BONUS is an artillery-launched, fire-and-forget munition capable of successfully combating any armored vehicle. Compatible with the majority of existing artillery guns, BONUS is handled just like a conventional shell. When launched from any 155mm artillery system, the BONUS carrier shell separates to deploy two sensor-fuzed munitions that then search for targets within a given footprint, up to 32,000 square meters. Each of the two expelled munitions independently seeks and neutralizes its own target. By carrying two smart munitions within the BONUS shell, its mission success per round is far greater than with traditional ammunition.

I would have had engineers work on v 2.0 so that the soldiers can operate them more easily and with minimal training, while the weapon has better accuracy. Basically, mathematics. You know where the target is, how fast the shell is moving, how long it takes to get there. So you know when to deploy the sub munitions. The tricky bit is getting it all to work reliably given the conditions the shell was stored in, when it was made, the G forces when it is fired etc etc.

Yes, the tank's position is only predictable if it maintains its velocity. I wonder whether varying speed and direction can get you out of range. Do the BONUS winglets steer? I suppose the SMArt parachutes don't.

@@NewMusicWeekly No need for steering. After locating the target the submunitions explode in the air, sending a shaped charge penetrator into the top of the turret. It all happens at the speed of explosion from the moment of target acquisition. No time for the target to move out of the submunitions' arc of fire.

Guess they got their christmas bonus a bit early this year.

Or 6 months late. A lot if Russians celebrate Christmas in January due to the Orthodox calendar.

Now imagine if Ukraine had a weapon that contained the equivalent of 10 BONUS rounds except each round also contained *4* further submunitions for a total of 40 vehicle/tank seeking submunitions per weapon with extra frag to take out surrounding infantry. Well, we could give them just that, I've described a CBU-97 which can have a guidance package put on it to make it act quite like a JDAM then it becomes a CBU-105 WCMD. These are air dropped bombs that are compatible with F-16s though could probably be made to work with anything that Ukraine is dropping full sized JDAMs with if they tinker enough.

The Brimstone Launcher Van would cover the tanks at least. I do believe that packing a shaped charge and a frag in one unit is counter intuitive. It might be better to specialise for each target.
