Even though I was only missing 7 engines as kid, half of those were the engines powered by tenders/coaches. I recently got murdoch and just got hank the other day but ive never owned mighty mac. As a kid it depended on the character, I remember using harvey without his coach a lot but I barley ever used molly because the coupling of her tender became worn and barely worked.

i like the tender engines like gordon,edward, james etc because it's like they are getting fuel/coal from their tenders to power them. Plus they are connected like that in real life engines

If you combine the Hit Toys Hank tender with the Fisher Price Front, you can make an extra strong Hank!

I had a tender powered Emily and molly when I was a kid. From my experience the tenders wasn’t strong enough to push the front up bridges or hills quick enough or even at all while carrying something, this was especially the case for Emily

Nice video!. and Some of the tender powered Engines like Hank Murdock Emily Harvey and mighty Mac look fine But engines like Molly and Stephen look absolutely atrocious!

Stephen is like the only one that remotely looks terrible with the powered tender. Everyone else looks alright; mainly Hank, Murdoch, and Harvey and Mighty Mac with their powered coaches, but Plarail really blundered with Stephen. Like it's one thing to make him tender powered to keep his small appearance on the locomotive itself, but it's another when the tender is larger in both height and length than he is. If you lock forces with the Plarail Stephen and Trackmaster 1 Stephen's tender, then you have the perfect motorized Stephen right there. Unfortunately, he isn't actually motorized tho, you're gonna need a string for that lol.

I honestly think if you took the plarail Stephen, and the Trackmaster Stephen tender, you'd get a non powered model but, probably a really accurate one

Imagine if, using a power coach, you make a self-propelled train using only rolling stock and no locomotives. Would make for a great ghost train story... Also, WHY DIDN'T THEY REUSE EDWARD'S CHASSIS FOR MOLLY?!

Harvey, Emily, Murdoch, mighty mac, and Hank, I understand. There all tender/coach powered due to design reasons or a cool feature. Molly is was makes me upset, she could easilly be engine powered but for some reason is tender powered, and this is coming from a major molly fan. The plarail stephen is the worst offender, he looks awful! But yeah, in general i think most of the tender powered engines are justified due to design reasons but they did over use it for some others.
