TOP kinda popularized of having that deep ass voice rap in kpop. He used to be a underground rapper then he auditioned to YG. From what I can remember, he decided to become a rapper when he started listening to notorious B.I.G. when he was a kid.

i came across your reaction video for the first time, and I subscribe to your vid because of what you said about music being universal and we should just appreciate it. If I may add about Doom Dada, TOP (from group BIGBANG), he is the first underground rapper that became an idol. Doom Dada is is full of symbolism. I'm not sure if you're gonna read this but you were reading the lyrics from Genius and often you have highlighted words ( like "Pinot Noir" "Basquiat" "Somelier", etc) and if you click on them in the same page you will get an explination (they tend to be acurate). T.O.P is known for his taste in arts and a lot of time in his songs he chooses to make a lot of mentions so many words would go over people's knowledge at first watch/listen. Also it has already been said but: T.O.P is a member of BigBang debuted (with them) 2006 but before that he was an underground rapper in Korea (probably 16-18yo), so when he says "the real one is here" he ain't lying. Back in 2013 he was talking about the upcoming rappers within Kpop but you can also talk about nowday rappers/kpop rappers.

This is one of my favorite MVs in kpop (ever!!) and it's a really under appreciated one because people think it's just a super wierd video. T.O.P. enjoys a lot of art so this MV is referencing a lot of the art movement called Dadaism (which also contributes to the title [he's a genius]) , he even has a reference to Salvador Dali. And it's just a well write song as well-- I'm always sad that T.O.P. doesnt have more songs out there but yeah a rare genius p.s. i almost forgot!!!!!!!!!!! also a reference to space oddyssey!!!!!!!! so good

I'm very late to this reaction and I see a lot of comments about how TOP is the OG rapper-in-boy-bands legend, etc. I don't know how many people have also mentioned that TOP is well known for being a big lover of art (he makes references to artists frequently) and leans into the weird. Dadaism was an avant-garde art movement that was all about challenging norms, defying classical classification of art and interpretation, etc., and I will always love the surrealist visual and audio elements to this MV for playing with the feel of that movement.

DADA... the word actually is referred to Dadaism. You can look it up. Btw, T.O.P is the first-ever underground rapper that became an idol. Back in the day, K-hip hop doesn't like the idol world. Generally, people don't like it because they see it as nothing but some overly manufactured music with a bunch of pretty boys and girls singing some cute songs that were made according to the direction of their company. YG changed it all up by introducing hip-hop groups like KeepSix, Jinusean, and 1TYM in the mainstream market, and then BIGBANG came in. With GD and T.O.P showing the damned idol world what real rap is. Composing and writing their lyrics to convey their own message instead of going for what the company producer dictates and what Korean broadcast will only allow.

i don't understand the exact situation, but tablo (or epik high?) was a part of YG ent. YG ent, the house of big bang (top is a member of big bang), 2ne1, blackpink, akmu, ikon, winner, sechskies, and treasure. i don't know if they only make music for YG ent artist or they actually is a part of YG (i was only 10 years old then, bare with me). i know tablo and YG ent is somehow connected bc i was a BIG YG ent fan and i only listen to them. TOP from BIGBANG, he's the only member from Bigbang who not release full solo album yet.because back then before he join miltary he active as actor. and this doom dada his latest/last single from him (before join military). we hope he can comeback either with group or solo this year, and hope he will release more single/album this year. yes only GD and TOP who dare enough write that kind of lyrics. they are blueprint,manual, others just copy from what they did. GD is 1st idol who write/produce own song in kpop (not hiphop, epik high 1st did that for khiphop but in kpop, GD did that) before that ,any agency in kpop industry not allow their artist wrote and produce own song.and what you see now, many idol group write/produce own song after their agency allow it, and it happen after GD did it at first in kpop industry

I am a huge fan of TOP and Big Bang but calling him the original rapper of SK is so wrong and a discredit to the amazing rappers who came before him. Maybe they were referencing the (kinda) joke that his stage name T.O.P stands for The Original Pimp? Now what is true is that TOP and GD (also of Big Bang) popularized having rappers- and GOOD rappers at that- in idol groups. They definitely had a huge part in bringing hip hop to the mainstream but there was already a khip-hop community before they debuted. Tiger JK is widely considered to be the father of Korean Hip-Hop and he debuted in 1995. Big Bang debuted in 2006 for reference. Tiger JK is still actively promotes with the hiphop trio MFBTY (My Fans Better Than Yours) with singer, rapper (and his wife) Yoon Mirae, and rapper Bizzy.

Did you forget that he is the deep voiced rapper in Bigbang? Top is known for being quirky, weird, artistic and funny too. He is one of the best rappers in K-pop and he raps even faster than this when he does it live. I totally agree with you about not having to listen to the lyrics. I always watch an mv without lyrics so I can appreciate the music without their distraction. Then I can look at the lyrics later, but I'm glad you did check them out on this occasion. Anyway, no one has time to look up the lyrics of every song they hear. My other favourite song of Top's is "Turn It Up". You should also react to his song with G-Dragon called "Zutter".
