Did you forget that he is the deep voiced rapper in Bigbang? Top is known for being quirky, weird, artistic and funny too. He is one of the best rappers in K-pop and he raps even faster than this when he does it live. I totally agree with you about not having to listen to the lyrics. I always watch an mv without lyrics so I can appreciate the music without their distraction. Then I can look at the lyrics later, but I'm glad you did check them out on this occasion. Anyway, no one has time to look up the lyrics of every song they hear. My other favourite song of Top's is "Turn It Up". You should also react to his song with G-Dragon called "Zutter".

T.O.P is the 1st underground rapper in KPOP. Since his debut in 2006, many talented underground rappers started debuting as kpop idols (Block B's Zico, BTOB Minhyuk, BAP Younguk, Winner Mino etc). Before 2006, kpop idols were looked down by the general public and khiphop artists (that idols are "money-making-company-produced" products) instead of artists. T.O.P wanted to break that stigma. The huge success of BIGBANG, proved to the general public that IDOLS can make their own music and be this talented in rapping as TOP. So that's why he is referring to being ORIGINAL. Also TOP is a big fan of ART (he is a big art collector) so the whole music video is about DADAism - a movement in art based on deliberate irrationality and negation of traditional artistic values (that's why there are a lot of confusing things used for mv). As for originators of khip-hop are: Drunken Tiger (his is LEGEND), Dynamic Duo, Epik High, Yoon Mirae, Verbal Jint, Jinusean, 1TYIM and Leesang. and I think the 1st artist that introduced "RAP" in South Korean is Hyun Jin-young. But group Seo Taiji and Boys are the ones who added "hiphop" to kpop. Check them out - they are the ones who started "KPOP"!

Ah TOP... My ultimate bias. He is a member of BIGBANG. He has had a huge impact on the rapping in kpop over the years for sure. The first underground rapper turned into an idol turned into an actor turned into a true artist. All five members are legends as individuals and even more so as BIGBANG. I highly recommend getting to know all of their solo carees, you can see how versatile they actually are and that each one of them can shine solo. BUT AFTER HEARING WHAT YOU SAID I JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT THAT YG ENTERTAINMENT OR YG MYSIC VIDEOS IN GENERAL BACK IN THE DAYS DID NOT HAVE SUBTITLES PRECISELY BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU HAVE SAID. G-Dragon specifically has said it in one of his interviews that they want their MV’s to tell a story and have other people feel and understand their message just by what they are hearing and seeing. But since K-pop has become more popular overseas the subtitles became a need so that they are able to attract more fans. At the end of the day, YG ARTISTS ARE ARTISTS AND JUST A DIFFERENT BREED.

The interesting part is that there is a lot of symbolism in the video. There is a whole essay on what’s actually going on. The dada part comes from the art movement Dadaism. T.O.P here is dressed up as artist Salvador Dali. The video references a couple of his paintings. There’s also very obvious reference to the movie 2011: A space Odyssey. T.O.P himself is into art and is a big art collector. The chairs in the video are actually from his collection.

I'm not sure if you're gonna read this but you were reading the lyrics from Genius and often you have highlighted words ( like "Pinot Noir" "Basquiat" "Somelier", etc) and if you click on them in the same page you will get an explination (they tend to be acurate). T.O.P is known for his taste in arts and a lot of time in his songs he chooses to make a lot of mentions so many words would go over people's knowledge at first watch/listen. Also it has already been said but: T.O.P is a member of BigBang debuted (with them) 2006 but before that he was an underground rapper in Korea (probably 16-18yo), so when he says "the real one is here" he ain't lying. Back in 2013 he was talking about the upcoming rappers within Kpop but you can also talk about nowday rappers/kpop rappers.

This is one of my favorite MVs in kpop (ever!!) and it's a really under appreciated one because people think it's just a super wierd video. T.O.P. enjoys a lot of art so this MV is referencing a lot of the art movement called Dadaism (which also contributes to the title [he's a genius]) , he even has a reference to Salvador Dali. And it's just a well write song as well-- I'm always sad that T.O.P. doesnt have more songs out there but yeah a rare genius p.s. i almost forgot!!!!!!!!!!! also a reference to space oddyssey!!!!!!!! so good

I'm very late to this reaction and I see a lot of comments about how TOP is the OG rapper-in-boy-bands legend, etc. I don't know how many people have also mentioned that TOP is well known for being a big lover of art (he makes references to artists frequently) and leans into the weird. Dadaism was an avant-garde art movement that was all about challenging norms, defying classical classification of art and interpretation, etc., and I will always love the surrealist visual and audio elements to this MV for playing with the feel of that movement.
