Don't worry, you're not missing anything.This film really isn't worth seeing. There have been so many scandals involving men who abuse their power for sexual favours, for example, Weinstein. The director just thought making the abuser a lesbian woman would be more sensationalist and sell more tickets at the box office.

Her best performance today by a country mile. She was clearly robbed at the Oscars but they couldn’t give it to her for the third time I guess, plus they had to appeal to multiculturalism, as usual. I love Michelle Yeoh but she wasn’t even in the same stratosphere.

Cate didn’t even care and was actively rooting for Michelle Yeoh. The Oscar’s are a way to acknowledge someone’s talent in their field by their peers. Cate Blanchett had already been acknowledged twice before, so what would really be the point in awarding her again? Plus, she has no trouble finding work. Meanwhile Yeoh was being pressured to retire/was being offered less and less roles and was not taken seriously. The award is wholly symbolic and meant more going to Yeoh. If you want what was actually the best of the year, watch Critic’s Choice.

Yeoh was like 3 stratospheres above her. Most acting isn’t the best acting
@JT29501 Жыл бұрын
The acted scenes here are great obviously, but its quite off-putting how often she uses her baton hand (i.e. timekeeping hand) for big expressive gestures that confuse where the beat lies.. its such a basic error and takes me right out of the immersion. I wonder why nobody caught it, even with all those musicians there? Supposedly Bradley Cooper has been learning to conduct for six years to star in the new Bernstein biopic.. we shall see what that produces!
@rics1883 Жыл бұрын
I felt Bradley’s performance especially conducting too on the nose tbh. You could totally he was acting, there was little inhabiting the Leonard Bernstein. Although Carey Mulligan was incredible. She outshone Bradley.
@iangrimm11 ай бұрын
Totally agree on this. FWIW I thought Bradley did an incredible job as Bernstein, especially after watching some old Bernstein footage both in interview and as a conductor. He captured Bernstein the person - but also the act of conducting more realistically than seen in this clip.
@bobmatt517511 ай бұрын
I actually thought this scene was better. While her use of the conducting hand isn’t great, she is clearly directing the music. Cooper captured the raw energy of Bernstein but not much else imo. It would’ve been difficult to follow as a musician, was largely reacting to the music vs leading it, and it was unclear what he was going for.

I wanna see Cate Blanchett really conduct something. She is a little idiosyncratic, but aside from delivering selected lines in English when those to whom they are directed would likely be German speakers (maybe her German accent is meant to imply she is still speaking Deutsch), she is authentic enough to be scary. It would be funny if she spoke German to everybody else but switched to American-accented English with the doofus Yank soprano *ahem*.

Oscars aren't won they're campaigned and pandered for. Hollywood SAG and Oscars stroked all four A24 actors because of irrelevant narrative over ages of 50s and 60s, comebacks or lifetime achievement. Blanchett won 10 more awards than Michelle Yeoh all season, including Critics Choice and the UK Oscar equivalent British Academy BAFTA
