't it be more efficient to slow down till we get an orbit and keep it elliptic as it is at about 16:42 ? Then you could just get to apoapse and slow down to bring the periapse in lower munar orbit and do your science, then escaping from the mun by accelerating at periapse.
