I was an elf extra in the prologue scenes (filmed on Mr Ruapehu) in New Zealand. That scene with all the orcs running down the hill into the elves that are starting ready with the swords? (2:52) - filmed in a car park that was for the ski field. It had snowed where they were supposed to shoot it so they shot it in the car park instead and cg'd it out. I'm about the 20th elf down the line lol.

I as only 16 so I thought movies like Gladiator and Lord Of The Rings were just normal films and there would be many more to follow. Never could have imagined this was the height of epic movies and given another 20 years a good new movie to watch in cinema would be almost impossible to encounter. I heard Gladiator II is on its way so I thought about what other IPs can they pillage. Why not a female lead Braveheart sequel? perhaps with women, black people and Asians to round out the cast. The original is so dated now showing medieval Scotland and England armies all as white males. And the title character should be a woman, but not like a normal woman from those times, this one should physically dominate all the men around her and make them all look pathetic. And she shouldnt get caught and killed at the end, she should kick the bad guys butt and save the day. Fingers crossed.

Galadriel (Voice-over): I amar prestar aen… The world has changed. Han mathon ne nen… I feel it in the water. Han mathon ne chae… I feel it the earth. A han noston ned gwilith… I smell it in the air. Much the once was is lost. For none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the elves, immortal wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the dwarf lord, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine nine rings were gifted to the race of men who above all else desire power. For within those was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived. For another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the dark lord Sauron forged in secret a master ring to control all others. And into this ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. One ring to rule them all. One by one, the free lands of Middle-Earth fell to the power of the ring. But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor, and on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth. Victory was near. But the power of the Ring could not be undone. It was in this moment, when all hope had faded, that Isildur, son of the King, took up his father's sword. Sauron, the enemy of the free-peoples of Middle-Earth, was defeated. The Ring passed to Isildur, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever. But the hearts of men are easily corrupted. And the Ring of Power has a will of its own. It betrayed Isildur… …to his death. And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend, legend became myth, and for two and a half thousand years, the Ring passed out of all knowledge. Until, when chance came, it ensnared a new bearer. My Precious. The Ring came to the creature Gollum, who took it deep into the tunnels of the Misty Mountains. And there, it consumed him. It came to me, my own, my love, my own, my precious! Gollum! The Ring brought to Gollum unnatural long life. For five hundred years it poisoned his mind. And in the gloom of Gollum's cave, it waited. Darkness crept back into the forest of the world. Rumor grew of a shadow in the east, whispers of a nameless fear, and the Ring of Power perceived its time had now come. It abandoned Gollum. But something happened then the Ring did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable. What's this? A Hobbit: Bilbo Baggins of the Shire. A ring! Lost! My precious is lost! For the time will soon come when Hobbits will shape the fortunes of all.

Imagine. You have an impossible task. You need to introduce LotR to an audience consisting of everything from die hard lore geeks to the casual viewer who has never heard of it. You must speak to all of them. I am a comms trainer and this is the most difficult scenario - the audience of extremes. So you open up, you NEVER contradict the deep lore, but hit only on some main points. You give the noviese something to learn from and the efficcinados something to agree with. This is writing in the higher schools. As a lifelong fan of the Professor I am not insulted AND my wife who's never heard of Mordor can still enjoy it. This is rare, I can't even mention a comparison.

I think they did that with saruman’s death scene as well which caused christopher lee to have a huge fall out with PJ. I personally wish they had the scouring of the shire, even if they had to make an extra 90 minute movie to make it a quadrilogy. The lotr trilogy couldve finished at aragorns coronation and then the next movie could pick up from there including the journey home and then the confrontation and battle with sharkey’s ruffians and ending with the final confrontation with saruman and the very last scene could be where the trilogy ended with frodo leaving for the undying lands

Man, imagine if Rings of Power had this quality. The Numenorean armour, the battles, the storytelling, it is just all so much better here and this is almost a century of a decade old. Edit: Sorry, wrote this as like 2am, meant century

The discipline the elves have here, the craftsmanship of the armor and the flow of martial prowess among the elves is not even remotely replicated in the rings of power. Its just not even close, the elves in that show fight like the men do, but the elves in Peter Jackson's LOTR fight like alien species that mastered all forms of martial combat.
@Bullet-Tooth-Tony-
@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- 8 күн бұрын
@Elmo914 Yeah the Army of the Last Alliance would have crushed Gothmogs legions that attacked Minas Tirith. The Elves had tens of thousands of men in this battle against Sauron compared to the tiny force that they sent to reinforce Theoden at Helms Deep. And this was basically Gondor in it's *prime* with the majority of it's units made up of elite troops of Numenorian blood. The equivalent of having Aragorns everywhere.

Absolutely brilliant! It would be so easy to make a hash of this opening. There is so much backstory to cover. They make it clearly; the pacing is first-rate, it is very economical and concise. Also, the cinematography, directing, editing, casting, acting (and how awesome was Galadriel's voice over?), etc. is all damn-near perfect!

I swear there is a version somewhere that I saw that had Isildur say "no" to Elrond, turn around, take a few steps , and then disappear as he apparently slipped on the ring for the first time. The scene endes with Elrond aghast and desperately trying to see isildur, but all he can see is Isildur's steps in the ashes on the ground as he continues to shuffle away.... I swear it exists!
