Eggsalad! Love this break down. Waaayyy too many folks just know 1-2 songs of theirs that got played to death. "Tanx" is such a joy. My brother had it and Bowie albums from 71-73 and got me started early on a good track. "The Slider" at #1 is fine by me. Such a great mix of songs and stylings. Check out "Rabbit Fighter: The Alternate Slider" and "Left Hand Luke: The Alternate Tanx" if you haven't already.

Our ranking is very similar. I almost put Tanx first. It’s continued to rise for me over the years. Electric Warrior is obviously very good but always thought it was slightly overrated as he hadn’t quite found his sound yet 1. The Slider 2. Tanx 3. Electric Warrior 4. Dandy In The Underworld 5. Futuristic Dragon 6. Bolans Zipgun 7. Zinc Alloy 8. T. Rex I haven’t heard the earlier albums, just the singles

Hi Vanessa you did a good job reviewing your fave T. rex albums, I love all of his output but I tend to like the early albums UNICORN. BEARD, T. REX, the excess of fame really screwed up his genius for his writing on his later records, completely lost the muse although there was some fantastic songs during that period as well.

I would put A Beard Of Stars at No 1. It strikes me that once Marc made it big, he became less interested in the quality of his albums - obsessing more with retaining his UK singles chart success. A formulaic feel becomes slightly more evident on The Slider, and a lot more so on Tanx. He really struggled thereafter. Electric Warrior is where it all really came together commercially, and also in terms of quality songs, that also had the mass appeal.

@@kevinlakeman5043 Marc's lyrical acumen on those Tyrannosaurus Rex albums *is* pure joy. No sophomore could come up with lines like he came up with. Not that anyone understood what he was singing at the time, LOL. But look up the lyric sheet for "Unicorn" and one's jaw should drop and staying hanging near the floor.
