BONUS is an artillery-launched, fire-and-forget munition capable of successfully combating any armored vehicle. Compatible with the majority of existing artillery guns, BONUS is handled just like a conventional shell. When launched from any 155mm artillery system, the BONUS carrier shell separates to deploy two sensor-fuzed munitions that then search for targets within a given footprint, up to 32,000 square meters. Each of the two expelled munitions independently seeks and neutralizes its own target. By carrying two smart munitions within the BONUS shell, its mission success per round is far greater than with traditional ammunition.

If I was a weapons manufacturer I would have sent observers to Ukraine in 2022 and been taking notes on the weapons' performance. I would also pay close attention to how the soldiers operate the weapons. I would have had engineers work on v 2.0 so that the soldiers can operate them more easily and with minimal training, while the weapon has better accuracy. Then I would have shipped the new weapons to Ukraine free of charge, for live testing under real world conditions. Now I can sell more to other countries at a higher price.

This shell is made… imagine getting blasted out of a barrel, flying for 20 miles, exploding, and then somehow managing to deploy a parachute….. THEN, the parachute holds a smart weapon that decides it wants to blow the tank up…. Someone’s brain thought this was a good idea and the some genius made it happen.

Now imagine if UkroBros had tens of thousands of these shells, all of the Z-tards armored pushes would be eliminated before even entering battle zone (they still mostly are - by the drones, but Bonus is more efficient per unit)

00:21 I think it's a deflated parachute descending under the bigger puff of smoke. You can clearly see it's visual projection on the ground moves as the camera moves also, so it's still in the air. Also it's deflated because it already released it's load.

These have surreal accuracy, they can hit a moving target that's smaller than the hatch on a tank. Not like they have to, given the penetrator will just slice through a tank's roof like it was nothing.

How do you even time that artillery fire in order for the shell to open up above a moving tank? Not to talk about the loading time... I have so many questions relating this ammunition.

@TheFrewah
@TheFrewah 18 күн бұрын
They do just that, there’s a timer that tells the shell when to ”open” and reveal the payload. The Swedish BONUS uses a camera to locate the target. It looks kind of comical when it opens and starts rotating. However, you won’t laugh for long. These things are awesome.
@ptonpc
@ptonpc 18 күн бұрын
Basically, mathematics. You know where the target is, how fast the shell is moving, how long it takes to get there. So you know when to deploy the sub munitions. The tricky bit is getting it all to work reliably given the conditions the shell was stored in, when it was made, the G forces when it is fired etc etc.
@NewMusicWeekly
@NewMusicWeekly 18 күн бұрын
Yes, the tank's position is only predictable if it maintains its velocity. I wonder whether varying speed and direction can get you out of range. Do the BONUS winglets steer? I suppose the SMArt parachutes don't.
@d3nza482
@d3nza482 18 күн бұрын
@@NewMusicWeekly No need for steering. After locating the target the submunitions explode in the air, sending a shaped charge penetrator into the top of the turret. It all happens at the speed of explosion from the moment of target acquisition. No time for the target to move out of the submunitions' arc of fire.

Now imagine if Ukraine had a weapon that contained the equivalent of 10 BONUS rounds except each round also contained *4* further submunitions for a total of 40 vehicle/tank seeking submunitions per weapon with extra frag to take out surrounding infantry. Well, we could give them just that, I've described a CBU-97 which can have a guidance package put on it to make it act quite like a JDAM then it becomes a CBU-105 WCMD. These are air dropped bombs that are compatible with F-16s though could probably be made to work with anything that Ukraine is dropping full sized JDAMs with if they tinker enough.
@rmdomainer9042
@rmdomainer9042 18 күн бұрын
The Brimstone Launcher Van would cover the tanks at least. I do believe that packing a shaped charge and a frag in one unit is counter intuitive. It might be better to specialise for each target.
