Your difficulties with the maneuver node at 12:00 are not a bug, they're a feature! Instead of approximating maneuvers with an instant impulsive burn like in KSP 1, KSP 2's system of timewarping while performing a maneuver shows the path your spacecraft will actually take! In my opinion, this is a huge improvement to the game, and will make engines like the ion engine and future interstellar engines usable. Your maneuver looked a bit funny because the thrust limiter for your engine was set very low. Essentially, you were telling the game that you wanted to start burning at Eeloo periapsis, and continue burning until you had exerted the delta-V that you gave to the maneuver. This would have taken forever under a 1% thrust limiter, and in the meantime your ship would have gone screeching past Eeloo. For the future, the red line shows where your burn is actually taking place, and by moving your maneuver so that the red line is centered about the periapsis, you will achieve a circularization in the way you expected.
@PluralCHimera0 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't you achieve the same thing in ksp1 by just starting the burn in a way that half will be before the node and half will be after
@TlalocTemporal Жыл бұрын
@@PluralCHimera0 -- For short powerful burns, assuming an impulse is pretty close, but when your burn takes multiple hours over multiple orbits, an impulse is only good for approximating the final escape trajectory. Slowing down at another star system would be entirely blind like that.
@oliverwoodhouse1221 Жыл бұрын
I had the same issue that you had at 12:08 Matt, I fixed it by starting the manoeuvre earlier. It might not be a bug because I believe KSP2 takes into account the position of the craft throughout the whole duration rather than assuming the craft completes the burn instantly. If you are burning for an extended period of time then you're still moving in space
@TlalocTemporal Жыл бұрын
On one hand, I think that's something to do with it, seeing as Matt started the burn late and ended in a rather oblong orbit, but on the other hand that oblong orbit wasn't that close to overshooting the whole planet, and it certainly wasn't such a sharp parabola.
@filipstraka8964 Жыл бұрын
It’s because the last time his craft burned he had his thrust limiter set to a very small amount and even if he set it back to 100%, the maneuver planner still thought it was super low and calculated an insanely long burn time (the red line)

Here is my solution to the time warp lock on low gravity planets: Use radially mounted engines attached to servos. Link the servos to an action group so they can swivel and blast the ship toward the surface, then rotate them back to cancel your velocity. Dont forget to lock the gimbal when the engines blast you toward the ground. (It confuses the sas and mkes the craft spin otherwise.) I used this method to land a huge robotic mining and refuling station on gilly. The thing was bigger than a saturn 5, so rotating the whole ship was a pain, and waiting to fall was too much.
@alesrus1160 Жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, great video as always, I just wanted to comment on the bug at 12:00: I might be wrong, obviously, but the bug you got when trying to circularize at Eeloo with the maneuver plan not working might be because of the small corrections you did just before that, when adjusting the encounter. Therefore, the game might have been confused with your T/W ratio, indicated by the insanely long red line, so the game basically thought you weren't able to slow down enough at all. It's the same in KSP1, when I change the power limit of an engine and then create a maneuver node it always states way to large a burn time. Just an idea though, I haven't even had the chance to play KSP2 just yet.

The “bug” when you circularize around eeloo is not a bug; it just thinks your burn starts at the node, and your burn was long enough that you travelled that far into your escape. Next time, try pulling the node back in time on your orbit and line up the end of the burn with your periapse.
@HiItsMars Жыл бұрын
If that genuinely functions as intended it's goofy as hell.
@shortwave737 Жыл бұрын
That is almost certainly not correct. In fact, I would bet its starting the burn much later than the node for some reason because you can see no matter how much he changes it the area around the node doesn't change, but right before he would leave the SOI of Eeloo it does show the changes affecting there until it just turns him right around. Combined with the kerbal getting out in a weird spot bug and its probably got something to do with Eeloo's location being wonky in the engine and causing issues. I would be interested to see if this is easily replicated or not. Edit: Someone pointed out he had his engine limited at 1% from his prior maneuver which is why that happened like that. So they are not related and you are right it wasn't a bug, but it wasn't because of the location of the node either. It was user error Lol.

yeah if the red line in the orbit is the duration of the burn, either the node was telling you to start the burn much later, or it was calculating the burn wrong as if the engine was much weaker than it actually was. what actually was a similar problem with KSP 1, where you had to do a micro burn at full throttle so the game could calculate the burn properly. but since they did maneuver nodes differently, this bug would never happen.

One feature i think i would like to see added is a dynamic time warp. Basically it would make it so you travel around your orbit at a constant angular velocity regardless of the eccentricity of the orbit. So you would percieve yourself moving past your Apoapsis in time warp just as fast as your periapsis, and the game would automatically and smoothly slow down and speed up your true timewarp to make that happen.

Computer Engineer here. 21:12 Lots of programs we use on a daily basis are not optimized at all and really don't need to be because the speed of computers is so much faster than we really need as well as there is such a huge variety of devices that many systems run the exact same code to some degree on. One program that is super super optimized for some reason is actually roller coaster tycoon 1. The entire game was written in assembly. Assembly to even most modern programmers is difficult to develop and annoying to read. I know MIPS but that's because I'm fresh out of college and still remember that painful class... Other games that use 100% of that resources/are optimized to the max: Doom: SNES version The GBA version of Tomb Raider (community build) Factorio Pokemon Gold/Silver version - (optimized in terms of memory) many many NES games - (Mario and Zelda would be my top picks for optimized memory and not CPU performance, top pick for CPU would probably be Ninja Gaiden or Megaman 2) A modern program that I believe is optimized but am unsure about is VSCode/anything written in powershell is really really fast. After the N64/PS1 era lots of games were developed in C and therefore weren't written in CPU instructions line by line (besides games for the gameboy until around the GBA era). C is much more readable and faster to program in but you lose that "bare metal" control of the system to the compiler. And a compiler is only as good as the developer who makes it. Many programs/projects still use C is mysterious or "duct tape" ways but most modern games and programs will use a derivative of C such as Java or C#. C is now considered the "Latin" of programming where it is old, but universal in syntax to modern languages. Another note of "we don't really use 100% of our CPU" is CPU interrupts - Basically any time your computer: writes to the screen, you put in an input on the keyboard, sound to speakers, checks the time or ANYTHING happens, your CPU stops processing data. So in reality you really only ever use around 40% of your CPU at any given moment even if task manager says it's closer to 90% usage as it can't process information while doing anything else. -A giant nerd

Maneuver bug you said when breaking in Eeloo is not a bug. Now the path is dependent on the location where you start the burn, so you should start breaking earlier. I mean, it might be a year or two before the entire current roadmap is completed, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get science points and the tech tree in one of the next few patches. The signs are all there, buried in the code, that just about everything has prototype-level stubs already done.

I’ve visited pol in ksp2. Would 10/10 recommend. It’s a very unique looking moon and I think it looks incredible.
