I cried in public the first time I heard this at an Obon festival. Irish with blue eyes, I think there must be a past life connection...So wonderful.

Another song my mother had on 78. When she was in the Army Nurse Corps, she lived in Osaka and Kyoto. I grew up listening to Japanese music and I love it.

Brings back memories. During the Korean conflict dad was stationed in Okinawa, upon discharge in 1952 he brought a recording of this with him, and taught us the dance.

Amust for Obon!- So easy & when the dancing usually begins most folks are "Tanko'd" on Sake & don't give a hoot about how you do it as long as you're happy!

I just came here after reading this bl story about lovers dying in this era. They'd be together hiding the fact while they're holding hands while their adviser plays the piano of this song. It all happened in their school. The other guy is going to college but the other one is going to stop studying and instead go to mine coals. But they died bc if an explosion. Now, decades later, they reincarnated being teachers on the same high school. And I'm bawling

Same time America was rebuilding Japan after the devastation of the 1940's. Hmmm, now what could have happened in the 1940's that caused America to bomb them... Not sure. In any event, glad our two countries are friends now (as friendly as you can get from two very different cultural backgrounds).

the Americans were worried about the high number of casualties(an estimated 250.000) they would incur in an invasion of the Japanese mainland during WW2. so they used the bombs.....

Jude Law Japan was wasting time trying to negotiate an armistice like we did with Italy in 1943. In August Russia attacked Japan while we showed we would exterminate the last child in the crib before we talked to Japanese like they were human. Japan was forced to surrender to America before the Russians swallowed them or we completed the program of genocide against the civilian population.
