This is the first part of a longer series of videos that I am taking to show the differences between certain species. In this video I show how to differentiate between Trichocereus pachanoi and Trichocereus bridgesii, also known as Echinopsis lageniformis. There will be more videos showing the differences and traits that make these species and I am just experimenting with the new camera that finally allows us to take longer videos.
During the making of this video I was injured by a cactus spine that hit my butt, but I pulled through like a champ.

Great educational video and showing differences of these columnars. At the end of the day we're often dealing with hybrids, not clones, and clear definitive ID'S get harder and harder. Still a fan though and just subscribed! Keep up the great videos.

Brother i have a question? I live in Arizona so if you had to say between Bridgesee, pachanoi, or other Trichoserus which would grow better in harsher sun? I wonder if i should put some in full desert sun and or some in afternoon shade?
@ArchangelMichaelHolySpirit
@ArchangelMichaelHolySpirit 3 жыл бұрын
Both should be fine just keep an eye on them they like 20- 25% shade. This is why in the wild you will find them growing on the bottom of mountains big hills because they get the shade

Hi mate, Trichocereus bridgesii is used to getting lots of heat in Bolivia. Pachanoi and Peruvianus need a bit more water and nutrients imo.

@@Cactusjerk thank you brother. So i have two areas in my back yard where one gets 70% full sun. The Bridgesii will land there and the others will get the 50/50. It gets super hot here in Arizona so i am a little worried about them gwtting sunburned. I plan on growing my seedlings in the 50/50 for a year or two before placing them. Thank you again.

Do all of the trichocereus species produce fruit when pollinated?
@Cactusjerk
@Cactusjerk 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I don't really know of a species that is unable to produce seeds/fruit. Otherwise they'd probably have a hard time not going extinct. There are a couple species that are self fertile and can even pollinate themselves, but most of them need pollen from another plant.
