Tárrega: Pavana (Tariq Harb, guitar)

Guitarist Tariq Harb performs this beautiful "Pavana" composed by Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909). I am using a guitar by Carlos Gomes Valentim, a "Hommage a Friederich" guitar that is absolutely marvellous! Thanks to the Grand Salon de Guitare for making this guitar available for recording.

Like it that you play it a bit more calmer and not so rush. Have trigger fingers which make me harder to play faster tempo pieces. Hence most of time I tend to slow down the tempo. May I know what guitar support you using? Looking for a reliable support so that won't hurt back in the future.

Well, there are not enough -issimos to express how beautifully you play. Passionate yet so skillfully attentive to the structural integrity of the composition. You make melody soar and all the accompanimental figures so interesting. For this non-guitarist and someone new to guitar music, can you please describe how the muted pizzicato-like effect is achieved (and what's it's called) beginning at 1:46? I really appreciate your kind and nuanced feedback, Ted! Thank you so much. That effect is in fact called pizzicato or "étouffée", where you mute the strings slightly at the bridge with the palm of the hand.

Maybe it’s the recording but the tone is brassy and hard, almost ponticello, in the upper registers. The staccato in the last iteration of the theme is precise but comes off as affected.
